In Aug 2023 a young man showed up on a scooter in my driveway, stated hes in neighborhood spraying homes for bugs, claiming theres too much ******ant mixed & hes willing to spray outside perimeter of house for a greatly reduced price. It would be a REGULAR spray. He further stated the names of 2 of my immediate neighbors whom he said had this service. I agreed to the spray treatment. I found out the following week that he boldly lied about my neighbors having any spray treatments. Neither had any service!!Instead of having regular treatments every 4 months, the fight was on. I was emailed every couple of weeks that I had to schedule an appointment & would be charged for PROFESSIONAL treatment at much higher price. The customer service team are beyond rude, condescending, & callous. Ive had to dispute charges every time, rescheduling each appointment. It is unreal to keep being insulted, told that Im just an old ******** better do as Im told. Ive been told that I signed a contract but I know that I wouldnt have signed anything for the extra money because Im a widow, living on a fixed ********* there any help to get away from a predatory guise of a business?? They claim I have another 10 months to have service. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I do have their emails & insults but dont know how to attach to this.Business Response

Requested rat-infestation treatment. Claimed they placed bait box, which was already present on property. Have complained numerous times - they sent out serviceman; who set a single trap - no return to check trap. They didn't catch anything; so I bought rat traps - caught 6 in 3 days. Have requested they correct this or cancel contract; I was promised a single free treatment and if still unsatisfied; they would cancel contract. Call back requesting cancellation - $200 contract buy out. Terrible business dealings - a scam. Needs investigation; sub-par pest control trapping customers with outrageous 2 year contract.Business Response

I was approached by a salesman who was riding around in my neighborhood while I was out working in my yard about doing bug removal/prevention for homes for $50. They stated that they were in the area and all the homes on my block were changing to their service because they were environmentally friendly and more effective than the service I already used. I agreed to the $50 bug removal, but did not realize I was actually being locked in to a 2 year contract which would cost me $139 a month or $199 to cancel the contract. The salesperson had an iPad and ran the transaction on my credit card. At no point was the $139 a month after the initial $50 service mentioned and no paperwork was give me at that time. He also told me that I could cancel at anytime, but failed to mention that it would cost $199 if I did cancel. Once the transaction for $50 was ran, I received a welcome email which also did not mention that this was a 2 year contract at $139 a month. They even had someone with a pickup in my block ready to do my first initial service (seemed a little strange but I thought maybe they worked as a team) The ENTIRE process felt like a dishonest scam. After a bunch of services and a whole lot of time trying to tell them over and over that we were getting an excessive amount of more spiders adn bugs than we ever did with our prior service they finally agreed to cancel our service for the additional $199.00 which they promptly charged me. There must be fine print somewhere stating this information but I have yet to find it. It is not easily accessible and unless you know to look for it you fall victim to this company. I feel very taken advantage of and lied to. They want another 8 more services out of meBusiness Response

We want out of a contract with no penalty. Our pest problem has only worsened with treatment. I had a representative show up at our house with no text or email confirmation. He stated he would do the outside at no charge due to miscommunication and send someone back for inside as we were leaving. No one came back. I assumed they had stopped coming. I got an email today stating they were coming for service. I contacted the company to close the account due to poor service and worsening issue with pests. I am not looking to pay 150 per treatment, or even free treatment with chemicals around my pet and child, that aren't working. She offered free service again in October, but I asked again to cancel because of the issues listed. She then stated I would have to pay 199 to get out of contract and to do so I needed to call from the phone number on the account (though they spoke to me the whole time and she said she saw my number on the account). At this point, I have left the 10/26 appointment (which is supposed to be free again), but want this service closed with no cancellation fee. I don't even care if they come 10/26/24. They offer a service that doesn't work.Business Response

Sales person came to my door in July 2024 to sign up for Aptiv pest control. He took my credit card # and said with the promotion that we had to have the service for 3 months if we didn't want to pay back the promotion price. We made payments for 4 months (July-October) and when I called today to cancel due to unsatisfaction with their service, they told me I had to pay $199 because it hadn't been 24 months that I had this service. I disagreed about the 24 months and told them the sales person said 3 months but she said what I signed said ************************************************************************************************ 1 thing vs. what I mistakenly didn't review and signed. I told her Aptiv did not have the permission to charge me $199 but she said if I don't allow it, then they can't cancel my service. I feel as though others in my community could be scammed by a business practice such as this, and have another neighbor who said they were told 3 months as well by the sales person who they signed up with.Business Response

A door to door ******** sold me on their program. He spoke so fast, i was not aware that it was a 2 year contact. He did say that they would treat my house that day and they would waive the initial fee. They were supposed to come into the house and treat the entire inside and outside. i told him we were having issues with roaches and mosquitos. The guy came and treated the outside only. He left us with a sticky ***** trap in our garage (1), a plastic mosquito trap on our rear porch (i honestly have no idea what this does besides take up space) and 1 bumble bee trap, which i never said we had bumble bee's. They billed me $164. They came 2 weeks later. i advised them that the roaches were worse. i was told that their spray 2 weeks before drove them out, but it should get better. It did not. i contacted them to drop the service. I was told that i would have to pay the $199 cancel fee, which was the initial treatment waived fee. i asked what was done for this fee since i still paid $164 for the treatment that day. I was told it was their comprehensive inside treatment, pulling out the refridgerator, stove, dishwasher, etc. i told them that nobody even came in the house, but they would still not waive this fee. They provided an additional treatment a week later to try to resolve the bug issue. Soon thereafter, i had 3 coachroaches in my house, in the same location at the same time. I took photos of these and posted it to them online. No contact. I'm again trying to cancel and again they are trying to charge me $199.Business Response

August 5, 2024 we started what the salesman called, "an Agreement, it is NOT a contract" with an Aptive Sales *** that came to our yard while we worked outside. He described the services his company would provide and continued telling us that if we were not satisfied with their performance or services, we were free to cancel the Agreement. He also said, "if you even dream about voles in your yard, call and we will be back free of charge until the next scheduled treatment." They did not provide the services described to us for getting rid of the voles in our yard. The technician told me that they "didn't even carry shovels with them." and "also we do not use any in ground bait." The opposite of what the salesman told us. I called to cancel the service as even the technician stated, " It seems you were sold something we clearly cannot provide, and you do not want. We will try using above ground bait and a trap this visit. If you are not satisfied, call and tell the company you want to cancel the service as it's not what you want or what we provide." We waited a few weeks to see if there was a difference. There was none. I agreed and called. The customer service ***** was not willing to work with us. They clearly hear similar stories from other customers. I looked up the reviews after the fact to see several dissatisfied customers. They stated they felt taken advantage of as well. After trying to cancel with them yesterday on the phone and my husband trying online a few days earlier, Aptive had someone come to our property today and they proceeded to do a spray treatment without our permission and did not address the vole issue either as we have cameras and know he did not go into the back yard where the trap is located. Then they immediately charged my credit card for the 3rd treatment that was neither wanted or needed. They have very shady business practices and pray on people and will not work with you. Please help get the agreement cancelled and a refund for today.Business Response

On the date of August 10th, 2024, a young man named ***** ****** came to my door offering a discounted pest control service of $50 because they were already in the neighborhood. He said he would spray later that day, then come back two more times to make sure he got it all. After he said he would come back, I made sure to ask if it was really just a one-time $50 payment. He verbally confirmed that it was, indeed, one time. Over the next two months, I received texts from Aptive about them coming to spray again. I was under the impression this was the two times ***** ****** mentioned on August 10th. On October 9th, Aptive attempted to charge my card. I only realized this because I got an email saying the payment could not be processed (I had recently just changed my debit card). This led me to contact Aptive. It turns out I was also charged $150 in September. I had apparently signed up for a "contract" of 12 months when signing the paperwork ***** ****** said was for the one-time payment. This was a fraudulent misrepresentation of the agreement that I had signed, and although Aptive agreed to cancel my account, they refused to refund me for the $150 they charged me in September.***** ****** and Aptive must be held accountable, considering there is a high probability mislead and took advantage of my neighbors as well.Business Response

Complaint: 22437701I am rejecting this wholeheartedly. Here was their response:
"Aptive has reviewed your complaint and apologizes for any inconvenience we may have caused. Aptive sends a copy of the Service Agreement including the terms to the customer upon signing. ******************** has confirmed the email address your Agreement was emailed to is the one you've used on your BBB complaint. Additionally, Aptive sends notifications to its customers when an appointment is scheduled via email/text/call typically 3-5 days before the appointment date. There is no indication before the service on September 8th or October 9th that the services were not wanted or that a discrepancy occurred when signing the Agreement.
Nevertheless, Aptive has agreed to waive the early termination fee and balance of $150 and has closed your account. ******************** will not issue a refund for a service that was provided. There is no further obligation to Aptive."The early termination fee and balance were waived as agreed, but I am still seeking a refund for the misleading $150 service charge. The response I received fails to acknowledge any responsibility for the deceptive practices used by their sales representatives. A quick look at this BBB page clearly shows this pattern is intentional.
The companys approach relies on high-pressure door-to-door tactics, where salespeople offer a "limited-time deal," urging customers to sign immediately to avoid missing out. This method leverages urgency and social pressure, discouraging customers from reading the contract thoroughly or checking reviews for fear of appearing rude or distrustful. This practice effectively hides discrepancies between the contract and what the salesperson promised, allowing the company to profit despite widespread customer dissatisfaction.
Further adding to the manipulation, follow-up emails come from a "paralegal" who, based on their LinkedIn profile, lacks legal certification or college education. The title "paralegal" often brings to mind legal expertise, creating an impression of authority that ****** customers from questioning the legitimacy of the offer or considering legal action. This calculated use of a legally suggestive title seems intended to dissuade customers from pursuing rightful complaints, further entrenching the company's exploitative business model.
Sincerely,
****** BataBusiness Response
