My son was a resident of The Varsity, College Park, MD and we will never rent from a Greystar property based exclusively on the behavior of the management toward their tenants.
The staff at The Varsity have been and continue to be unprofessional and rude to their customers. We have had multiple issues with the “professional” staff there. The student employees that sit at the front desk are nothing but accommodating and professional. Management should take a lesson from them. The behavior of staff was aggressive, intimidating, and unacceptable.
We had a year long issue with a water bill that was more than $400 for each tenant of the apartment. After multiple attempts to email and call, I had to tell the front desk that I was coming to the apartment complex to meet with the manager before I received a phone call back. Management responded by saying there must be a leak or a toilet running. We went back and forth between Conservice and management at the Varsity and no one could explain or take responsibility for this overcharge. It wasn’t until I tracked down emails from Greystar’s corporate personnel that we received any kind of response.
Word of mouth is a powerful thing – we will do our best to make sure others are aware of Greystar’s treatment of their customers.

I am a law student in Baton Rouge and I have never seen such egregious behavior by a lessor. I have sued Gray Star in the past for black mold in a previous unit that I rented from the same management company but my apartment flooded due to an issue with the washing machine and they let it sit there until I got back from Europe 2 weeks later. My apartment flooded again this week and they disassembled my AC unit that they never put back together and said it was fixed. My entire apartment flooded a few hours later and they never came back and closed out the maintenance requests as resolved. I’ve never met a property owner or lessor who so readily practices reckless negligence with no regard… I look forward to filing suit and holding these people accountable…

Mediocre apartment complex trying to pass as luxury.
      • Horrible noise insulation within the building. I could hear clearly a lot of sounds from neighbors, like flushing toilets, singing in the shower, singing and playing acoustic guitar, dogs barking. I could hear the furniture moving, items being placed on tables/counters, and of course talking. And worst of all, I could hear EVERY SINGLE STEP the upstairs neighbor took.
      • Poor windows/doors noise insulation from the outside as well. When the landscapers were working outside at 7 in the morning, it felt like they were right in my room.
      • The washer and dryer are made in 2007, based on the tag. The stove and fridge are made in 2021, but they are the most basic models. There is no ventilation system in the kitchen. The microwave fan sucks out the air and spits it back out from the vents above the microwave. There are no tubes or vents actually leading to the outside. The A/C unit is extremely loud when it turns on, startling at first. “Luxurious” is the last word I would use to describe these appliances.
      • In the period of two months, they had 3 fire alarm testing days; which were extremely inconvenient and disruptive.
      • In those same 2 months, they shut off water 3 times. On December 5, 2023, the water was shut off with no notice at all. Another time, they sent out letters about shutting off the water, but never actually did it.
      • Ora is charging utilities for common areas, like the outdoor area where the fan is always turned on, regardless of weather, day or night.
      • It is not a very peaceful neighborhood. My package got stolen from front door. People are constantly soliciting and leaving flyers at the door and cars.
I ended up moving out 2.5 months early; paying for this apartment and my new place, which cost thousands of dollars. It was absolutely worth not having to spend another night at Ora though.

This leasing office is saying theyre not accepting partial payment. They want the full amount for our rent. I have 2 other roommates and we all get paid at different times. The rent gets paid. Ofcourse having rent paid on time before the late fee is one thing, but to say you want the full amount is another. Everyone just send one person the rent and then someone pays is a bit much and we believe legally they dont have the right to do that. Its with property but its for Towne At ******************* in ********, **

They STEAL MONEY!They are charging me double of what it would have cost me to finish my lease. I agreed to pay the broken lease fee and the free month back and they would use my deposit towards the amount owed. The amount was $7600 and some change and two months later they have not fixed the balance. Went from $5k to $7k to $10k and now $17k and I paid the two month of my last **************************************************** $$9500. How is this legal? Especially if I lost my job and have a non compete in the STATE OF TEXAS for sales.

The new building Im in is dirty daily, the doors are always propped open, gates dont work, animal f**** everywhere, garbage can at dog park overflowing with bags of dog waste- its disgusting. The garbage valet often doesnt show up and we pay for it. I want out of my lease but they want to charge me too much.

I am writing to share my experience within the hopes of resolving ongoing issues before taking further action.

When I applied for an apartment, I secured a 12-month lease and received my offer letter on June 9, 2023, at 11:51 AM. A month later, we found a preferred unit (Unit 111) and reserved it. Isela informed us that the only change required was extending the lease to 13 months, ending on September 17, 2024, which we agreed to. We received our welcome letter on July 12, 2023, at 11:55 AM.

On July 15, I visited the office to inquire about my renewal statement. To my surprise, I discovered I was signed to a 15-month lease. I showed the assistant apartment manager the welcome letter, and she stated she needed to speak to her boss, Heather. After speaking with Heather, I was told there was nothing they could do.

Here are several reasons why I know the lease was supposed to be for 13 months:
The welcome letter, which I have attached, clearly states this information has the lease ending 9/17
My insurance is also set to end in September.
The welcome letter lists our rent as $2219, which is our current rent. Altering the lease term always changes the rent amount, which has not happened in my case, showing that was supposed to be my lease.
Additionally, I have documents and voicemails that support my claim.
Furthermore, I have overlooked other issues such as:
Not having AC for seven days during 80-degree weather.
Your team not answering emergency line phone calls for 24 hours.
A faulty stove that turned on the oven by itself, for which I did not even request electrical repairs.
Other things which I have documented with photo proof.

Simply put, I just want my original agreement honored. I requested a call from upper management, but I haven't heard back yet.

Greystar forced me to pay $4K more than I owed after I moved on the threat that that would bill me $20K and send me to collections. I provided ample evidence that the amount was not valid but the company refused to acknowledge my evidence. I paid the higher amount, and then had to personally complete due diligence to validate my statement about the amount owed. Greystar eventually acknowledged was right and they had over charged me. It has now been two months and I have zero resolution and have yet to receive my funds back. I have even reached out to the office of the **** only to be ghosted after they acknowledged me situation. Avoid this company at all costs.

Poor management company. I've been trying to communicate about this location owned by Greystar and it had been a nightmare. Communication is HORRIBLE. No help they do not care, not at all.

No stars if it would allow. Second time living in apartments with Greystar notable on the website. It was just a filthy and unkept as the last. They slapped paint on and raised rent $500. Carpets were not clean, and the vent was not new.Greystar needs to sell off and move on to allow another business with more ethics and knowledge to take over.
