Earlier this year, my account was targeted by a local reviewer and I was suspended. The actions of the reviewer were reviewed by Nextdoor and it was confirmed that his behavior did not align with Nextdoor policy and my account was reinstated. It was also confirmed that he is not alone in that behavior, but he is certainly the leader of it. I am now 1 of 4 people that he has targeted to get fully removed from Nextdoor. Aside from his behavior as a biased reviewer, he also manipulates his posts so that they harass individuals while appearing innocent. Further confirming his behavior of using this protected role as a Moderator / Lead as a means to harass, he recently filed a false police report against me. My escalation of his behavior on ND was cited as a stalking, however the record will show that the case was quickly thrown out as it was without merit or evidence. Nextdoor has already confirmed that this persons behavior does not align with your polices, however you continue to allow him to have access as a user, reviewer, and Lead. Your protection of this individual has now lead to false criminal reports. His conduct has now stripped me of access to Nextdoor and yet I confirmed earlier today that nothing for him has changed. A multi week suspension of his account isnt going to change behaviors that he has perfected over the last 10 years. I am requesting four things:1. My account be instantly reinstated, or a date of reactivation be set for the future.2. If you continue to refuse the first request, you will provide a clear, heavily documented rationale as to why. This should include any and all examples that could be challenged in a court of law.3. **** ******** have his privileges as a NextDoor reviewer / Lead removed. Youve already confirmed that he did not align with your guidelines on multiple occasions and it is clear that that can be used as rationale.4. A clear, evidence backed response to each of the items above regardless of what you choose.

I am rejecting this response because it is clearly not a response. The business was asked to respond to 4 clear items and chose to briefly reference one and ignore the other three. This demonstrates a clear disregard for compliance and reputational risk.

A short time ago, maybe a month at most, I have been unable to open any posts or submit comments to Nextdoor.com. I still receive their notification emails, but I can't respond to them. I sent a customer service request to them to find out what was wrong. I also asked if they had recently upgraded any of their ads software which requires new software on my part. They did not answer any of my questions. The **** ***, just said I need to upgrade my computer. I see no reason to spend my money to keep up with them. I want to unsubscribe so I do not receive any more emails from them. I cannot do so as their softwware does not work correctly any more. They have been unresposive to my requests for answers and I do not want to waste my computer sp[ace or time with their less than useful postings. I want to unsubscribe and be taken off of their email lists.

The agent let the neighbor know that they might want to try a different kind of browser. Based on the information they sent us, there was nothing that we could see that was an issue for the website to not work for them. If that doesn't work, we can deactivate the neighbor's account if they wish.

I am rejecting this response because:

In my complaint I clearly stated I wanted to be unsubscribed from their extremely unsatisfactory service.  Why do they seem to question that in their response??   Get it done!!  They again are trying to deny that the original issue stems from the business changing their performance software.  Thats Ok if they want to deny that.  I don't care.  I DO NOT want another email from them in any form!  I will file a stronger complaint with the ** if they continue to clog my email box with notices, updates, and messages as I will consider this a form of harrassment.  When I am taken off of their email address files and receive NOT ONE MORE email from them, I will consider this satisfactorily closed.

    Sincerely,

I posted on May 8, 2025 on the main page of the Nextdoor App to alert my neighbors of my concerns with the illegal activity of a neighbor, who brutally executed my dog on my property with a shot between the eyes and a shot to the abdomen. The individual also shot and seriously injured my other dog, who did survive the incident. Upon further investigation, I found that the individual has a criminal record including convictions on gun charges. Unfortunately, the responding officer did not even run his license, so we will never know if he was licensed to carry the murder weapon. It seems to me that he should be on probation from the previous charges and not be eligible to carry and discharge guns. It is illegal to recklessly discharge firearms in a residential area within City Limits (within feet of sleeping children). After experiencing such a devastating, senseless incident, I did feel that it was appropriate to share my experience with my neighbors for their safety, and that is absolutely my right under the first amendment. Nextdoor banned me from their app for my post without sending any sort of correspondence. Recently, I discovered that I could log in again, and I did finally receive a notice that my post had been removed. I submitted a response to them, informing them that it was within my constitutional rights to post my experiences and caution my fellow neighbors (within the last couple days). Today, I see that they have disabled my account. I do not have a problem with not using the app because I refuse to support a corrupt company that infringes upon its users constitutional freedoms. They claimed it was Public Shaming. However, how can they claim to have genuine intentions when they refuse to consider the value of the safety of their users. Nobody was forcing readers attention to my post, but I am willing to bet that my neighbors would like to have that information. They are hiding an individuals deliberate dangerous behavior to not hurt feelings.

The neighbor's post violated the Nextdoor Guidelines. The neighbor was only suspended for 3 days and has able to rejoin since.

I requested that ********, which operates a social media platform of the same name, delete my account and all associated information. They refused, citing that they need to retain my information "for reasons that may include maintaining the security and integrity of our platform" and "exercising or defending legal claims". Since nothing I ever posted could possibly make their platform insecure, and there are no legal claims resulting from anything I posted, it is clear that these reasons are invalid. If granted, it would give Nextdoor the right to retain anyone's personal information indefinitely, contrary to the California Consumer Privacy Act.

    Business Response

    Date: 05/27/2025

The neighbor violated Nextdoor's guidelines enough to be suspended indefinitely from the platform. We need to hold the information and will fully delete after one calendar year.

I am rejecting this response because:

Nextdoor claims they "need" to retain my information, but cannot say *why* they need to retain it. In their initial responses to me, they didn't even mention they would delete it after one year. Since they have been unable or unwilling to explain why they "need" to retain my information, let alone for one year only, I can neither accept their "need" to retain my information, nor do I have have confidence in their promise that they will delete it after one year.

On May 17, 2025, a user posted a public statement on Nextdoor that identified me by my profession (dog sitter on Rover), described the dogs I was walking, referenced my exact location, and made damaging, one-sided accusations. I reported the post and the user that same day and followed up with a formal escalation on May 19 to multiple ******************** including their privacy and support teams.Despite all this, the post remains live and both reports have been marked "pending" for over 48 hours. Ive now received confirmation from ******** that they claim the user did nothing wrong. The post continues to damage my business and reputation and has severely affected my mental health I have PTSD and **************************** and am under medical care. The user also made a statement about trying to find me through *****, which I consider threatening. I believe this is a clear violation of Nextdoors own policies on harassment, shaming, and ********** requesting the BBBs help to hold Nextdoor accountable for failing to act on this harm, violating platform guidelines, and refusing to protect vulnerable users from targeted defamation.

    Complaint: 23351387

I am rejecting this response because: Dear BBB Team,

Thank you for your initial reply regarding my complaint against Nextdoor.com (Complaint ID: *********.

While I appreciate the eventual removal of the harmful post, I want to highlight that it took four full days of repeated escalation attempts before any action was taken. During this time, the defamatory post gained traction, causing ongoing reputational harm and emotional distress. The delay directly impacted my mental healthI live with PTSD and ****************************, which were severely triggered by the public nature of this post and Nextdoors lack of immediate support.

Given this, I respectfully reiterate my request for:

Compensation of $2,500 for the emotional distress and reputational damage incurred due to the delay and lack of initial action by Nextdoor.

I hope the BBB can assist in pursuing a more appropriate resolution. If no further support can be provided, I will have to explore filing a small claims lawsuit for damages.

Please advise on the next step.

    Sincerely,
    Melody Ou

NEXTDOOR.COM incorrectly and capriciously disabled my account, purportedly because a neighbor lied I did not live at the stated address. Without verification of any kind, NEXTDOOR.COM suspended my account.I would like my account to be reactivated and an apology from NEXTDOOR.COM. On Thursday, May 8, 2025, I submitted yet ANOTHER appeal to Nextdoor Support via email regarding a determination made on content I reported through their app. The content in question violated ******************* guidelines, which prohibit posts discussing non-local or national political topics. Despite this, the content was reviewed and erroneously deemed not to violate their guidelines. After receiving the initial decision, I submitted a follow-up appeal via email, requesting supervisory review. That communication has gone unanswered. This lack of response raises concerns about the objectivity and integrity of Nextdoors content moderation process. There is a reasonable concern that the original decision may have been influenced by personal or political bias on the part of the reviewing employee. Further, it is unclear whether my appeal was reviewed at all, or if it was disregarded entirelyeither by the same employee or through internal management inaction.I am seeking a transparent, impartial review of the appeal by Nextdoors supervisory staff, as well as an explanation for why the appeal was not acknowledged or addressed in a timely and professional manner.

they answered it correctly in the context of the Nextdoor Community Guidelines or your worldview?

It seems there is a lot of subjective interpretation of judging what is non-local politics.

Can you please provide a rational basis for your determination?

    Something supported by objectivity?

This seems to be a systemic problem in your companys organizational culture.

Please also answer why there was no correspondence from supervision in regards to my complaint besides it being ignored?
