I was working on Sept 14, 2023 when I got a knock at my door which was a door to door salesman for Aptive. I told him that I did not want to sign up. He came back 2 hours later and told me I could get service for $40 per treatment, and they treated on average about 6 times per year. I agreed because I had some problems with ants. Fast forward to now (May 2024) I have been charged $175 per treatment and they try to come out here once a month even if you specifically call to cancel appointments. I called to cancel service today, and was told that I had to pay $199 to cancel the service. I was never told that there would be a fee for canceling and they have done nothing to resolve any of the ongoing issues. Their services don't even work, I still have had problems with ants even after having 3 treatments last month. They rope you in to signing these contracts that they don't even explain correctly. So much false information and I'm stuck in it now. This is insanity. Someone needs to stop this company.Business Response

Aptive Pest Control mislead me .......Being charged an early cancellation fee of $199. Sales rep who came to my house misled me told me I could cancel at anytime no problem. Not only that, they make it very difficult to cancel and will only allow 1 rescheudule and it doesn't matter if you need service or not. They're going to get you for that monthly charge - I mean $169/month for spraying my front porch? RidiculousBusiness Response

Prior customer with **********************.. Complaint is over charges for over 2+ years, deducted directly from my bank account, in amounts of around $130 per month. No services were received during this period.I have visited the local Aptive office to no avail! They mentioned that this could be due to difficulties during the 2020 pandemic. Interestingly, I/they were not able to contact headquarters but the bank ACH withdrawals did cease.Over 3 year period ending April 2023, approximately $3000 was taken out of my credit union account.Please advise what additional information or action I should take at this time.Business Response

Initially, we had a door to door rep come here to talk about pest control services being rendered. We've never used any pest control service and I made it very clear I wanted to try it out and didn't want any service with a cancellation fee. The salesman assured me there wouldn't be any cancellation fees. He also gave me a promotion that was about $70 and said they would come out once every SEASON leading me to believe it would be $70 only 4 times a year. You can imagine my surprise when they showed up a few WEEKS later and expected $129 each time. The nice pest control rep let me know they do come out about every 6 weeks, not 4 times a year and that each treatment would be $129. Well, I of course asked to cancel and he let me know it would be $200! He then felt bad and called his home office to see if there was anything we could do because the sales rep lied. He found out the rep actually gave us an upgraded plan which is also more expensive! He told the rep on the phone that we were the THIRD family to tell him about this same salesman, so it was not a fluke incident at all. He also said that salesman left and moved to a different state! We spoke to multiple reps who all said we can't get the cancellation fee removed so we decided to use the service. Well, that ended up causing our pets to be plagued with fleas! The black widows in our yard weren't even affected by the chemicals at all either so it was a total waste of money and stress. Now they are calling us to either pay the cancellation fee or get the last 2 services done, which is more expensive than cancelling. They can't charge us right now because I lost my debit card and got a new one. We don't want it going to collections, especially because we were lied to!! We never would have tried it out if we knew there was a fee to cancel and they have door to door reps out here not being truthful to get their commissions.Business Response

On 3/30/24 an Aptive sales rep came to my door ringing multiple times causing my dogs to bark. I went out to ask him to leave with absolutely no intention of discussing anything about pest control with him. He quickly mentioned that since they were already in the neighborhood they could spray for $40. I agreed because that seemed like a good price for a treatment. He mentioned two things: 1) Someone would be out in a couple of weeks to respray since the initial treatment was sprayed when it was wet. No discussion of additional cost.2) If we needed someone to come back out we could call for up to a year. I assumed a cost would accompany that, but details were not discussed. Since I didn't expect to call after the initial service.Fast forward a couple of weeks and the followup happens, no issues, super happy. And then I see a charge on my account for $144.45. Honestly, at first I thought this was a mistake as this was a follow-up appointment. I email customer service to get it cleared up.They tell me me to login to my account to view my service contract, which made the hairs on the back of my neck raise since I never ****** one.I find that the rep ****** me up with a made up email and now I have a service contract that I have never seen until customer service sends it to me (I still cannot log into my account)So "We're in the neighborhood" turned into a one year contract with 6 required services or a $199 cancellation fee...I feel this is flat out fraud that relies on deception.Business Response

A salesman came to the door.Claimed the product was 100% safe for dogs to walk on after one hour.We signed the contract.The next day the tech came and also claimed one hour and the dogs could go outside on the lawn.We waited 4 hours to let dogs outside and within a few hours one dog became so sick we didn't know if he would survive. Aptive has no way to contact them to cancel their service. I wrote emails, I called all the phone numbers, I called the phone number agent gave me. My husband does not want to continue and it's in their contract we can cancel for free in 3 days. I have been calling non stop 2 days , nothing and no answer. Please help!Business Response

On 5/6/2024 my husband who is 71 answered the door to a young man that said he was from Aptive Environmental for pest service. My husband did not have his hearing aids and was on a new medication was taken advantage of by this company. The salesman is named **** and said that if he did this today he would take off 100. **** said that if he canceled the contract that he would be charged 100 My husband asked **** if it would damage the soffit because he just got it replaced , ( **** responded no) A technician came and my husband asked him if it would damage the soffit , the technician said no. The technician was here about 15 minutes and the soffit has spots all over it. I received an email from Aptive and was disappointed about the price and my husband didnt sign the contract , **** had put his name on it. When I called and talked to a supervisor she said that we had 3 days to cancel ( my husband was not told this) I am so disappointed in the way **** took advantage of a senior citizen who is on a fixed income , plus the fact now we have to clean up the mess.Business Response

Aptiv keeps soliciting my father for services, although we contacted the company last year to request that he NEVER be solicited again. My father has mild cognitive impairment. We canceled his contract with Aptiv last spring after it was discovered that he had a mouse, bat, and termite problem in his house. He spent a significant amount of money with Terminix to rectify this problem, and he's currently under contract with Terminix for termite monitoring. Despite canceling his Aptiv contract last spring, a salesperson solicited my father shortly afterward, and my father signed up with Aptiv again, even though he had a contract with Terminix. We called Aptiv at the time, canceled his contract AGAIN, and asked that a note be added to his record to not be solicited by Aptiv again. Well, my father sent me an email today saying that he signed up with Aptiv because a salesperson came to his door. This is completely unethical. Aptiv's door-to-door salespeople are extremely pushy and won't take "no" for an answer. Aptiv assured me last year that my father wouldn't be solicited again. The salesperson who solicited my father the other day also told him that he would be charged for canceling services with Aptiv. I spoke with a customer service representative at Aptiv today, and they told me to send an email requesting that they cancel his contract and never contact my father again. I don't trust that they will actually do this and honor his wishes. How can I ensure that Aptiv leaves my father alone? This is a horrible company that preys on vulnerable people.Business Response
