1 starAbsolute joke. Rented and returned a car early October. No damages and everything seemed fine. Now I keep getting random charges on my credit card from both Hertz and Plate Pass. Some of them were for tolls, which is fine, but they keep adding other random charges months later! I have no explanation for what these charges are for and neither do they. I keep having to talk to multiple companies to get an answer and they "Refund" a small portion of it. Now, almost 3 months later, I see another charge on my credit card. I am going to lose it. This seems highly illegal to just randomly charge customers in random amounts months later, with no email, text, or any other explanation, even when I call and am talking to them in person. They must be stealing millions of dollars from customers all over with this shady practice. They need to be exposed and held accountable.Review fromMichael P

1 starAt local office, some good and some bad representatives. Some knowledgeable and some clueless. That's the way it is everywhere apparently. Where I have problems is with collections and billing. Do not ever set up an automatic deduction if you're renting by the week. This company charged me an additional week when I had the vehicles for roughly five months. They argued with me and did not give me a refund. Then, I was rear ended while stopped at a light. And they were telling me that I still had to pay the thousand dollar deductible, even though it wasn't my fault at all. The representative **** ******* was not very understanding of the situation. And as far as I'm concerned, not very professional. I was able to get the insurance company to pay a thousand so I can pay them. Once I logged in to pay, the bill was a thousand fifty. So they just randomly tacked on fifty dollars out of nowhere. Very poor representation of a company overall.Review fromJenna B

1 starRENTERS BEWARE ?????? rented a vehicle from thrifty last March. Opted out of the insurance as I had my own travel insurance. Ended up with a chip in the windshield, I paid $433 upfront because they don’t work with insurance companies which is the cost of the windshield replacement (which seemed dramatic for a chip but they stated they HAVE to replace the entire windshield based on Alberta legislation because the chip was in the drivers sight line). Almost a year into fighting this claim with insurance I receive the repair final receipt from Hertz themselves which states the damage was repaired by having the chip fixed costing a total of $20.95. Which doesn’t line up with the total of $433 of the claim that the entire windshield had to be replaced. Now my insurance won’t reimburse the $433 as that is not the cost of damage. The will rob you blind…… literally. Do not trust them…. Rent elsewhere. Taking advantage of travels from out a province/country…. Not a good look. Happy to provide photos if anyone has doubts!Review fromShea J

1 starIf I could leave no stars I would. I booked a car for Friday for my Grandfathers funeral and the day before I get a call stating I do not have a car and there is nothing they can do. I then get an email confirming my reservation right after with new times so I asked the chat bot and they confirmed! So excited I got a car and then I call just in case and the same Trinity said i dont know why you are calling again Im the only one here and I already told you we have no cars. I asked for the manager as I am getting conflicting information and she states she is the ONLY ONE so theres nothing that can be done. I then went back to the chat to get contact information and all of the sudden it was cancelled. Im extremely upset and am now going to miss my grandpas funeral.Review fromDamon G

1 starDear Hertz Customer Relations Team, I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding an extremely unprofessional and unacceptable experience I had at your San Diego AirPort location on 11/26/25 12:30am. I had pre-paid for a rental, and upon arrival I was assisted by a front desk employee named Nadia (or a similar name). She was unable to explain why I was being denied the service and refund for my prepaid reservation, became disrespectful, and escalated the situation unnecessarily. She raised her voice at me in front of other customers, treated me with hostility, and even threatened to call security and deny me service simply because I requested to speak to a manager. Eventually, Manager Alonso assisted me and was professional, calm, and helpful, and he advised that I would be issued a full refund. Unfortunately, by that point, the experience had already been so hostile and humiliating that I chose to take my business elsewhere, even at a higher cost, due solely to the behavior of your front desk representative. I want to be very clear: I was willing to pay additional charges and had already inserted my card into the machine. The only reason this rental did not proceed was due to the disrespectful and aggressive behavior of your employee. This was by far the worst customer service experience I have ever had with any company. No customer should ever be treated this way. I am formally requesting the following: Immediate confirmation of my full refund A documented investigation into this employee’s conduct Assurance that corrective action will be taken so this does not happen to other customers This employee’s behavior reflects extremely poorly on the Hertz brand, and I strongly believe she should not continue working in a customer-facing role. Please confirm receipt of this complaint and the status of my refund as soon as possible as promised my the manager of the location.Review fromKatherine G

1 starI rented a vehicle for my boyfriend, who returned said vehicle the same day, before the close of business, to this location. Neither of us received an email confirming that the vehicle had or had not been returned, and, almost a month later, my credit card was charged nearly $900 for alleged late fees. And currently, they are trying to charge me an additional $2,500. Apparently, the stores records, conveniently, dont indicate that the key was returned, and the surveillance footage for the date of return has lapsed at this point. So, I am about to be forced to pay nearly $3,500 because someone at this store either didnt do their due diligence to properly record the return of the vehicle, or took it for a spin themselves and left the key in it after it had been returned. Not to mention, the lost vehicle was found in the parking lot of this store 24 days later, despite the fact that these vehicles are equipped with gps capabilities to deter theft. On top of all of this, Ive called customer service to dispute these charges, and these calls have only resulted in my waiting for a 3-5 business day response that never comes. DO NOT RENT A VEHICLE FROM THIS COMPANY.Review fromRay F

1 starHertz charged me two post-rental fees that they will not substantiate: 1) A “smoking/cleaning” fee. Hertz’s customer service (Katrina C.) admitted in writing they are “unable to provide photos or documentation” and that there were “no ashes to photograph,” only a claimed odor. No cleaning/ozone work order or invoice was provided. 2) A parking citation (City of Hollywood, FL) dated 08/13/2025 at 10:40 PM, marked “2nd violation.” Hertz’s Violation Processing repeatedly re-sent the same ticket PDF but refused to provide details of the “first” violation that caused the escalation (likely a prior renter). What I requested and did not receive: • Inspection checklist with timestamps and inspector names • Time-stamped photos/video of objective smoking evidence • Cleaning/ozone work order and invoice tied to my RA • For the ticket: RA start/end timestamps proving it fell within my rental, plate match to my RA, itemized charges, and the “first violation” info for the escalation Why this is improper: • Hertz’s own policy requires evidence of smoking; “odor-only” with no photos/docs and no cleaning invoice is not evidence. • The citation shows “2nd violation,” suggesting escalation not attributable to me; Hertz won’t prove it occurred during my RA or that the plate matches.Review fromBrenda P.

1 starThey are scamming Uber drivers customers by always claiming they owe money because of Hertz not properly doing their jobs . This Company needs to be investigated. They are doing it knowing these people need the cars to make a living, when they are taking people's money multiple transactions for the mistake of their own Hertz employees. Rude and disrespectful. Always threatening people to either pay extra every time or leave without the car and threatening to call police when you try to ask questions about why Hertz employees are causing all the mistakes. They are taking advantage of people and need to be investigated. It's all a money scam both Hertz and Avis rental cars for Uber Drivers.Review fromVanessa A B

1 starI rented my car at the Bush Int Airport in Houston. When receiving my car, I was told that I could pay up front for gas which would keep me from having to fill up, saving me some time. It was never explained to me that if I returned the car with a 3/4 full tank that I would still be charged for a complete tank. When I called in to see if I could get a refund because the tank was almost full, that was the time I was informed with the information. This information should have been given up front, and I would have never paid for the gas up front. THIEVES!!! This is a warning, if you decide to use Hertz, please don't pay up front for gas, you fill up, because they will not tell you, you won't get your money back!!! I will never rent from them again!!!
