I have been trying to unsubscribe from this mailing list for months and every time I do I continue to receive these emails. All I want is to be unsubscribed from this email list. I doubt this organization is even checking their unsubscribe requests. I don't have exact dates I requested to unsubscribe, but I've done so at least 4 times.

I have been unable to receive notifications in my email, as I had since the beginning of nextdoor in my area. Suddenly I can only see a very small group of members instead of the wider area I saw before my complaint to the BBB. After my account was suspended for 4 days (supposedly but actually much longer), I now cannot get notifications or responses and posts in my email account. It took a long time to find a way you change settings and my settings were all on "receive notifications." I really need to receive notifications and responses in my email account, ******************* Did Nextdoor do this to punish me for filing what I thought was a valid complaint with the BBB? I hope not. I hope this is an innocent glitch in the system that needs to be fine tuned and fixed. Please Nextdoor, can you fix my notifications and area of coverage as it was before the recent issue? I would greatly appreciate it. Many of my friends now post on Nextdoor instead of ******** and I'm missing important posts, like a dear friend that just died of covid...I don't want to miss the memorial.

NextDoor allows posters to post private information where hundreds can see it. This is not only public shaming, but against the law. I did not consent to having a poster place my address on NextDoor. This was not only wrong, but I feel it placed my safety in danger. I had to send several emails getting them to remove the post. The first responder stated that the post was not against their rules, which was false because public shaming IS against their rules. They should remove anything that is against the law, which in this case, it is. I asked a sincere question, "Why do you think it is OK to put someone's personal address on here?" and Next Door deleted the comment stating I was being "Uncivil" Excuse me? Since when is asking a simple question, wrong? They also flagged my account when I had the word, "geesh" in a comment. On what planet is this wrong? I do not understand why they think it is OK to bully the members. Is it lack of proper training? This should have been a no brainer. The comment having my address in it should have been removed within an hour of reporting it. I reported the poster as well, and it took them over 24 hours to do anything. My address could have easily been placed in ******* and anyone could get my name, etc. Next Door's lack of concern or action is criminal.

    Business Response

    Date: 10/13/2022

I can definitely see why the neighbor felt that his information was being made public, but the request was by another neighbor who was trying to alert the neighbor that their bunny was in the front yard. The neighbor posted the cross streets, not the address. Once the neighbor making the complaint let Nextdoor Support know it was his cross street, the post was removed.

As others have stated, Nextdoor fosters censorship based on political bias and a "good ol' boy" network of political groupthink. Due to my disagreement (I think) and a question I asked an individual neighbor about his local political endorsements I was removed from access to the platform without warning. I did not endorse any candidate but certainly my position of disagreement was clear but civil in manner. In the past, my posts would just be deleted if there was a disagreement I had with most anything concerning a certain political party, but now it's become exclusion from community participation. This has alarmed me to action as I believe it is not the right of the creator of a public forum to selectively exclude individuals based on their values that are within our legal parameters; just as someone who builds or donates a community public park can't use their position to exclude individuals based on anything other than criminal behavior. This is definitely climbing up a slippery slope that *** seem benign on a smaller level, but there is a case to be made along with money to those who can sway public opinion and votes. After all, they serve a board of directors and investors. Could political advertisements on Nextdoor come in the form of censorship of the lowest bidder? Wouldn't be new, that's how Yelp monetizes business ratings and reviews. If they are to continue advocating for a political party as they have in my experience, that would make them subject to National and local campaign finance regulations; there really isn't any grey area. Though they are not transparent about why or what they exclude participants for I have a dozen examples that have happened to me.

    Complaint: 18200785

I am rejecting this response because:

Nextdoor is continuing to mask and hide blatant political censorship and bias through subjective smoke and mirrors. There was no foul language, calling of names or anything I discussed that I would consider "uncivil". After all, uncivil is a very subjective word, especially when it comes to politics. Furthermore, their lack of transparency in describing the nature of what they deemed as "uncivil" points to their unwillingness to be subject to oversight themselves. The kind of "do as I say, not as I do" behavior that most entities that censor exhibit in order to continue their abuse of power. Nextdoors structure of censoring and banning or suspending of individuals comes with another censor; the individual, if let back, cannot talk about their suspension or they will be banned or suspended again! Why would that be needed if Nexdoor had valid reasons for suspending people?

    Sincerely,

    *************************

    Business Response

While we don't encourage foul language, normal usage isn't a violation of Nextdoor's Guidelines.

But it's comments like this that aren't constructive and are uncivil in discourse:

"Ya! Those math numbers are goody googly. Bad guns go boom boom. Make society bad bad."

There are many of these. The member can rejoin Nextdoor by logging into their account.

    Customer Answer

    Complaint: 18200785

I am rejecting this response because:

The quote typed out (not screenshot because it's been censored) by Nextdoor staff was removed from the public's visibility along with numerous other posts that don't meet their company's internal definitions of... whatever they want to define uncivil as? Furthermore, if it was removed 2 weeks ago. How does Nextdoor still have record of the censored portion? By removed, does it mean removed and put on file and collected as data, data that everyone else can't view? Food for thought. By being a private company providing a public space, they believe the public domain should be governed by Nextdoor's belief system, whatever it may be. I still don't understand how the quote they provided could be deemed as uncivil; and they still haven't explained how it meets an (their) uncivil threshold. Does Nextdoor believe in free thought? Expression? Do they think they can decipher tone and inflection through simple text? Maybe their next CEO is full heartedly sympathetic to the Branch Davidians. What governs their power to dictate and erase public thought and conversation.

Beyond the obvious overreach, Nextdoor has set the precedence for negligence. While providing a public space represented on a digital platform, they have offered to replace communication and emergency alert systems already in place. Nextdoor offers to alert and connect the community to community leaders and potentially life saving information when the community needs it. Unless you're blocked for putting a comment up they believe is uncivil.

    Sincerely,

Next Door is allowing the campaign manager of our mayor to be a moderator on Next Door. He is suppressing posts that are negative to his candidate, the mayor, and getting accounts suspended if any one speaks negatively about her, or refutes the outright lies that are in her current campaign mailers. Our mayor is currently dealing with corruption allegations (our city manager is currently indicted on felony fraud and embezzlement charges). I have been posting to keep the community informed. First, someone tried to report that I didnt live in the city (I do). Then I had my account disabled a few days ago that I might have a fake account/fake name. So I verified my identify with an image of my drivers license.Yesterday I posted about vicious disinformation mailers our mayor sent out against her opponent claiming she was lenient on a ******. This was disgusting because not only was it untrue, but the woman she smeared had been one of the first to speak out publicly against the injustice of the light sentence, and she herself is also victim of violence (her father was murdered when she was a child, which made her an orphan and put her in the ****** system). This lie and smear campaign was unconscionable and I said so. My account is now disabled due to bullying. Keep in mind, I was setting the record straight about a public figure, not a neighbor, and fighting misinformation that was unethical and cruel. My account is clearly being targeted.Nextdoor claims their policy is Discussions related to Local politics/elections are allowed anywhere on Nextdoor. However, they are allowing a moderator with clear conflict of interest to suppress 1st amendment protected speech and put neighbors in fear of saying anything negative against a political public figure. I had a neighbor tell me they left next door out of concerns the moderators can even see direct messages. This is a police state. This moderator needs to be removed.

On October 7 of this year Nextdoor.com wrongly suspended my account indefinitely for cutting and pasting a community email from our local PDregarding the arrest of a homeless woman dealing fentanyl out of her RV, which was parked near a park and playground. I wish to be reinstated!

I am rejecting this response because:I was never suspended for being uncivil  to other neighbors and that was not the reason you gave me for suspending me. You quoted my post regarding the criminal element that lives in RVs that are illegally parked in public streets all over town, a criminal element that the local PD has sent two community emails about in three days, a post that never referred to any neighbor by name, and you said THAT was why I was suspended. Stop lying.

First my account was suspended for 15 days without disclosure of reasons. Now it is deactivated presumably because I am using a fake name. I have been on the site for years. My name was legally changed by court order. Nextdoor can easily verify my name using the county tax records available to all online. This is just the latest harassment tactic in a long line of harassing moves by Nextdoor. The reasons are either not given or change constantly in an attempt to sensor me. I have been singled out by a local "review team" member for targeted harassment for some time. I have complained directly to Nextdoor on their listed phone number and voice message system. No punishment or corrections for the offender but constant abuse and harassment for me.

    Business Response

Nextdoor aims to provide a safe, online space where neighbors can discuss the types of things they'd share in person. To facilitate this trust and community, both our Community Guidelines and Member Agreement require that every member use their full, real name on Nextdoor. You can read the full policy here: https://help.nextdoor.com/s/article/About-using-real-names?language=en_US.

Within that policy though, we have privacy settings that allow for neighbors to control how they want their neighbors to see them, name included. Neighbors can now show first name and last initial to their neighborhood. You can read more about those settings here: https://help.nextdoor.com/s/article/Manage-your-privacy-settings?language=en_US.

The member was reported as using a false last name and the member did change his last name on the website in July. The member's email address also has a different last name. All we need is proof from the member that his real last name is what he changed it to and his account will be restored. We've requested that information from him through Nextdoor Support.
