1 starI pre-booked my care rental with ************ When I picked up my vehicle I was offered additional insurance on the rental. I declined additional insurance. When I return the vehicle I received a receipt for the vehicle indicating that I had accepted loss damage waiver (LDW); this was added to the rental without my knowledge or agreement. I called Thrifty and Hertz car rental support and was told that if I accepted the vehicle then I accepted the charges. I requested a refund and was refused. I would avoid a company that adds charges without telling you.Review fromAndrew J

1 starMy wife and I rented a Thrifty Car Rental vehicle from **************************** 04/16/2024 to 0423/2024, The car was dirty inside, especially the windows. The rental agent insisted we upgrade to 4WD to get through a bad snow storm. Even though I declined the 4WD three times, the agent kept telling my wife we needed it so I had to agree so she would not be afraid to proceed with our vacation. That type of high pressure, scare tactic sale method is unethical, to say the least. The additional cost was $140. There was no snow storm. Upon dropping the car off I was told I could wait in line for a receipt but was assured that I would be emailed one for the previously agreed amount. When I received the emailed receipt at home the next day, there was an unspecified additional charge of $60.74. Neither customer service rep ******* or ******* would address or give a reason for this charge. In addition, the vehicle was a subpar 2019 model with over ****** miles on it. I could rent that for $15 a day from Just 4 Wheels. Also, the agent said my wife was not allowed to drive without another large upcharge of $20 a day that we could not afford, nor should we have to. I'm 66 years old and never have we been asked to pay extra to have our spouse as an additional driver. That was a source of dissatisfaction with my wife and consequently me, the entire trip. The iPhone charging ports stopped working near the end of the trip, also. I have contacted Thrifty/Hertz customer service via their guidelines and it took me two weeks to get in contact with the afore mentioned customer service reps. ********************** deceived us by offering a reasonable initial price and then hard sell extras, add on "ghost charges" and deliver below average vehicles. This company is a "clip ".Review fromMs S

1 starWe prepaid and requested no electric vehicles but they did not have a car ready for us at pick up and were forced to take the ** or lose the first day of a 3 day trip. It was a nightmare, the infrastructure just doesnt exist to charge your car reliably on a road trip, even if it looks like there are many electric charging points about 2/3rds of them are nonexistent/broken and the other third that work are frequently occupied. We told the agent we didnt think we were going to places that would have them, more remote areas, and they did not care. We spent about 2-3 hours every day trying to find chargers and another 1-2 hours at the actual charging station so we basically soent most of our trip stressing over charging the car.Review fromJosie S

1 starHorrible service. Was supposed to receive our car at 3:30pm and it is 6pm and still waiting in line to speak with someone. They yelled at us in line continually to check in on the app and go get our car but the only prompt the app gave was your car is not ready yet. Do not rent from here if you dont want to waste your whole vacation waiting for a car you paid almost $2,000 to rent.Review fromErich W

1 starI booked a prepaid trip with a car rental I was forced to take an EV or pay $200 to get a gas vehicle. Completely unreasonable I would have accepted an gas vehicle they had to offer. I was traveling to Sendona where there is very limited options to charge the car. Was well as several lengthy road trips. Terrible busyReview fromJeff L

1 starVery bad experience renting from Thrifty and would not use again. 1.) Long lines at time of pickup that took over an hour. 2.) By the time I got to the desk, they didn't have the car I requested 3.) After opting out of the pre-paid feul, I find that I was still charged for it after receiving my final bill. 4.) Then find out you have to submit a gas receipt after the fact. 5.) Gas receipt was not accepted bc they said I agreed to this in the rental paperwork (which I did not, but you have to sign the paperwork). SCAM.....!!!Review fromLynn D

1 starI rented a compact car from Thrifty car rental at *************************************** in ***************, ******* (RSW) on April 9, 2024. I was directed to the lot and told to go to the compact car section and pick whatever car I wanted from there, and this is what I did. I checked out and was on my way. 30 minutes later when I had almost reached my destination I noticed the display on the dash looked odd, and when I pulled over to investigate I found that I had taken an electric car. I know nothing about electric cars, and therefore wanted to exchange it. After searching through my rental agreement, and online I was unable to find a direct phone number to Thrifty rental at RSW, the only number I was able to find was and automated ***** number. I turned around and went the 25 miles back to airport to return the car. Upon pulling in to the return area, I stood there asking every employee that passed me for help and they just walked past me. Employees were checking in cars behind me till I finally said in a load voice "Will someone please help me". at which time an employee did acknowledge me and instruct me to go to the Hertz gold booth which I did and was laughed at when I explained what had happened. I was told to go back to the compact car area, take a picture of the mileage and bring back the keys, which I did and then had to walk back to the car, which was not a short distance. When I asked why the electric cars were not separated from the gas compact cars or at least marked that they were electric I was told that's not what we do. The rudeness I experienced that day is beyond measure and I wish I could leave no stars.Review fromKari N

1 starThis company doesn't deserve even one star!!! They provided us with a vehicle that ended up having significantly low coolant. We ended up having to get the vehicle towed. Our options were to get an Uber back to the airport to get another car or wait until the next day and try and get a vehicle at a closer Thrifty location. We chose the later and we were told to call the Roadside assistance number at 8 am the following day. I was not able to talk with a customer representative until 12:30 pm. They still were not able to get us a car at a closer location so we chose to cancel the reservation because we didn't want to waste more of our vacation dealing with a company that you couldn't speak to anyone and that provided us with a car that wasn't properly maintained. We then received a bill for over $300 more than our previous bill even though we had the car for less days. At no time have we been able to speak to a customer service representative and they continue to tell us that the bill is right because we cancelled early even though they gave us a undrivable car. We then contacted the BBB and they finally responded stating they plan to give our account an adjustment so we agreed to the resolution. Needless to say, we haven't received a refund yet and it has almost been a month since they claimed they gave us the refund...This company is ******* and steals money from customers.Review fromAngie M

1 starDO NOT RENT an electric car!!!! Thrifty car rental in ***** NIGHTMARE. I rented an electric car. Rep ***** tell me MOST of the charging stations are broken or no longer there. I drive 20 miles down US 19 there was not l a single charging station operational. I went to 7 stations!!Finally a ****** dealer let me charge until they closed at 8 pm. That got me 17 miles. I was in a panic. It was Friday 5 pm rush hour traffic.I called Thrifty roadside assistance 3 times he stayed on the phone with me, he could not find me a working charging station. I called thrifty 3 times to find another gas car none of the locations had cars available. I called thrifty corporate they answered after a ************************************ I flew into ***** for my mothers 87th birthday. I couldnt get to her due to this **** car. I missed her birthday. I had to rent a hotel. I had dinner at 10 pm i was so exhausted but charged at Whole Foods for 2 1/2 hours sitting in my car in a dark parking lot until midnight. The next day I had enough to charge drive to my families but I had to leave my car charging 3 separate times in ******* ***************************************************************** to the station 3 times to keep the charge going as theres a 2 hour limit. We couldnt stay at beach more than an hour. We tried the charger in the car the prong was broken. Im at ************* now. I went to 3 thrifty counters none of them can help me get a refund for my car and hotel room. I was told to call thrifty but its only prompts giving me a we out to log into. Dont put yourself through this. These rental companys make quick money then have absolutely no customer support. They should not be allowed to get away with this.Review fromLawrence L

1 starI had a HORRIBLE experience with Thrifty car rental in the ********************. I had a car rental scheduled to be picked up on Saturday April 20, 2024, and when i got to the counter, they told me that my car was no longer available because i was late for my pickup. They give a 2 hour window and then just give away your car they said. I never was promted to give a pickup time, so it gave me a 1:45pm timeslot. I arrived at window at 4pm, 15 min after their window, and my car was gone. I needed to wait over 1 hour for a ride home, and then back to airport next morning for a car from a different car rental. Never again!!!
