1 starMy mother-in-law got a phone from them a couple of years ago and I helped her with the process. It was a nightmare. I don't remember the details now, but part of it was getting the phone she wanted. We ended up having to drive a half hour to a Target store to get it. At the time new customers were supposed to get 6 months free service and I had to fight them for her to get it. I spent hours on the phone with them. I kind of forgot how bad that was before I started dealing with them again. I also figured that was a one time thing. I decided it was time for a new phone and my wife told me they had good deals on them, so I checked out the site and picked one. Then I went about trying to port my number and get the new phone activated. So far, I have spent about 6 hours chatting and on the phone with them. I've been disconnected twice and was promised a call back that never happened 2 or 3 times. I heard they had "system problems" more than once. A good ways into the process, I noticed my new phone was activated with a new number without my knowledge or permission. I was also billed for a month of service. I got them to reverse that charge, but it wouldn't surprise me if they charged me again. I decided that the only way I would continue is if they would give me some free months. I asked for calls back from a customer service manager about that, but never got them. I then decided that I was done with them and I'd put my old provider's SIM card into my new phone, It didn't work. TracFone had locked my phone. I called them and couldn't get them to unlock it because I did not have the correct pin #. If I use a pin, it's one of two and neither worked. I don't think I even established one with them. They told me that I would have to wait another month before it could be unlocked. I will be surprised if that works out. Luckily, my old phone still works. My wife has had no problem with them for years, but I wonder if she's the only one.Review fromJames S

1 starI walked away from this dispicable company leaving years of prepaid ************ just to get away after three help desk personnel told me they:d fixed a problem but hadn't. The help desk has to be the worst in existence & the level one service is basically a bunch of Junior operators reading from an inane script. Yo make it even worse, they close for several hours each night & send you to a totally unhelpful automated system. If you need to buy data from them, the pricing is ridiculous. Save yourself a great deal of grief & go elsewhere. You'll be glad you did. The *** should shut these clowns down.Review fromAmber E

1 starI have spent 4 hours over 9 total phone calls trying to get two phones activated. The first phone only took me 2 of those calls, but it was a device we bought from them. We also bought a bring-your-own-phone plan and sim card from their website. They will not honor the plan to activate the phone. We would have to buy another plan with a card. The plan we purchased is labeled "BYOP plan". It appears to be a scam that you can buy it, but you can't use it. Their customer service is horrible. You have to go through the same 30-minute run-around every time you get disconnected; it is a fight to have someone transfer you (and they generally won't do it); and no one will call you back, even if they are the cause of the disconnection. I was also told that they can't see information about your prior calls or transfer you to the same person you were talking to before. I have never had such horrible customer service. We will put the second phone with a different company and move the working line as soon as the phone is unlocked.Review fromEric W

I bought a phone and $100 plan through tracphone thinking they are a longstanding and reputable company. I was wrong. They are unprofessional, unhelpful, and an unorganized mess. The phone I bought was defective (not their fault). When I contacted them to send it back, I was sent to a call center which is presumably in India.(Immediate language barrier) I spent over an hour trying to figure out how to return the package and get a return label. The first representative told me to bring it to UPS. UPS tells me they can't take it. The next call center representative told me to bring it to USPS. I take it there and end up paying $5 to return the defective item to them! I then proceed to buy a new phone, with no plan, figuring that the $100 plan I purchased could be used for the new phone. Nope, the plan is only available for the defective phone. They gave me an unconfident explanation that once the defective phone is received, I will then get a replacement and the plan will work. Side note, this information took 5 hours to get out of them. I got a different answer and a different solution from around 10 different representatives. Hence why I believe the solution to be an unconfident answer. I hope they can refund me. I could trail this bad experience off to the dot with another 5 paragraphs but I'm not sure it is necessary. This company will likely be done in the next 10 years if they don't clean their act up.Review fromTrisha E

1 starThey refused to cancel my order before it was shipped because, "We have your money already, your payment went through". I have worked in customer service most of my life and I have never heard garbage like that before. My bank is investigating them for fraud and it actually took 2 days for my payment to go through, that was just on of the many lies they told me. I returned their phone and have the proof from *** so my bank should be able to take care of it but this company is trashy and I just found out that ******* owns them. Shame on *******. When I do find another phone company, it won't be *******.Review fromTD E

1 starI used this company for my father, as he is elderly and didn't need a full phone plan. I will say, he's used Tracfone for probably close to 10 years, but the problem always had to do with phone upgrades. Once, we upgraded from an older flip phone to a newer one, and it took me over an hour to transfer his plan to his new phone even though we purchased it through them. I also had to purchase a new plan even though he had time remaining on his old one. This past weekend we tried to upgrade to a smartphone. I purchased it through Tracfone, set it up as far as I could before calling them, and then spent 3 hours (not exaggerating at all) with at least 4 different people essentially telling me that they couldn't activate the phone, it would have to be part of Straight Talk and not Tracfone and getting to the point that one person told me I'd have to fix the problem through Apple. I demanded a refund and to send back the phone AND for them to refund me for a plan that they auto renewed without consent. I have since spent 3 more phone calls and over an hour and a half trying to get an email with a label to return the phone, only to be told by the last person that I have to pay shipping. I'm doing it because I want Tracfone out of my life, but we've already gotten a new phone and a plan from someone else. I will never deal with Tracfone again and think they are being deceptive in their tactics.Review fromBrandi L

1 starGot a basic tracphone for my mom as she is in hospital. I left phone with her after activating it. I called later to sign up on their website in order to add minutes monthly. The operator was difficult and even though I owned the phone, paid for it and minutes, have my email and name on everything they will not provide me with any info because they could not verify my email (they typed my email wrong during phone set up). Their mistake has caused me to not have access to my account and cannot change anything with the phone. The operator said they aren't allowed to let a supervisor get on the line when I asked numerous times. **************** is horrible. I clearly asked for someone who spoke clearer English and was denied several times.Review fromKaren F

1 starIf I could leave a zero star, I would. My daughters phone died on December 2, 2023, I called customer service, after the online customer service was unsuccessful. They assured me that they would replace the phone, since it was less than a year old. The person on the phone said they would ship me a replacement phone, but the e-mail I received said that I needed to send in our phone to receive a replacement. They received our phone on December 7, 2023. I have been making weekly calls since early December, it is not nearing the end of January, I was told today, that if I do not received anything this week, they will see if they can return **************** to me. Meanwhile I have paid for two months of phone service I did not receive, nor do I have a phone I paid for . . .There are no supervisors to escalate to and week after week, I just get the same answers.Review fromMatthew E

1 starAfter my first 2 interactions via phone and chat, I found it imperative to record phone conversations with customer service and keep your chat transcripts. I was told that to restore service on an existing line that was disconnected I needed to purchase a sim card and a service plan pin. So, I went to a local retailer and purchased these as well as a newer/upgraded device. When I activated the Sim card/30day service plan I realized it simply added another line to my account with a new phone number instead of just refill the service on the existing line with my actual phone number. I called ************* to ask for the line to be deleted from my account and the service plan to be credited to the original phone line/number. I was told that they could not give credit since the 2nd line was activated. Note: no calls, texts, or any data was used of which you can see in your account app. Finally, after multiple phone calls and chats, I got an agent that issued the credit to my plan resulting in a due date of 02/18/24. While on the phone with customer service, I logged into my app and confirmed this to reflect what the agent was sharing verbally (and on a recorded line from my end as I have been screwed prior and it was my word against theirs) The account app reflected 02/18 to my surprise as well. However, between Dec 2023 and today 01/19/2024) my service renewal date has been changed without any notice to 01/19/2024. Additionally, my rewards points balance which can be redeemed for service time/upgrades has decreased from that last contact in Dec 2023. I simply want my rewards points refilled to the balance reflected in Dec 2023 as well as my service renewal to reflect what was showing Dec 2023. The call was recorded and I have a screenshot of the app reflecting this data. The company refused to do anything for me and ended up hanging up on me. Simplemobile...SimplemoronsReview fromElla B

1 starWon't stop charging me. I cancelled my service with Tracfone in early November through their website, however it didn't actually work. They have continued to charge my card every month since. I disputed the December and January charges with my bank and my bank has asked them to stop charging my card. I tried to call twice in December to cancel my service again and after being on hold for AGES, I was connected to people. As soon as I mentioned that I wanted to cancel my service, both people hung up on me. The website chat feature does not work and there is no contact email listed.
