The end of July 2023, I contacted Roto-Rooter service no. and was routed to their Runnemede, NJ office. After the initial assessment, it was determined that my main sewer line was cracked and needed to be replaced. The price they gave me was over $12,000. He stated that they would have to break the cement in possibly two places. They would have to: (1) break the cement (4+ ft deep) near the house; then (2) approx. 40 feet away, drill another piece of cement by the sidewalk, but, if possible, they would go in the dirt section (I have his cryptic drawing of same). I said I have insurance, he said he would "write it a certain way and submit it to my insurance company." Also, the hole was not flush with pipe, people can trip over it (I called they refused to fix it); and for over $12,000, there's a "5 yr" warranty. [Sorry...but, I had to cut information from this text box, because it was too large.] CONCLUSION: Long story short, I thought he submitted the bill, as he said he would. When I called my insurance company, I was told that "all bills were paid." I told ********* Bank that it had been paid and I disputed the charges. Later I found out that, he in fact, "did not" submit that portion of the bill to my insurance company. Needless to say, I felt lied to and taken advantage of. When I talked to the actual worker re: the price, he told me that it shouldn't cost that much because he didn't have to go through all that cement, as it was too much work and would have taken too much time. A professional business would have nothing to hide....so why didn't you tell me the truth! When the cement “was not” cut at all, why didn't you alter the price? I am an honest working senior citizen that deserves honesty and respect from the Roto-Rooter company.

Dont ever hire these guys. They gave me an estimate for $14,000 to excavate my yard and install a clean out to snake a backed up sewer line. 2nd opinion plumber found the clean out inside and charged me $390 to snake. Didnt need to excavate or nothing. Roto lied to me and said there was no clean out. They were extremely unprofessional because they were trying to get my wife to sign contracts while I was on the phone with insurance/home warranty. This company is deserves to be out of business. They also wanted $4000 to sanitize the basement. My wife and I spent $50 on chemicals and its good as new.

Used Roto-Rooter CLT in 2/2023 for a faucet installation with new trap and water lines. The tech advised the install would take ~4-5hrs. Roto Rooter charged $1506.98 ($1248 labor; $160.32 parts w/ tax) - that is ~$300/hr. The drain was installed slightly off center, but I wanted the project over and didn't make an issue. Now, only 9 months later, the cold water line is clogged. I have no way of knowing if this is due to an installation issue, but Roto-Rooter advised they would do nothing other than schedule another full-price service appointment. I advised the agent, I spent $1500 on a faucet and it should work 9 months later. She stated, Roto-Rooter largely does commercial work, so, yes, "we're very expensive" and they're not willing to do anything to correct the issue. Disappointed and would never recommend any residential customer use Roto-Rooter for installations. Also, look for this review on other helpful websites like ****** Business and ****.

We had a sewer back up while on vacation. Our house/pet sitter called while we we're stuck in miserable rush hour traffic. After calls to two plumbers we had used in the past and being told they could get to us in 3-5 DAYS, I called roto-rooter. They had a guy out there in under two hours. The drain was cleared (roots) and flowing in minutes and the house sitter was happy again. Great emergency service (although probably overpriced. - My bill was $500). Unfortunately that is where my satisfaction stops. Once the tech had cleared the pipe he called in a guy with a camera. That guy told me (over the phone) there was a broken pipe that had to be repaired. He said it would be okay until I returned from vacation the next week and he sent me a proposal for "sleeving" the drain as a permanent solution. Since that process does not require digging up the yard I thought it good to get a price. The bid was $11,500! When we returned from vacation I asked our "regular" plumber for a second opinion. He scoped the drain twice (with me watching the screen) and we saw no broken pipes! We did, however see tree roots at each pipe junction. (Not at all unexpected in a 90 year old house.) He too advised that, since the roots WOULD grow in again, the sleeving procedure would be permanent solution. He assured us that the sewer would be fine until the roots blocked it again. And we could, at that time, call them to clear them again. The decision then became regular maintenance or permanent solution. His sleeving price, however, was roughly half of the roto-rooter quote! He also offered 18 month interest free financing. Since we plan to die in this house, we elected to move forward with the sleeving. So overall, Roto-Rooter emergency service was great, but beware of add-on services/charges.

Please do not misunderstand. I have no complaint with the initial service (clearing the drain). It was done quickly and efficiently. And the tech was pleasant and polite. And my housesitter was not left in a house with no sewer. So everybody was happy with THAT result. My concern was the "scare tactic" of telling me I had a broken pipe that had to be mended. And then the exaggerated estimate. And then finding out that I actually do NOT have a broken pipe. Service industries, actually ALL business, is built on trust.

Back in August, I had roto-rooter come out to flush my lines because resin beads leaked. It was also suggested I replace the water softener because is was no longer good since it leaked out. The plumber Ray T***** is the one who came out. He was very nice, answered my questions and if I have any problems to call him directly. He said not to worry he will be there for us. I did yesterday and my calls aren't being returned. I called the office and asked to speak to a manager and I was told he would call me back in 2-3 hrs. It’s now going on 4 hrs. This is what I was charged. 1. $3,487 for labor and warranty of replacing the water softener 2. $1,980 to flush the lines. 3. Cost of water softener was $1,496 ( **** **** has it for $600) 4. So the labor total was $5,467 Parts ( water softener) $1,496 40% discount on labor. 5. Total bill $4,899 I have an autistic daughter and it has been on my mind since the install I feel I was taken advantage on costs and over-assured from Mr. T***** to not worry. That this was the best water softener to install. I felt I had no choice to not get a second opinion because no other plumber I had called before roto-rooter was booked out and I needed this done because of my daughter. This isn't right. The bill for replacing a $600 water softener and to flush lines is $4,899! If he didn't give me a discount, it would have been $7,000! Does this look right to you. The only reason why I did not call sooner is because my autistic daughter has been having health issues and that was more important at the time.

A very nice tech, Chad, came and checked out our pipe outside of the garage because it was leaking water. He snaked it and said we had 24 hours to call if anything happened. That night my husband did a load of laundry and the water came out of the pipe again. I called the number that we were given (**************). We were told that a tech would be at our house the next day. That Wednesday, nobody came. I received a call from one of your customer service reps a little after 10 PM to schedule an appointment. That was way too late and it woke me up. That Thursday someone was supposed to be here and nobody showed up. That Friday I got a call that someone was supposed to be here and nobody showed up. We haven’t heard a thing from Roto and we’re ******. This is beyond unprofessional. Imagine paying over $400 for that type of horrible service.

I went through a great deal of frustration with other resources before calling Roto-Rooter. My sewer was backing up in one of my rainwater drains. I spoke with, or had visits from, my sewer insurance company plus their associated plumbing company, the City of *********, the ********* Sewer System (neorsd), Wastewater Management, and an independent sewer cleaning company, trying to determine where my sewer line was as well as the "cleanout". Different "experts" located different places the cleanout might be and offered differing theories about the problem. When I called Roto-Rooter I was told "we will figure out what the problem is and we will fix it". And that is exactly what happened. Garry's family had been residents of the area and he was able to explain that in this neighborhood the sewer and stormwater lines were combined and most homes did not have cleanouts installed if they were built before 1978. His crew checked out six of my lines until they found the blockage (tree roots) and were able to break through that. The other lines were cleared as well of their sludge. It was suggested that I have a cleanout installed so that future sewer clogs can be cleared more completely and efficiently. (I plan to do so.) I am a single 73-year-old lady, and I cannot adequately express how much these professionals relieved my stress and confusion. If you are looking for professionalism and knowledge from a company, give these folks a call!

I’m filing claims for insurance fraud on behalf of a 86 year old in *** ***** California. This is extortion. They use Predatory practices. She called a plumber to fix a leaky toilet and paid 290.00. Ok sounds fair enough in San Jose ca prices. Then they sent some guys to hang up tarps and set up some machines to filter the air because they say there is mold and left it there a week then came and got equipment. They had her sign a iPad at some point. They talked to her insurance company and found out her insurance wasn’t paying and now they are charging her 5000.00. Just sent her to collections and the collector called today and called her a liar. I had just finished talking to her social worker and she found out her food stamps were getting cut because her social security went up because her husband died. So they certainly didn’t tell her or explain she would be on the hook for 1000’s of dollars. they told me they could be charging 20,000. and she was lucky. Literally still has water and leak stains on walls. No sheet rock replaced, no flooring touched or paint or repairs of any kind were done. Looks exactly the same as when they came. She is not paying the bill. She can’t pay the bill. I called and told the collector not to contact her again. There are lots of plumbing companies. Don’t call roto rooter especially in the Bay Area.
