On April 20, 2024, I agreed to get solar panels on my 4th house with momentum solar. The property address is ** ****** ******, ****** ******, ** *****.
They requested permits with the city to get the solar panels installed.
However, on May 24, 2024, after all the permits have been approved by the city. They claim they don’t install solar panels on roofs with 2 layer of shingle. However, I already have 2 other houses that have 2 layer of shingles and momentum solar had no problem installing the solar panels on them.
A week later they call me back to tell me 2 layer of shingle isn’t an issue anymore so they want to continue the project. A few hour later they call me to tell me they don’t work with property that is own by LLC. I told them in the beginning that this property is own by my LLC.
Since they cancel the project. I requested that they cancel all the permits with the city so that ****** can request for new permits and do the project.
It has been over a month and Momentum Solar still have not cancel the permits correctly. They only withdrawal themself from the permit and left the permit open. So momentum withdraw themselves from the project which is good for them. But they left the permit open so that ****** can’t request for new permits?
I have contacted multiple people in momentum solar to fix this issue and no one has done this correctly.
This just pathetic for a company to give me the wrong information every step of the way and no one knows what they are doing. So please withdraw the building department permit and electrical permit completely so ****** can request for new permits to start my project.
I am a consumer that have 3 different solar project with momentum solar so please fix this pathetic issue. It is just sad that I have to go to the BBB to get this issue fix. And also figure out a way to compensate me for wasting my time.Business Response

Momentum Solar has been in contact with the homeowner. The homeowner has been advised that Momentum withdrew our portion of the permit on July 11, 2024. We have also provided the homeowner with instructions on how to also withdraw the permit on his portal or his new solar company has the option to supersede the permit to continue their solar process. The homeowner was also provided this information via email.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:Momentum only withdraw themselves from the permit but didn't withdraw the permit completely so my new solar company can't submit for new permits. ****** can't supersede momentum's DOB permit and definitely can't supersede electrical permits.
As of today momentum still haven't fix the issue completely. This is wasting my time and money. And momentum still haven't mention how they can compensate me for wasting my time.

I am rejecting this response because:Just like Momentum Solar stated…the issue isn’t resolve. I lost 3 month of where I can generate electric at 14 cent kWh if momentum solar didn’t submit these permit without checking to see if they can actually install panel on my roof. I am still looking for momentum solar to withdraw these permit completely and compensate me for losing 3 month of solar.

On 6/26/2024 I met with a sales representative *********************** *************************** from Momentum solar to discuss solar panels for my house. He asked me to email him a confidential copy of my electric bill to him to prepare a quote. He sent it to someone who prepared the quote while he provided background information about Momentum Solar. During the following hour he provided verbal information about the company and their process. He then reviewed the quote on a small tablet and verbally explained a lot of the details about warrantees and equipment that would be used. The quote was for $68K. He called someone he called his boss who offered a 1-time $12K discount if I signed that night. I told him I needed to review the quote in detail before spending that kind of money, he said he would send me the quote. I asked him to send it right then and there so I could print it but he said he couldn't send it from his device. I found this strange since he obviously received it over the internet. He promised he would send it later.I then followed him out to his car where he said he had business cards, but he didn't have any business card and his car was an un-marked private car. I became suspicious that he's using a GMAIL account, not a business account, he doesn't have business cards and doesn't drive a company vehicle. After waiting 2 days, I looked up the Momentum phone number online and called their customer service team, I spoke to *********************** ************* *********************************** After explaining the situation, ****** said the only way I could get a printed copy of the quote was to accept another high-pressure sales call at my house. I told him I already spent over an hour with his salesperson and I was promised a copy of the quote. He said he could not email or standard mail me the quote. Please contact Momentum Solar and request they send my promised quote.Business Response

To Whom it may concern,I'm selling my home and was in contract twice but lost both deals. I have a 56 panel system done by Momentum and it has caused people to back out.The *****************'s are telling them that a re-roof will be needed in under 3 years. The cost to remove and replace will cost $16-$18.000 plus the cost of the roof. The kicker is that ONLY YOU can do it or it will void the warranty. The one time R&R warranty is not worth the paper it's written on if I can't Transfer it!!So every time the ***************** dictates you need a new roof it's going to cost approximately $32,500.00. That's Insane!!!!Based upon my math, solar, actually over a period of time, costs way more than having just a regular power bill.Average bill is about $300 a month. That makes 10 years $36,000. So why bother with solar? Hopefully I will be able to sell my home. 65K right out the window. I'll never do this again! With owning the entire system out right, I should be able to do what I want, when I want. I should not be held captive by Momentum. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before the population figures this out.Nobody has reached out at all.**********Business Response

I was told that Momentum Solar would produce power equal to or more than my usage every month, so the sales lady said and promised. "If you have ANY problem, we will be right on it". I knew I had to wait for the panels to load (so to speak) that would be **** ****** My electric bill has risen every month, I have been complaining to Momentum every month since March. "Your panels are all working properly". My electric bill for **** is $96.22. I have recommended to Momentum to add more panels. They said, "You have to wait a year before we can make any changes. Then pay my electric bill until the year is out. By the way nowhere in my contract talks about my problem (waiting a year). Since the middle of ****, I have called frequently and keep getting the same answer. "We are unable to transfer you or give you engineering number". My cost of the panels is $12,757.00 plus 4.99% interest. Please help. I would love to discuss this with all or any news media, a good kick in their a** won't hurt.Business Response

I want Solar Momentum to cancel my contact and fix my two bathrooms which damaged due to solar Momentum replacing my roof and rain flooded. I was informed by Solar Momentum that i was filling out an application for a government program run by solar. After my eligibility was confirmed i was also i informed that my roof needed replacing and that also included with the program. After the solar installed, It was then I learned that Momentum took my information and got a loan without informing me. I asked to cancel and removed the solar. They spend time distracting me; then the rain came flooded two of my bathroom that cause damage. I texted solar and called momentum informing that i want all the process to discontinue until I get to the bottom of how i get the loan and the damage to my bathrooms fix. I asked them to cancel the process; however solar Momentum pay no attention to my concern but continue with the process.Business Response

We have previously declined sells from this company and since we live in a new constructed neighborhood I've put up a big, and clear no soliciting sign on my door but I still get knocks from Momentum sellers. Teach your employees to first read for any signs before approaching the door. This has disturbed my infant's peace and is a big inconvenience to me since I work from my home. Dishonestly conducted a roof inspection/assessment for solar panels on our home we had lived in for three years. They told us our roof was in great shape for a 25 year solar contract. Day of install the entire house was vibrating and I witnessed workers DRAGGING panels across my roof. I had to go outside with the wet dry vac and vacuum up an absurd amount of shingle granules. After install I had cracks in Sheetrock and nail pops, especially in an upstairs bedroom. The nail pops have exacerbated over the year following the install. My upstairs bedroom has also taken on a mildew odor. I called momentum to come look and was being given a run around. While waiting for their cooperation I contacted 5 different roofers/inspectors. One even pulled permits from when the prior owners installed the roof. Apparently my roof is 17 years old. It is a double shingle roof. The top layer of shingles was put on 17 years ago and I was told the bottom layer was not great. All the professionals I had here agreed that panels on a double shingle roof is too heavy for my home that was built in the 1950s. Not only is the weight too much, the roof is old. Once I received this information I called a multitude of other solar companies pretending to be an interested potential customer and stated I had a double shingle roof on the older side and was that feasible for solar; all other solar companies said it is recommended that I replace the roof first due to excessive weight. You only get a customer service call center calling momentum. I did have a customer service manager call me last week and she has been responding to my emails, its been a few days and she stated that she has yet to receive a response from roofing or someone who can help with a concern like this. I have been pursuing this issue with momentum since early May and we are now in late June.Business Response

Momentum Solar has been in contact with the homeowner. Momentum has come to an agreement with Mr. ***** *****************,and they have agreed that Momentum Solar will remove and replace 11 squares of the roof, reinstall the solar panels, and repair the interior sheetrock.Customer Answer

Complaint: 21878213
I am rejecting this response because:
I don't understand what this "11 squares" of roof means. I was told they would remove solar, replace my roof, and reinstall panels, as well as interior sheetrock repair. They sent me a "release" Friday. The release states 11 squares as opposed to what was said to me. We have 23 panels.Additionally the release said I release them of their responsibility pursuant to any damage, whether that damage is already known or unknown at this point. I specifically asked my point of contact with momentum. What would happen if they ripped my roof off and they found that there were structural components that were cracked and broken or if there is mold from water seepage because I do smell mildew. I was told they would never leave my roof damaged in that way. As per the release they want me to sign they would. I actually don't even understand why they need a release. When the contract that I signed with *** said that I am covered for 5 years for any damages related to their install. Now I have a problem related to their dishonesty and the install and they want me to sign a release to do what they have already contractually agreed to.
Furthermore, their release also has verbiage in it that states if they s**** up my house and have damages related to their replacement of my roof and reinstallation of the solar panels. They are also released from any claims pursuant to that. So I could have these guys who are already liars to me. Come and put new stuff on my roof and if they completely destroy my house they're not responsible. Nice try momentum. I reject this response. You're still sneaky.

Complaint: 21878213
I am rejecting this response because:
No agreement has been signed. Release drafted has language highly unfavorable to consumer. There was already a contract in place to repair damages due to install for 5 years.Ive been pursuing this problem since April. We are mid July. Nothing can move forward without me agreeing to waive all claims starting since "the beginning of time". I was trying to hold off the rejection of their response and have been calling momentum daily to no avail.
I will not sign paperwork negating my rights. I have a right to repairs that entirely remediate the damages caused at my home by their fraud and misrepresentation during the inspection.
Yes, we verbally agreed on repairs. The required release to initiate those repairs limits the repair scope. Example being possible mold from months of water intrusion and/or possible cracks/damage to structural supports on the roof due to overloading on a roof in poor condition.
This damage going unrepaired is a safety and health hazard.

Complaint: 21878213
I am rejecting this response because:The response provided from momentum is less than truthful.
They came to my home without permits. They then proceeded to look in the crawl space; not near where I am alleging water intrusion because where I am alleging water intrusion can not be seen without ripping sheetrock down. They falsely claimed water pipes were leaking. No water pipes exist in the crawl space, nor were any pipes leaking. There were a few drops of "flux" from whenever the heating pipes were soddered- not water. The other pipe they claimed was leaking was not a water pipe either, it was a vent pipe. The vent pipe was also checked by a licensed pipe fitter welder and although it glistens, it is not wet, it is not leaking, and is not a water pipe.
To add insult to injury they were recording and photographing me and my home without my consent. I then asked them to leave because I did not feel safe and felt their intentions nefarious. They would not leave, I called the police. While waiting for law enforcement my husband yelled over the ring doorbell. Momentum's employee then said he was going to sue us personally.
The borough building department came to my home as well and confirmed there were no leaking water pipes, confirmed they can't check for wet insulation in finished attic space without tearing down sheetrock, and he confirmed that momentum never secured permits for the work they were alleging they came to my home to complete. The building inspector said all of the aforementioned directly to the momentum employees.
