1 starBuyer Beware!!! Im a wildland firefighter. I came to ***** on a fire assignment, normally Id use Enterprise but they were sold out. My assignment was managing fire support aircraft and I had to follow them to where they went. We got relocated to another state and before I got sent to yet another fire in a different state I decided to fly, so I needed to drop off the vehicle at a different airports Hertz. I called the Boise location and asked if there was a penalty and the person told me it would be $80 a day. I could live with that so I dropped it off. Days later while still on assignment I tried checking into a hotel but my card was maxed out. Turns out they charged me about $2250 a week and since I had it 10 days they charged me for 2 weeks averaging out to $450 a day. I called the location and asked why they did that and said it was a one way rental and the manager sets the rates. So I called back and asked for the manager, he said he didnt tell me $80 so it didnt matter and said he could charge me more, implying he gave me a deal. I told him I was a firefighter and what I was doing and if he gives breaks to first responders to which he replied why would I give you a break? It was never mentioned to me this was a one way rental and if I knew I would have returned it and rented from someone else. My *** card people at ** said they are still adding charges as I type this. The manager is extremely smug and mean spirited and I greatly regret renting from them and this has left such a bad taste in my mouth that Ill never use Hertz ever againReview fromRodney S

1 starMy Hertz Reservation K98331982F9 Member Number:******** Subject: Complaint Regarding Hertz Rental Experience Hertz appears to be operating a "Bait and switch tactics. In conversation with the physical location and on the phone with Hertz Reservation Booking. They point the finger at the other ti blame as they continue to charge and deduct funds knowing in advance that the vehicles offered during reservations isn't available. Then they tell you a vehicle should be in within a few hours.I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with my recent Hertz rental experience at the **************, ** location. My original booking confirmation number was K97507754C0.I had booked a reservation well in advance and received a confirmation. However, when I called to confirm the reservation and change my pickup time, I was informed that the company had charged an old card and required me to show my current card and ID. This was despite the fact that both cards were attached to the same account. Instead of simply changing the order, Hertz insisted on canceling and recharging for a new reservation, promising a refund within 7-10 days.On the day of pickup, I arrived 30 minutes early to find that the location had no available cars, only SUVs at a significant upcharge. Despite calling multiple Hertz numbers, I was unable to obtain any assistance or alternative solutions. Due to my scheduled time constraints, I was forced to upgrade the rental. Canceling the reservation would have resulted in an additional 10-day hold on my funds.I am deeply disappointed by Hertz's business practices and lack of concern for customer satisfaction. I believe that the company's actions were both inconvenient and ********* new reservation number is K98331982F9, and my member number is ********.I request a full investigation into this matter and appropriate compensation for the inconvenience caused.Thank you for your prompt attention to this complaint.Sincerely,****** *******Review fromJoanne M.

1 starThis process has taken so long. I rented a 2024 ****** in SMF to drive to ******, **. Close to my destination an orange alert sign flashed "Malfunction" "please pull over carefully and stop car." The next am I called Hertz to come get the car. They came. I asked about a replacement. I was told to call Hertz SMF. I did for 2 days. All calls went directly to VM. I was also calling customer service for 3 days who also told me to call Hertz SMF. Finally one agent asked a supervisor. I was then told to contact Roadside Assistance. ** tried to get me a Lyft but I'm way out in the foothills and nobody took to call. They then contacted a private cab company and because Hertz didn't have a contract with them, I had to pay $241.25. I was told Hertz SMF would reimburse me. (They could not). I had been communicating with Hertz customercare but it all seemed to be AI generated because they didn't seem to get it. I wanted my cab ride refunded and I wanted recompensation for not having a car for 2.5 days. I started contacting Hertz ************************** who said to call back in 7 days. I did. It hadnt been resolved. She resubmitted case ******** and said someone would call me. They haven't. Finally I sent the original customer care a copy of my cab receipt 3 times.first, they didn't get it, then it was too faded, then there was no record with roadside assistance. Finally they approved my request for a refund 3 weeks ago. I haven't received it. I've never heard back from Hertz Executive customer service which was supplied through the BBB, I still want to discuss the whereabouts of my cab ride reimbursement and a refund for not having a car for 2.5 days. I'm being forced to select a star rating. 1 star is too **** starsReview frombruce s

1 starHorrible customer service, horrible vehicle and bad experience! Vehicle was not available at reserved time. When vehicle became available an hour later, that vehicle had dents scratches, a cracked grill and other broken parts on front of vehicle. When I explained to the agent the damages on the vehicle were unacceptable in addition to being late, agent abruptly said he was voiding contract, leaving me stranded.Review fromCanace N

1 starI reserved a car and stood in line for over 2 hours for a car (with my 6 year old son and no technology for distraction). I was the lucky one who would accept an EV car. I got the car dirty because they were quickly turning cars around as soon as they were returned. The tire sensor was on, so *** brought it back inside and filled the tire. Later that night I needed to refill tire and then refill again. They were closed on Sunday so I couldnt call and the tire went completely flat on side of road. I had to get it towed because EV cars dont have a spare. They charged $290 for towing for their own faulty tire and then tried to charge me for a full week rental when I only had it 2 days. Their customer service is atrocious. I spent multiple hours on the phone to be given promises of escalation and no further communication. When I requested the towing receipt for my credit card company they refuse to give me any more than the line item on my regular receipt.Review fromJoe S

1 starGot a car and confirmation email a week ago. Somehow ended up with 2 cars. Called the phone number on the email and they got it figured out. Told me all we would need to pick up the car was my husband's ID. Got a call less than ********************************************************************************************************************* 500 in the bank as a deposit... ended up with canceling the reservation and now have to scramble to leave town on time today. Thanks for nothing.Review fromAndrew F

1 starWe pre-paid for a rental car in *****. When we tried to pick up our "reserved" car, the teller told us it had been rented already the the new car would be an extra $350. Then he added $90 for a full tank voucher that I said I didn't want. NEVER RENT FROM HERTZ. They new we had no choice but to take the car- bait and switch scam artists. The corporate help line is 100% useless.Review fromJessica I

1 starWe were forced to work with Hertz when my **** engine was recalled. The first rental return, they lost the $50 deposit. There is only one person in the entire ******* that does refunds. So we opted for a stop payment/rebuttal with our bank - which would later hurt us during this process. The second time we went just to renew the rental because my car was still out. Again they did not return the deposit, and they charged us $80. It took two hours to complete the re-rental, and the manager on duty was on his personal iPhone and at one point said to everyone The sun shines out my *** I let **** know and I dont know if anything ever happened with that. The third rental we went to *********** because we live an hour away from *************/KC. This person said our vehicle was disgusting. We washed and vacuumed that vehicle before return and I have the photos that prove otherwise. They asked if I would be willing to vacuum it again. However the rental was up, the store was closing in 10 minutes, AND he couldnt re rent me the same car because it had expired tags! That location charged us $125 cleaning fee and again kept the deposit. The car they gave us in return was full of old receipts from *********, and other trash between and behind the seats. Charge yourself $125!! This weekend **** called to say my personal car was ready. We drove home early from *******, sold our event tickets and returned the car early. Again, cleaned. Today there is an unknown charge for $108.88. I never got to find out what it was for. The reception thought they had me on hold, but I overheard their conversation. There is a code on our rental profile that is ****. I overheard them laughing and saying It stands for vehicle returned, customer ********. I was disconnected from the call and they have not answered my calls or attempted to call me back after that. My bank is skeptical of all the disputes, so we are truly screwed thanks to Hertz.Review fromAnne S

1 starThe price to extend my rental by one day through the website was very different from what they told me when I picked up the car. Hertz makes it nearly impossible to talk to a human. No one ever picked up the phone at the location where I got the rental. I was only able to talk to a human by calling the *** line. I said that the cost to extend was very different from what they said at the counter and he said I needed to call the counter then. I told him I called the counter multiple times and was not sure if I even had the correct number. When I asked him to confirm the counter number, he said I could go online and look it up. When I kept explaining that I was not sure if I had the right number online, he just kept saying that he couldn't give me the number. What kind of customer service is this?? If I knew what I know now, I would have rented from a different company.
