I am writing to file a formal complaint against Momentum Solar regarding their failure to honor a promised service included in my solar panel purchase agreement. In May of 2019, when I purchased solar panels from Momentum Solar, I was explicitly assured that I would receive a one time free removal, storage, and reinstallation services as needed. This commitment was a significant factor in my decision to choose Momentum Solar as my solar energy needs. Now, in May of 2024, when I reached out to utilize this service, I was shocked to learn that Momentum Solar is demanding $4,900 for these services. Additionally, they are claiming that I need to present a coupon from 2019 to qualify for the promised one time free service, which was never provided to me at the time of purchase. This situation is deeply concerning and constitutes a breech of the agreement made between Momentum Solar and myself. I simply request that Momentum Solar honor the services promised to me at no additional cost. I have attempted to resolve this matter directly with Momentum Solar, they offered me a small discount of $400 possibly due to me calling multiple time to understand why they wont honor the promise. I kindly request your assistance in facilitating a resolution to this issue and ensuring that Momentum Solar upholds their commitments to customers like myself. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt intervention and a fair resolution.

We purchased solar panels from Momentum Solar in February 2019 while they were offering a promotion of a free one time removal, storage, and reinstall. This was pivotal in our decision because our roof was older and we knew we would have to replace it soon. Now 5 years later, we are getting a roof replacement and are told that they are not contractually obligated unless we have a paper coupon. We would not have paid $25k for solar panels with a 20 year lifetime if we knew we were going to have to pay another $6k in such a short time. This seems like a clear violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

I have had my system turned on for 10+ days now it has not worked at all. All produced energy gets run off into the home. I called enphase first to address the issue and they determined that it was the installers fault, literal crossed wires. So I called Momentum and explained exactly what the Enphase tech had told me and the Mom. Rep laughed at me and said that I didnt have that equipment. She forwarded it on nonetheless. This was Tuesday night. 4 days after commission. I called Wed. morning and got transferred to the scheduling office and he told me that he scheduled it for the FOLLOWING Wednesday. I told him that was not acceptable as I always had to conform to their scheduling needs and they are refusing to adhere to mine. He told he would call me back. He did not. I called two more times on Wednesday and got no further. Called on Thursday to speak to his manager but no one could find out who that was. All I could speak to were level 1 guest assistance. Each time the person is telling me they would call me back. No one has yet to call me. I had explained to them that I am paying the solar bill AND electric bill as these days pass with no resolution. The express regret but did nothing to advance the issue. I called again on Friday to press the urgency of the matter but all I was told, yet again, was that someone would be out in 7 days time. By the time they do come out and address the issue it will be 12 days since they turned it on. Thats 12 days overlapping bills. I asked the Mom. Rep if they could issue another payment on my behalf to the bank holding the loan but was told they couldnt do that until the situation was resolved and that they were found to be at fault. Also that someone else would have to determine that. At this point I have not be able to find or speak with anyone higher than the bottom employee who answers the phones. I am in disbelief at their lack of speed and concern for their customers after they have gotten their money from the bank.

So far Im happy with my system and most of my transactions with the company personnel, however, as a business, they rush to install the system and that allows them to be paid and starts the time for you as the customer to start your loan. Then the waiting for them to finish. It took 4 months from start to finish and in that time I had to make 2 loan payments and pay for all of my electricity. When I asked them to reimburse me for the 2 loan payments they refused stating co policy even though they had indicated to me that they would pay for all payments after the 1st one that the system was inactive. The only reason it is on now is that I was able to contact someone who sent me the startup instructions and got the ok from them to start it up myself.

We were pursued to consider solar. Even though we should have really come to this website 1st. we had an inspection done of our roof by momentum supposedly that our roof was good & it took them several months to get panels on our roof & activated. September/october is when the solar panels were finally put on our ********* was ******* before we started to actually have active energy. We received a letter from our home owners insurance in *******, Stating that our roof was not good. We told our homeowners insurance that we had an inspection done just a few months prior with the solar panel company. Inspection from momentum stated roof was good & asked if we could give that to them, they wanted to do their own inspection, we had to pay for their own inspection, inspection stated our roof was not good & that we had to have replace our roof otherwise We would not be renewed FOR INSURANCE ON OUR HOME. We have been trying to get ahold of momentum for months to get the solar panels removed so we can replace our roof we have to have a new ********* can't go without insurance even though it does NOT make sense that inspections few months apart would not match. I finally got someone to call me back to get the solar panels removed so that we could get a new *********** said it would be 7200k. We were told by ******* the sales person that came to our house & did all of the paperwork with us that at any time in the future If our roof needs to be replaced the panels would be removed & stored free of charge as they are a ************ want to protect their product. We have to pay 20k for a new roof there is no way that we can pay 7200k to have these panels removed. It has been so sad & stressful trying to deal with this company. Now that we actually need their help & we feel very scammed & are in such a terrible position because we don't have the money to have these panels removed & we absolutely have to get a new roof & have insurance on our home.

A solar system was installed at my home by Momentum Solar in 2021 including solar panels on the roof of the home. I have recently had a roof leak, which I found out when the water stain appeared on my ceiling. The location of the stain appeared to be immediately below the solar panels. Further investigation by me has uncovered that when the solar panels were installed the plywood under the shingles was damaged. This has now caused the leak.

I called the Momentum Customer Service line on 4/1/24, 4/3/24, 4/5/24 and again on 4/8/24. At this time I have not received a call for a roof repair appointment or a call from a Customer Service Manager as requested. I am currently taking steps to minimize damage but this requires me, a 71 year old veteran, to climb to the attic and make my way to the leak by walking on roof joists in order to place a bucket under the leak.

I am rejecting this response because:

Momentum Solar contacted me last week to let me know of their plan.  I have not yet received any more contact.  Momentum Solar does not appear to have any sense of energy.  We have significant rainfall in Houston and our damage is likely mounting.

This damage was initially reported on April 1st.  The only way we get Customers Service to take action is to file a complaint with BBB.  This is the second time going through the BBB process.

I had a disappointing experience with Momentum Solar and want to share my frustrations. We moved into our new home in December 2022, and in March 2023, a salesperson from Momentum Solar approached us, pitching solar panels to cut our monthly costs to zero. They pressured us into signing a contract, promising that it would pay off in 25 years and make us our own electricity provider for life. The proposed 9.49 kW system was based on a two-month usage analysis. After a two-month installation and inspection process, our home was energized in April 2023. However, the reality has been far from what was promised.I had our electric company audit our home, and it turns out we actually need a ***** kW system to break even and eliminate our electricity bill. Currently, I am paying $162 per month to ****************** and an average of $130 to the electric company, which is more than what I was paying before.I am disappointed with Momentum Solar's misleading sales tactics and failure to deliver on their promises. I request that they either provide a larger system to meet our energy needs or cancel the contract without any additional cost to **** hope Momentum Solar takes this complaint seriously and resolves the issues promptly. It is crucial for companies to uphold their promises and prioritize customer satisfaction.

      Complaint: 21543153

I am rejecting this response because of denying my claims and the accusations made against me. I would like to address each point raised in your response and provide further details to support my position.

Firstly, I strongly dispute your statement that the sales representative did not make false claims about paying zero dollars to the electric company and receiving a check for excess energy sent to the grid. During the sales process, the representative explicitly stated that I would not have to pay anything to the electric company and that I would receive a check for any excess energy produced by the solar system at the end of the year. I have witnesses who can attest to these promises.

Secondly, it is unfair for you to accuse me of using more power than the panels produce. It was your company that suggested the solar system based on only one month's usage. I trusted your expertise and believed that the system would be sufficient for my energy needs. If the system is capped and cannot be increased due to limited roof space, it is a result of your company's recommendation, not my excessive energy usage.

Considering the limitations of the system, I request that Momentum Solar reimburse the cost to the electric company until the contract is completed. As a customer, I should not bear the financial burden of a system that cannot meet my energy needs as originally promised. I believe it is only fair that your company takes responsibility for any additional expenses incurred due to the limitations of the system.

If we are unable to resolve this matter directly, I will not hesitate to escalate my complaint to the appropriate consumer protection agencies and local business bureaus. I believe that a fair and unbiased assessment of the situation will support my claims.

I urge you to reconsider your response and take my concerns seriously. It is essential for Momentum Solar to uphold its reputation for transparency, honesty, and accountability. I look forward to hearing from you soon and working towards a fair resolution.

      Regards,
      AG

Momentum Solar designs a customer's system based on historic usage and electricity needs at time of sale.  We designed ************** system to accomplish this with the goal to eliminate the customer's reliance on electricity from the utility or to come as close as possible to achieving this. In reviewing ************** account, we have identified that he has increased his consumption of electricity since the time that we met with him. The system we constructed can produce only what it is designed to produce; it cannot adapt to increased energy consumption.

      Complaint: 21543153

I am rejecting this response because the company failed to estimate future needs and misled me into opting for a design that they are trying to sell.

In light of these circumstances, I have taken the initiative to report Momentum Solar's malpractice to the relevant authorities. I have reached out to the ****************** of ******** and Professional Regulation, the ************************* and the Office of the Attorney General to bring attention to the misleading practices and failure to address customer needs exhibited by Momentum Solar.

It is my hope that by reporting these issues to the appropriate authorities, I can help prevent others from falling victim to the same misleading practices and ensure that Momentum Solar is held accountable for their actions. I believe that customers deserve transparency, honesty, and a fair deal when investing in solar energy.

In conclusion, the failure of Momentum Solar to estimate and address my future needs, as well as their misleading promises of being free from paying the electric company, have led me to reject their services. I will continue to pursue a resolution to this matter through the proper channels and advocate for fair treatment for all customers.

      Business Response

************ was newly into his home and with a limited historical perspective on his own electricity usage, and we designed a system that accounted for that limited history and **************** stated anticipated increased consumption. We therefore estimated within a reasonable approximation of the customer's anticipated increased electrical usage, and *********** agreed to purchase a system of that size. According to ************** recent utility bills, it is evident that he is using even more electricity than he or Momentum Solar could have estimated at the time of purchase. It would be helpful to see a full one-year comparison of his electrical bills from May 2023 to May 2024 to be able to more fully evaluate ************** electricity consumption. We will continue to communicate with this customer about this issue and continue to explore the prospect of any solution.
