1 star23 Dec I rented a car from Colorado Springs for a one-way trip to return at Austin Airport Hertz on 24 Dec. I returned the vehicle to Austin Hertz, the rep checked me in and received my receipt for the original rental charge. 26 Dec I saw a $300.00 charge and was told by Hertz customer service it was a cleaning fee. I tried calling Austin Airport Hertz but no one picked up. 30 Dec I called Hertz customer service and the rep said there was sand and dirt throughout the car requiring extensive cleaning and thus the $300.00 charge. I argued and the rep was going to contact Austin Airport Hertz for more data. I returned to Colorado Springs Hertz and they wouldn't update the rental with a dirty car but said it's Hertz’s policy to take pictures to back Hertz’s claim. I called Hertz customer service and asked for pictures supporting Austin Airport Hertz’s claim and the rep said there were no pictures. I asked to talk to a manager and the rep set up a phone call for a manager to call me on 31 Dec. That phone call never happened. I submitted 2 online survey’s on 27 Dec and 1 on 30 Dec providing my contact data / rental information so someone could contact me. I never heard back from Hertz. 2 Jan I submitted a question/complaint through Hertz’s. 3 Jan Hertz customer service repeated the claim of sand and dirt and upheld the $300.00 cleaning fee. I responded disputing the claim and asked for detailed pictures of Austin Airport Hertz’s claim. 5 Jan Hertz customer service said there were no pictures supporting Hertz’s claim and the cleaning fee would stand. 16 Jan I requested Austin Airport Hertz send me an invoice in a .pdf or Word file and pictures of the sand and dirt in the vehicle I rented. 21 Jan I've not heard back from Hertz customer service, I've not received an invoice, I've not received pictures justifying their claim, nor have I heard back from my posting on the Complaints Board. 27 January I filed a consumer complaint with the Texas Attorney General.Review fromSharon I.

1 starI wanted to review charges on my bill. I was told to call Kristina, a Customer Care Manager. She was rude and condescending. When I wanted clarification on an item, she told me I had to wait until she went through the whole bill. I indicated that it would be harder for me that way, but she said, "That is the way I do it," and kept talking. At one point, she actually hung up on me! If Hertz truly wants to be a customer orientated company with top service, this person should not be on their staff. We will never rent from Hertz again.Review fromSarah C

1 starTerrible customer service. Rented a car for my son for Christmas break. The car started having issues on his travel back and wasn’t safe to drive. Since all stores were closed they didn’t offer any resolution other than tow the car. We ended up driving to where he was and giving him our car. We received the final bill and not only was it several hinder dollars higher than the estimate, they charged us extra fees for not returning the car to original pickup even though it was not safe to drive. They also charged for it being returned late. After several emails the refunded a portion of the bill but still higher than the estimate. Lillibeth L. Has ignored our last several requests for her bosses contact and hasn’t even responded to our last email. Hertz is more concerned about money than their customer’s safety or even their own reputation. We rent cars on a regular basis and will NEVER give business to Hertz again. The greatest form of advertising is through word of mouth and we will definitely share our experience with everyone we know and discourage any business for this company.Review fromBrianna A

1 starIf I could give zero stars I would. Was charged $2,700 for returning the car to wrong location. Tried to work with Hertz on the reservation. They dont care about their customers only about money in their pockets. A joke of a company. Will never use them again and will tell every friend and family I have to never use Hertz to rent a car. Heaven forbid you make a mistake as a human, but Hertz will take all of your money especially two days before Christmas. The owner could have excelled with their customer service and worked with us but chose not to. Hope she feels good about herself and can sleep well at night!Review fromJames S

1 starOn November 9th, 2023 I rented a midsized car from Hertz for 5 days and paid for it up front as nonrefundable. I paid $306.19. My understanding of nonrefundable was that if I didn't show up it was my loss. A hurricane was coming through Daytona Beach, Florida where I was to pick up my rental. I was called a couple of hours before my pick up time of 3:30 and told the car wasn't available. They wouldn't be open. They were all going home. I asked if my money would be refunded and they said no. I wrote an email to Hertz and they again refused to pay me back or credit me. I was shocked at their response and felt I should warn others. Never do a nonrefundable rental with Hertz. I myself will never rent from Hertz again.Review fromStacy J

1 starThis company deserves O stars. I am currently at the *********** location stranded. To give you a backstory, I picked up from Hertz on ************************* in ***********.Where I was met with a very rude African American Branch manager and a very rude representative named *****. The customer service provided was AWFUL. They were extremely rude. The car car had some vibration when braking. After speaking to branch manager on *************************, he referred me to the airport location, stating he didn't have any vehicles available. But yet had tons parked in front of the building. I went to the airport yesterday evening (1/20/2023), she transferred me to a dodge charger that we discovered had MOLD, so before leaving with the vehicle, she switched me to the dodge charger that I had that had to be towed. Being that it is having some sort of electrical issues. I called roadside assistance to help. They sent me back to the airport to get an exchange with case number. I arrived to the airport to do the exchange. This is when I was told that being that I have switched 2 times prior(also for issues out of my control) that they couldn't switch me out. She informed me she spoke to management and they said I would need to Uber back home and visit the branch Monday. Leaving me with no way of transportation for the weekend. I also want to note that I was told I had to fill out an incident report even though this isn't my fault and there wasn't an incident. This left me without a car for the weekend. Come to find out the Branch Manager from ************************* put on the notes in my agreement to not switch me out. Then I got a call from the Branch Manager accusing me of misuse of a vehicle and was gonna "report me" to my insurance company. I will NEVER EVER do buisness here again.Review fromEric K.

1 starI rented a vehicle at ********************* and dropped it in *******. Hertz website assigned the drop off location to me and the time they told me to drop the vehicle was after closing time. I went back the next day and was told by the manager that the place I was told to drop the vehicle was for Lyft only. The manager said this problem kept occurring because of a website glitch. I told the manager this was my 2nd attempt at dropping the vehicle and not only would I not be taking the vehicle anywhere else but I deserved a day credit for the extra day. The manager agreed and gave me a new total for the rental crediting me about $100. The manager processed this wrong and I was charged an additional $700 I already paid for the rental in *************. I then went back to the ******* office and was told I was right and need to be credited the $700 but no manager was there to do it. I contacted Hertz customer service and was told no credit and the manager would not pick up the call. I persistently contacted HQ **************** and the ******* office and eventually got $200 less a credit than I deserved but didn't have the time or energy to fight anymore. This process took days and hours to accomplish and I am writing this review because I don't want this to happen to anyone else. I will never do business with Hertz again and I would advise anyone else to stay far away from Hertz.Review fromJulie W

1 starWe rented a car and prepaid months in advance for our retirement trip to Maui. When we arrived to our destination, we were left a voicemail informing us they had no cars and we should try another rental company. No apology, and no mention of our refund. We have been calling for weeks regarding our refund and were given a different story every time. Worst car rental company Ive ever dealt with.Review fromErin H

1 starThe employee from Andover Street Peabody Massachusetts location should not be employee of Hertz. Never in my entire life have I ever been so disrespected, accused of things that I did not do, had my already paid rental taken away from me. All while lying claiming that I smoked cigarettes in the vehicle. I have not smoked a cigarette in 6 years. So instead of a discussion this horrible employee snatch the keys charged me $400 and took away my rental that was not due back for another week or two. This employee left me stranded with no ride no means of transporting my items that I had in the rental car. Then lied like it was in his job description. WORST HERTZ RENTAL PLACE.
