Thrifty at St. Louis airport- I rented a car from them and when I got there and got the keys and was about to leave the lady begin saying she needed to change the car because that car had been reported stolen. This left me leaving the place a hour into my time. Upon returning the car the facility had the entrance blocked. I explained feeling uncomfortable with driving up the wrong way to pull the car in front of the building. The guy got mad saying they couldn’t accept the car if it’s left at the entrance. But also refused to open the entrance gate for a proper return. The next day I was charged a $350 smoking fee although the car had no odor.

Guy told me the car would be $307 all in - we went back and forth about it for 10 minutes. Just got the receipt and it was $425…what? Tried to call all of their customer service numbers and none of them are active. Manipulative sales people, terrible customer service - I do NOT recommend.

Do not rent from Thrifty. I rented a car to be picked up on Santa Fe in Olathe, only to find the location closed permanently. I was directed to Thrifty in Gardner KS, 20-30 miles away. This is where it said to pickup: Thrifty Car Rental car rental in Olathe idsize Jeep Compass or similar 5 passengers Unlimited mileage Pick-up and drop-off Fri, Aug 8, 10:30am - Fri, Aug 15, 10:30am 1904 E Santa Fe St, Olathe, Missouri, USA, MKC When I tried to cancel through Expedia, they said this: We are following up about your request to cancel your booking and request a refund from Thrifty Car Rental. We spoke with Thrifty Car Rental to advocate for your refund. Unfortunately, since your booking was reserved as non-refundable, they are unable to make any exceptions to their policy and will not be issuing a refund. We know this is disappointing. We always advocate for greater flexibility on behalf of our travelers, but Thrifty Car Rental has strict cancellation policies, and unfortunately there’s nothing else we can do at this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to respond to this email – we're here to help. Best regards, Louie A** I. mnlligloso Expedia Travel Team

THE WORST CAR SHOPPING EXPERIENCE EVER!I called the dealership before visiting, inquiring about a particular vehicle listed via their website. The person receiving the call identified himself as "Mo" and informed me that the vehicle was on the lot. I told him that I would be there soon. When we arrived at the dealership, we located the vehicle and were on the lot for approximately ten minutes. At this point, no one from the dealership had come out of the sales office to meet or greet us. So, we went into the sales office. What we discovered was three apparently salespeople sitting and on their cell phones. I announced jokingly, "What, nobody is working the point, and we have been on the lot for ten minutes." I went on to say, "Are you selling cars today?" What happened next was outrageous. I let them know the vehicle we were interested in and to whom I had spoken on the phone earlier. One of them stated to the effect, "No one by that name works here... Maybe you called a different dealership." At that point, I redialed the number. The office phone rang and was picked up by the guy looking right at me. He answered. I recognized his voice as the person I had previously spoken to. The situation deteriorated at this point. I informed him of the reason I am here. We want to see the vehicle with the intent to purchase today, cash, if the car meets our satisfaction and the price is right. The level of rudeness and disrespect we received from these apparent, lazy, disinterested, and quite frankly displaced since of entitled salespersons was ridiculous. They treated us with such disdain as though they were somehow doing us a favour. Again, I stated to them that I would like to see the vehicle. At this point, the salesperson showed me the door, jesturing me to leave. My recommendation is, go to one of the reputable dealerships at the local Auto Malls.

In addition to rude workers, they didn't give the car full of gas - i took pictures that i returned it with more gas than as received and they charged me for 88.5 dollars. After I made the claim they said that they refunded but it never went back. What they are doing is fraud. AVOID THIS PEOPLE.Unfortunetly this is the second time it happens

We had booked a golf vacation to Kona Hi in April. We had used our Avion points to book a flight and car rental through Thrifty Car Rentals. The flight was very good, except the car rental. We booked a midsize suv and when we arrived the suv was really small so we got another midsize Ford Explorer. Everything was good except when we got home there a rental charge on my credit card for the full rental of the Ford Explorer. I disputed the charge with the credit card company and was told that our charge was ligit because we changed vehicle. Not happy as the vehicle we rented cost us about $900usd for 5 days and we drove a little over 200 Km

Stay away from this company! Quoted a price online and checked in online. When I went to the counter to pick up my vehicle in Florida, I was forced to pay for additional insurance and fees. My bill was more than double after I talked the person at the counter down two hundred dollars. No matter how many times I said what my online confirmation price was, she would not let me get the car without the extra insurance I didn't want or need. Sickening that they operate this way!

Rented a car in Seattle. Within the first day we noticed a large screw that was imbedded. Clearly been there a while because the head was worn down and looked like it had been there a while (suv had almost 10k miles when we rented). We were out of cell phone reception and attempted to plug the tire. We were losing air pressure and it worked for a day. Put on spare. Next day we Tried to fix the tire so we would have a spare. Key to lower spare wouldn’t work. day we are back in cell range. Called Thrifty. She told us to go to the airport thrifty and get them to replace the vehicle. No case number given. Got to the window and told they have to have a case number. Had to call customer service back just so the guy at the window if the airport thrifty could help us. Two days of dealing with a tire and we are faced with the charge of replacing the tire, getting charged for bringing the vehicle back without putting a full tank of gas, and whatever else they can hit us with. By the way I purchased the rental car insurance to supplement my insurance. Thrifty never considered it. Won’t be renting from this company or its affiliates again. NOT CUSTOMER FRIENDLY!

I booked a “Wild Car” deal through Expedia, which promised a surprise vehicle at a good rate. What I got instead was a frustrating and borderline deceptive experience. When I arrived at the Thrifty counter, the agent asked where I was headed. I mentioned we were driving to a lodge in a national park, and he immediately responded with, “Oh, that’s unfortunate,” before revealing that the car I was assigned was an all-electric vehicle. Nowhere during the booking process did it mention electric vehicles were even a possibility. Since there were no charging stations available at our destination, I was told I had to “upgrade” to a hybrid car—at nearly the same cost as the original booking. So essentially, I paid double what I had agreed to through Expedia. The agent tried to spin this as a bonus, saying I’d make the money back in fuel savings. Spoiler: I didn’t. When we got to the garage to pick up the upgraded vehicle, it wouldn’t start due to an error message. A staff member tried to fix it, failed, and reassigned us to a different car—not a hybrid, just a regular gas-powered vehicle. We didn’t realize until we were already on the highway that the gas tank was nearly empty. We had to immediately stop and put $40 of fuel in. When I called to complain, I was told it was my fault—because once the car leaves the garage, it’s mine, no matter the issues. Absolutely no accountability. This was an awful experience. I will never rent from Thrifty again, and I wouldn’t recommend booking through Expedia either. Neither company stood by what I paid for. Total bait-and-switch.
