This is a company with a platform app and is discriminating. They closed down an account stating that I'm using a "fake" name. The said they will reinstate my account when I provide them my government I.D with full name D.O.B and Address on it. This company is violating rights and putting citizens in danger of scam/ fraud and Identity Theft! They even label it in their description stating they work with "Third-party Vendors" to verify information. By ********** Law they are required to disclose vendors and their agreement and terms and policy, as it gives permission for Third-party party companies to sell information without citizen's knowledge of even knowing which company is selling their information. Also, this app is rated "T" for Teens. It is not right ti be asking teenagers to show proof of their I.D to share with Third-party companies. I kindly ask BBB to get the right people and do a thermal inspection and in the US and ********** especially. They cannot request a minor's (Anyone under 18 years old) information without parental approval. Please make a formal check on how many minors informations this company has.Business Response

All neighbors have to use their real name. This neighbor specifically changed their last name to what it is now, which prompted the suspension.Customer Answer

Complaint: 20414606
I am rejecting this response because: the business has answered like a robot as always and are saying "neighbors to use their real name" which for the fact I have and then they require IDs as identification which triggered a red flag as they are labeled rated T for teen and not a rated M for mature 18+ app which means they are taking 13 and plus year olds IDs, and submitting them to a third party vendor for verification without parental agreement. I am trying to figure out if this needs to be opened into a civil case in the Superior Court of ********** for racism and discrimination and theft of minor identity as what this company is doing is absolutely wrong.

3 weeks ago, a user on Nextdoor(ND) sent me an ********************* threatening message via DM. Upon my reply, this user tagged me in a public post where my full name appeared, accusing me of "harassment" & asked other neighbors if they can identify me. Within the hour, I had a view on my LinkedIn page & a friend request on ********* later removed. Immediately, I felt uncomfortable and intimidated. ND lacks basic security settings such as being able to remove a tag from other users' post. Due to the intimidation factor where other online profiles were found, including my current place of work, I changed my name on ND while I waited for further resolution. My account was disabled for violating their policy of using your full legal name. Their requirement to obtain access of my account is to provide a copy of a government issued ID - an outrageous policy that needs immediate review; it is not required to sign up for the platform, &there were no further actions that I had access to at the time to protect myself against bogus slander Requiring a copy of a government issued ID is inherently classist; our need-based communities without access to a DMV, funds to obtain new documents, and if you're without a permanent address, you are excluded from using NDs platform. This is unacceptable & goes against everything ND supposedly stands for.ND insist upon this requirement repeatedly stating "Safety" protocols, however none of their actions are in favor of myself, victim of slander &intimidation W/ no accountability of basic security features that could have prevented this situation in the first place Today, 8/2/23, marks 7 days without reply. Their only replies copy&paste "security &safety protocols." I sent my ID THREE times including the expiration year&full legal name, &they claim they're unable to verify &have now ceased responding.Nextdoor has proven to be an enabling, classist, unprofessional, victim-blaming corporation hiding behind outdated & unacceptable policies.Business Response

Definitely understand the neighbor's frustration, especially around being called out on the website.
A few things here:
- What triggered the suspension is that the neighbor changed her last name to a last name that was clearly in violation of our real name policy. We have a setting that allows neighbors to only show their last initial to their neighbors on the website.
- The neighbor sent identification which blacked out many pieces of information that we use to verify identity. The photo was also very small and blurry and our agents let the neighbor know why we couldn't accept it.
- If the neighbor re-sends a more clear version of their identification, we can reactivate the account.

I am rejecting this response as it is untrue. i have opened the .jpg on three different devices and can clearly see the information Nextfoor is forcing. They will not accept my ID because I have removed information they have no right to see. They require the name and expiration date to be shown. I have included the expiry year and my full name is legible. They are hiding behind this claim as a means of a power-grabbing attempt at intimidation. Furthermore, there has been no acknowledgment of the extremist policies they enforce, accountability for the lack of safety features or user experience, and genuine customer service.Business Response

My account was disabled accusing me of being discriminatory and a racist. This accusation was made in response to a post searching for a gardener. Based on my professional licenses (in addition to my familys political ties) any hiring must be in compliance with federal law. This does not make me a racist but instead law abiding. I was attacked for posting federal law and therefore directed to act in violation of said law.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:
Requiring English speaking was in fact a requirement as that is the language that I speak. The list was for a position for which I was hiring. Requiring documentation of valid work credentials / documentation IS A FEDERAL REQUIREMENT! Accordingly this company continues to encourage criminal activity.

Complaint: 20391071
I am rejecting this response because: it is irrelevant that my account was suspended for a shot period. It should never have been suspended. As a result I missed out on an important business opportunity. Moreover my account was suspended for an illegitimate reason. Specifically for complying with our constitution and federal law pertaining. It is illegal to hire anyone who is not authorized to work in *****************. Nextdoor continues to push their political ideals (even when they are ILLEGAL) on members of this site, which is supposed to be non-political. Furthermore, without correction Nextdoor will continue to suspend members for violating its personal political agenda, including when the member is simply in complaint with the law. This company cannot continue to encourage members to violate the law by censoring posts and suspending (or even threatening to suspend) accounts when a post violates their political ideology!

I have now had my account deactivated twice in a week. The first time was for a few days but this time it is for 30 days! ******* claims they have given me the 30 days because they had already warned me the first time about having "civil" discussions. They can't even keep track of what they are doing! The first time I was deactivated it was considered "discriminatory" because of a post regarding pedophiles and child trafficking that I posted in a PRIVATE MEMBERS ONLY APPROVED *****! Nextdoor guidelines say that complaints about content in the PRIVATE *****S are to be moderated by the ***** LEADS!This time I was defending myself and other women from a bully. This person will also attack you in PMs if you stop commenting in the thread. These leads are just randomly assigned people who get no training, then put out there and then they break the "community guidelines" themselves by posting subject matter that they know they shouldn't, create total chaos and then decide who should be punished and who shouldn't. This particular reviewer, ****************'s, is working with other members, ************, ************************* aka ***********************, and others, to bait us into these conversations and then report us. I can't even supply screenshots of the thread. Everything has been deleted from their profiles and the feed. This is a game to them and apparently Nextdoor supports this game. When Nextdoor sent a reply back re: why I was deactivated (see above). These were 2 different circumstances and as said before the first should have NEVER happened. I requested that ******* have a higher up contact me so that I may make an appeal but apparently ******* does not want to allow me to speak to a higher up so I can. I guess Nextdoor can just pick and choose how they will follow their own guidelines. This 30 days is completely ridiculous and ****** punitive. These reviewers and all their buddies are out of control and Nextdoor won't do a thing about it. They have people blocking access to help.Business Response

Nextdoor suspended my account on the basis of discriminatory posting which violated guidelines. However, to date no one will explain how or why my post was discriminatory. The post was not discriminatory in any way, nor was it intended as such. It was simply a statement of fact concerning the consumption of a certain meat source in another part of the world that is a widely known fact. In addition, I provided links to a *** article showing the validity of my post. Therefore, the post was neither discriminatory or inaccurate. How stating that a particular food source is consumed in any part of the world is discriminatory when it is factual, widely known and was not intended to insult is beyond me. This was little more than a targeted attempt to get me suspended simply because someone did not care to know the facts. Even more stupid is the fact that Nextdoor seemingly and blindly went along with this nonsense, rather than seeing it for what it was, that being a frivolous reporting of something only because someone didn't like reading about the subject matter.Business Response

The neighbor made a comment about Asian neighbors eating dog and cats which violated Nextdoor's guidelines.Customer Answer
Date: 08/04/2023
Complaint: 20373898
I am rejecting this response because:Nextdoor's response to the BBB inquiry is an absolutely false statement. I DID NOT post that my Asian neighbors ate cats. Below is my exact post, which was posted in response to a member named ***************************** talking about eating groundhog.
"***************************** I've been told by people that eat them that they're pretty tasty and similar to rabbit if prepared correctly. Then again, there are people that like to chomp on cats, especially in Asian countries."
The above was the exact wording in my post. No where in the above post did I say anything about Asian neighbors. I was making a statement of fact, easily found through a ****** search. There was no attempt to discriminate against anyone. Nextdoor's assertion that my post was discriminatory against anyone is false and does not meet the definition of discrimination. Asian countries are made up of people of all backgrounds, not one particular group of people. The Nextdoor assertion is without merit and I should never have been suspended. The very fact they lied in their response to the BBB is evidence that even they do not believe it was discrimination.
Attached is a PDF of the email I received from Nextdoor support showing their reasoning behind the suspension. Take note of the quoted text in their response. It is the same as what I wrote above in this rejection and shows that what they responded to the BBB with as a reason for suspension is intentionally false.
Sincerely,

Date: 08/10/2023
Complaint: 20373898
I am rejecting this response because:My account was not reinstated due to this complaint or my repeated requests to reinstate based on what was an unfair suspension. They simply allowed the suspension to run out. The evidence of their wrongdoing is shown by what I submitted in my first rejection. NextDoor lied and made a slanderous statement in an effort to hide the fact I did not violate any guidelines and the suspension was without merit.
This behavior on the part of Nextdoor is not unusual.

The neighbor may not have meant to be discriminatory, but the post was deemed discriminatory by Nextdoor Support.Customer Answer
Date: 08/17/2023
Complaint: 20373898
I am rejecting this response because:Again, the post was not discriminatory. Nextdoor is clearly trying to justify an unjustifiable position. This is evidenced by the fact they lied about the content of the post in their initial response. The lie didn't work and now they've chosen to call something discriminatory when it clearly is not.
Nextdoor, in concert with reviewers and members, have targeted myself and others with a number of unjustifiable suspensions and post removals and refuse to adequately respond to inquiries. Their responses to this BBB complaint is exactly how they treat members that have been targeted and harassed, that is they will not properly justify their actions, primarily because they cannot justify them. Easy to do when you can hide behind email and have no regard for truth and common sense.
Sincerely,

I was temporarily suspended for 30 days. Which i believe is not fair. I was being harassed and bullied by a neighbor. She made post telling other neighbors not to trust me , called me names etc. The posts were removed. Any Time I commented on any post even ones that were not posted by this neighbor she would post rude and hateful comments towards me. Telling me to shut up , mind my own business, calling me names etc. This has been going on for about a yr. I have seen her do this to other neighbors also. She has a usually high number of dog rehoming posts. So any time neighbors inquire where she gets so many dogs to rehome or ask questions about the dogs she becomes very defensive rude and hateful. I heard from another neighbor that ****** the neighbor in question was suspended for a few days. Which I found odd since there were so many posts and comments that had been removed that she posted. Bu I defended myself against her allegations about me and I get suspended for 30 days. I know other neighbors have had similar complaints. That *************************** continues to break the guidelines but it seems like the neighbors she attacks get the punishment not her. I just feel there should be away for us to dispute a decision on Nextdoor. Because I feel either our leads have a personal relationship with her or know her outside of nextdoor How can we have a decision reviewed outside of our neighborhood to insure its a fair decision?Business Response

On July 10 or 11, 2023 I contacted Nextdoor to unsubscribe and close my account. I received an email stating that my account had previously been suspended for violating community guidelines and that they had to retain my information for security purposes. I dont believe I ever violated community guidelines, and if I did, I was never notified by nextdoor. Their response was an insult and I suspect a fraudulent method of retaining account information. There is an ongoing problem for moderators, especially people of color being harassed on the Next Door app. One way of harassment is the constant reporting for wrong address. I have submitted this proof over 5 times and Next Door has done nothing to investigate to whom is doing it and taken action against such abuse of the tool.
Another problem is when a person of color speaks up, they are reported as being disrespectful. Gangs of leads and moderators have formed on this app and turned it into a very bias place to occupy on social media.
This is contrary to the rules and people of color are seldom promoted to the volunteer lead positions too. Yet, someone new can instantly come online if they are not a person of color and become lead.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: it’s very obvious that the reports are retaliatory and or deliberate and hateful. I keep getting reported for not living at my address, where I reside- a false report. Yesterday, my account was shutdown for this even though I provided my utility bills and ***** stated she would look into. This is a button that should not be available for users only NextDoor. Someone has done this repeatedly last week close to 4 times on this occasion. It’s deliberate. Also, racism is rampant on the app, as well as leader clicks that form through a leader and they pick their own. Additionally, my own neighborhood on my street would not allow me to join because I am a person of color. More policies need to be implemented and followed to mitigate these frontline issues within the app.

We apologize for the frustration, but this neighbor doesn't show up on normal public records attached to the address, which is why some neighbors are reporting her.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: I do show up in public records. However, why am I being reported when this is not a norm. My address is not public to Next Door so they would never know. Additionally, as mentioned racism is rampant, one guy recently nothing happen to him when he called Latino kids “spooks.” Complaints seem to fall on deaf ears with no one looking into or wanting help people of color when they are ridiculed.Furthermore, though training is very good, no one adheres to the non- racism policies, I am referring to leadership.
And, while many in my neighborhoods are becoming leads I was told the counterwise. For example, I know someone who has a number of reprimands and still made lead. Also, I was told no more leads are to be made. All not true and very targeted it appears.
