received a notice that I have a collection from CAINE WEINER on my credit report. It says it was opened on 10/30/2017 for $0.00 with account number starting in ******** that I am not aware of nor am I responsible for. I never went into business with this company or signed any agreements with them so they should not be reporting anything on my credit. This is a violation of my rights as a consumer according to the **** and FDCPA.I would like for this collection to be removed asap or I will file a CFPB and FTC report.Business Response

Tell us why here..Our office received an account from the creditor, ********************** with respect to this consumer in October 2017, for recovery of unpaid auto insurance premiums. Please note the balance due is not owed to Caine & Weiner. Initial correspondence was sent to the consumer at that time. There is no record of any mail return. The consumer spoke to our office in 2018 and wanted to settle the balance. The account was closed as 'Settled in Full'. Keep in mind a settlement is not complete absolution of the debt. The Progressive policy was cancelled in September 2017. Creditor records indicate coverage was provided for a 2010 Dodge Charger and a **** GMC Yukon/Denali on a Progressive policy ending in **** and that a payment made in July 2017 was insufficient to cover the premium balance due at the time of cancellation. The credit bureaus were updated to correctly reflect settlement. A partial payment does not facilitate complete removal from a consumer's credit report. Our office will gladly review steps necessary to have the entry completely removed from the credit reporting agencies with the consumer. A dispute investigation was conducted on the file in the past and the investigation indicated the charges were valid. There is no information from the consumer supporting a claim of fraud. Hello there is a debt reporting on my credit report in the amount of # ******. I have no known knowledge of this account and have contacted re this via bbb and also now directly, this charge is also reporting with another collection agency as well. I'm reaching out to see if this can be removed as this is hindering me from a home purchase, and I have no knowledge what so ever of this account and do not owe this debt. Tell us why here...The consumer provided a certified receipt dated 5-16-2022 as proof that he requested validation from our company. Our records indicate that the validation he requested was sent on 5-27-2022. There is no record of return mail in our database. Our office received an assigned account from the creditor, ********************** with respect to this consumer December 2020 for recovery of unpaid auto insurance premiums. Initial correspondence was sent to the consumer at that time. Please note the balance is not owed to Caine & Weiner. Our office collects on behalf of the creditor, Progressive. The contract was signed with Progressive. The Progressive policy was cancelled November 2020. Creditor records indicate coverage was provided for a 2012 Dodge Avenger on a policy ending in ********************************* October 2020 was insufficient to cover the remaining premium balance due at the time of cancellation. The consumer provided a certified receipt dated 3-5-2021 as proof that he requested information from our company. Our records indicate the consumer's letter was received and validation was sent to the consumer March 9, 2021, and again on March 18, 2022. The validation was sent to the address listed in the complaint. Our records further indicate that active disputes revealed that the disputed debt was valid. In the past, the consumer provided his driver's license and social security as proof of his valid identity. The information that we received from Progressive, matched the records he sent as proof of his identity. I recently acquired my credit report and found these accounts that I never opened, an overload of unknown addresses that I never resided I never live in another state outside of *******, inquiries I never made and even a different variations to my name such as INTERSTARS SALAAM. I have provided below some of the details. I may be a victim of identity fraud because of these entries in my credit report. I have contacted these creditors to make them aware of this. I am rejecting this response because:This company is in violation of my rights as a consumer, they have used my social security number without my consent by way of fraudulent use of pursuant 15 U. S. Code ****. They have knowingly submitted my personal information to consumer reporting agencies, the result of their deceptive behaviors have successfully created this tradeline on my credit report. This is aggravated identity theft under 18 USC 1028(a) as they have obtained my personal information by false pretense, making an extortionate extension of credit which shall be punishable under 18 USC 892. I demand you delete this tradeline across all consumer reporting agencies and no further action shall be taken on my end. Failure to comply then I will take the necessary steps in order to obtain justice due to your unfair and deceptive collection methods.
