I prepaid for a car to ensure my rental would be ready and available for the 10-day rental. When I arrived the place was packed and the last 7-passenger vehicle was rented to the lady in front of me (even though I prepaid). They wanted to give me a Dodge Durango but after inspection it could not be cleaned as it had dog p*** in it. I was then forced to upgrade to a Suburban as there were no other 7 passenger vehicles on the lot for an additional $90.00. I am not sure why I prepaid as my rental was still given to someone else that was unhappy with the car they rented. I was there over 90 minutes and when they finally brought the Suburban out, the employee apologized that the gas tank was on E and needed to go directly to the gas station. He assured me there would be a note on the contract and I could return the car with an 1/8 of a tank of gas. I now have the receipt and was charged an additional $37.49 for gas. I tried to call but the only option is to submit a receipt showing you filled the tank. My issue is that I returned the car with the gas that was in it when I started but still charged.

Never rent from HERTZ! We rented a car, asked to add insurance. Our card was charged-pending. Drive out the gate and the guy said there was a mistake but he would take care of it (unknown to us he cancelled the insurance!). 2 nights later, on vacation, stuck at 10 pm due to flat. Call roadside for help-no one will help, they say we dont have insurance-we have to call our own AAA at 3 am. Called beginning at 6am to get different car or find someone to help-no one. We borrow a ***** walked 3 blocks to fix tire to find out all tires are bald! We had to personally purchase 2 tires and lose a day and a half of our vacation dealing with this. A week later and no one has answers nor will they reimburse for the tires even though they put my family in danger sending us out in a car with 4 bald tires.

I had a 4 day rental from Hertz. When I picked up the car I declined their all inclusive toll option through PlatePass for $14.99/day. During my rental I took one toll, on the very last day of my rental, on my way to return the vehicle. This meant that I unknowingly "opted in" to the PlatePass option on the road. A week or two after my rental i received and additional bill from Hertz and PlatePass for $59.96. Taking that one toll at the very end of my rental meant that I was now being charged for every day of my rental even days where I didn't take any tolls. I was told none of this when I picked up the car. When I brought this up with Hertz I received absolutely no help. They cited two different toll policies and told me if I had an issue I would have to contact PlatePass. Hertz claims they have no control over tolls being billed through PlatePass even tough the bill I received from PlatePass had the Hertz logo on it. In 2013 Hertz settled a class action lawsuit against themselves and PlatePass for $11 million. That lawsuit alleged that Hertz was "conspiring with an electronic toll company to charge customers excessive fees". Hertz is clearly a dishonest company that just wants to find ways to add hidden charges to rentals after they have been returned.

Over 35 calls within 16 hours, left me stranded in middle of nowhere lied about getting a tow truck lift to get me to my hotel. Give them opportunity to next day after sleeping in the car which by the way is that EV and he got locked because there's no power they charged me $12.99 for that to open it for me remotely. So the next day they said they're sending a lift again 2 hours left I followed up they said he's been canceled that I canceled it which makes sense that I made over 35 calls. Every time I spoke with different agent different stuff was said every time I had to repeat it because they never took notes. When you get transferred to tech support some of those employees think car is something that you put in a sandwich. Probably one of the worst experiences and frustrations that I had ever in my life. I really don't understand how they're in business with this kind of customer service ...

If I could give Hertz and THRIFTY ZERO STARS I would. The dishonesty, lack of knowledge, and the lack of response from your team which lead to 2 girls being stranded without any ride to the airport, any way to return the rental vehicle, and stranded on the side of the highway- ultimately putting my life in danger. I reserved a Fuel Economy car from Thrifty (owned by Hertz), upon getting to my reservation there were no fuel cars left and only Electric Vehicles. The woman at the front desk informed me the battery took 32 min to charge, it was realistically over 24 hours. We were driving from PDX to La Pine Oregon. By the time we reached the Electrical Charging station, the car was on 3%- we charged the car for 3 hours and it only got us to 17%. As we needed tha car, we had to drive it down to another area in Oregon and back, on our way back we had to stop at another charging station- and turns out the charging station didn’t work. In an attempt to get it to one other charging station we found, the car ended up dying on the side of the road. We were unable to get any roadside assistance from Thrifty, and ended up having to take matters into our own hands by getting our own tow from AAA.We brought the car to the charging station that was working- but the battery was so dead it needed to be fully replaced or “jumped” by another EV/generator. At this point, feeling completely stranded- we asked Thrifty to pick up the EV with a tow, and drop off a fuel car to us. The manager at the Portland Branch said he would- then completely stopped answering us. I have attached my call log and texts to different branches, the manager, etc, and NOONE could help. We had no way to move the car and ended up having to Uber to another nearby airport and rent another car through Enterprise. It has now been WEEKS with no-one responding to my emails, continuous late charges, and my credit being impacted. If you think you will get customer service, jokes on you. Absolute TRASH company.

Thinking of renting a car? Walk quickly past Hertz and go to Enterprise. I reserved a car and when I got there, I was told they didn’t have one. I waited and they put my in an suv which I didn’t really want. Drove five feet and found a completely flat tire. They found another suv so I took that. Supposed to have Sirius radio…..didn’t! When I returned the car with the same amount of gas as was in it when I left, 3/4 tank. They charged me more than $80 for a quarter tank of gas. There were so many mistakes, goofs, errors, omissions, that it just isn’t worth the frustration!!! Go elsewhere

Made a reservation several weeks out. Got a call Friday evening at 5:10pm that I would not have a car for my rental at 8:00am the next morning. Called customer service. They offered a more expensive car and had to travel further. So I went with another agency. I called back about this and they gave me points. Another rental need came up and I was going to use the points, however, there was not enough to use. So I called and they ended up giving me a lot more to cover. Turns out I could not use points on my rental due to restrictions. The next time I need a rental, I discovered ALL my points were removed. I had a "0" balance. Since I did not rent a car within a year, they were removed. talked to 2 different supervisors and neither were willing to do anything about it. Terrible customer service!! I will not ever use Hertz again if I can help it.

I will never use this company again!!! Charged me a late fee and some crazy tax even though the car was returned on time. Proof of phone calls to company and time stamped receipts. Woman pn phone was incredibly rude and said they can't remove the charge. TOTAL SCAM! DONT TRUST WHAT THE EMPLOYEES TELL YOU! THEY OBVIOUSLY GET COMMISSION WHEN A CAR IS REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN RETURNED LATE WHEN IT ABSOLUTELY WASN'T. They said someone would contact me. No one has, and I bet they never will. Plenty of other, hopefully more honest, companies out there.

Avoid at all cost! There are so many things wrong with Hertz. Rude staff, unhelpful customer service, and it seems like they purposely make it difficult to reach someone to speak with. This was my first time trying to use Hertz and apparently I made the unspeakable mistake of making my reservation using a debt card. The lady at the location said I needed a credit card, which I didn’t have with me and when I asked why I was able to use a debt card to make the reservation, she said she wasn’t sure and told me to speak to customer service. I called customer service and they said the same thing. I read the entire forms of payment policy to the rep and asked her at what point it told me I couldn’t use a debt card. She said she wasn’t sure and put me on hold so that she could speak to someone… then she hung up on me. I called back, waited on hold again and explained everything to the second person. The second person also didn’t see where their own forms of payment policy said I couldn’t use a debt card. She said that this credit card only policy has always been there and there was nothing she could do. My last question to her was “if I’m a new customer, and your policy is not listed anywhere, then how was I suppose to know about it?” She said she wasn’t sure and is having a supervisor call me back. I will never use Hertz and I suggest the same to everyone else.
