The alleged amount of the debt is $743.84, auto ins. Premium with Progressive Ins. Policy renewed on 2/28/25. I made a payment of $174.61 on 2/28/25. I cancelled the policy effective 3/29/25 as I obtaining ins. with a different carrier. The debt amount was far above what a one month premium represented. After receiving notice from Caine & Weiner, I sent a proof of debt request asking for the dates of coverage that $743.84 represented (attached). I was provided a letter from Caine & Weiner stating policy start date, 2/28/25, policy cancel date, 3/29/25, and a payment of $174.61 on 2/28/25.(attached) Included was a copy of Progressive bill for $743.64, marked final bill, you no longer have insurance with us effective 3/29/25. (attached)Caine & Weiner provided no information to validate the ************* due and reported an outstanding collections account of $743.84 to all 3 credit bureaus. I was informed of the collections account reporting when I was informed I was disqualified from obtaining an *** mortgage. I needed this removed from my credit so I faxed a pay to remove requesting a call to discuss. I never received a call back. On 10/30/25, I spoke to a representative and a manager at Caine & Weiner. I requested a letter be drafted stating that they, Caine & Weiner, will remove the collections account, not just noted as paid, contingent on my paying the alleged debt. I was told by that they dont have nor will they draft such a letter and they will only provide me with a letter after I pay in full. With no good faith negotiations nor assurance that the collections account would be removed, I felt I had no option but to file this complaint. Debt collectors should not have the power to violate consumers rights and effect the ability to qualify for credit.Business Response

This is a formal complaint regarding a negative account that is being inaccurately reported on my credit file. I have already contacted both the creditor and the credit reporting agencies regarding this matter, but the issue has not been resolved. To date, they have failed to provide the following required documentation:A signed agreement or contract linking me to the debt An itemized statement showing how the balance was calculated Proof that they have the legal right to collect this debt Under FCRA Section 611 (15 U.S.C. 1681i), I am entitled to a full reinvestigation of any disputed information. If the furnisher or credit bureau cannot verify the accuracy of the account, they are required to remove or correct the entry.
