On two occasions in the past year, two users on the website NextDoor have publicly shamed me and attempted to malign my character. In both instances, the local review team ruled in the favor of the people breaking the rules. About a year ago, a user named ************** asked me if I was participating in stealing parcels off porches. She was apparently told to remove the first post and did. Then she came back and made the comment, "but i was only asking you if you were stealing the packages". Again, making a public statement that would imply I am participating in criminal activity. Despite reporting the second instance, the local review team did not remove the post or take any action that would protect my reputation. The second instance was the last two weeks. I responded to a message posted, and a user named ************************* heavily criticized me and tried to publicly shame me for my response, because she thought I was responding to a message someone else posted. I explained to her and reported her post, and my explanation was removed, but her attempt at shaming me remains posted. It is clear there is favoritism, and the local review committee have their favorites. There is no process in place to elevate complaints beyond the local review team to NextDoor's corporate office.

Both this neighbor the neighbor he's reporting were violating the guidelines toward each other. All of the reported comments that violated the guidelines have been removed. If the neighbor believes there are more, he should reach out to Nextdoor Support, which he can here: ****************************************************************************

I live in ****** ** in the Cowichan Valley. Our Maple Bay neighbor to neighbor has been conglomerated with ************* **. These two areas are separated by a least 50 miles and separated by a huge sea inlet. It is annoying as heck to keep on getting posts asking for help or things on offer from a place that is at least a half-day journey away. Please separate Maple Bay/North Cowichan from *************/Deep Cove.

I am rejecting this response because:

The suggested link is not valid for my complaint. Local 'leads' have tried to sever the two  geographically distant areas repeatedly with no success. The web link provided has a bunch of FAQs but no way to access someone at Nextdoor who can actually address the issue. There are many in my area who are similarly fed up and who don't seem to be able to delete their contact information from this website. I haven't tried to delete my information yet but that will be my next response.

    Sincerely,

On July 3, 2023 my Nextdoor account was disabled for an "alleged" violation of not using my "real name" with a message to contact Customer Support, to verify my "real name" and that my account would remain disabled for 48 hours!! This was a false report by a neighbor (who knows my name is real). I have sent sufficient information to verify my last name is my real name - yet I am punished due to someone's malicious reporting. Why does Nextdoor not have a system in place whereby it verifies first with a Nextdoor Lead to see if my name is real. My Nextdoor Leads know me personally and know that my name is legal and real! Why does Nextdoor not take punitive action against a neighbor maliciously reporting another neighbor as "not real?"Otherwise neighbors could repeat people they don't like with this "fake name" report and cause distress to neighbors who are using their LEGAL REAL NAMES!!Neighbor sell stuff (from their homes, such as couches, trailers, clothes, baby clothes) and when a neighbor maliciously & wrongly reports another neighbor as having a fake name, this causes the neighbor to not be able to enjoy the services on Nextdoor, despite following all of the rules explicitly.Action needs to be taken against a malicious reporting neighbor as this interferes with good neighbors and good community interaction, if a spiteful neighbor can willfully make up lies about a neighbor's legal name!I have provided ALL evidence of my LEGAL NAME, yet I'm punished waiting on **************** (over the July 4th weekend, too), because of a LIE made up by a neighbor about my legal name.

    Complaint: 20270911

I am rejecting this response because:
Nextdoor Customer Support does NOT just randomly pick any neighbor account and randomly make up that the neighbor's name is not REAL & disable it.
It requires another neighbor to report me to Customer Support with a false claim that my name is not real, then Customer Support takes action.
Does Nextdoor really want its users to believe that Customer Support just picked my account out of the blue and disabled it on accident, stating my name is not REAL?

    Sincerely,

On April 6th 2023 I contacted a handyman from the nextdoor platform. We meet that same day. We discussed the scope of work and agreed on a price. The handyman needed a down payment so he could order a pallet of stone from a local nursery for installation. I sent it to him through zelle. He never showed up with the pallet of stone and never installed. In text he gave me one excuse after another. On may 13th ********************************* He took my money and ran. On July 1st ******************************************************************************************************************************* stated that I had proof through pictures, ***** receipts and text messages to back my statements. I warned neighbors of this dishonest handyman on Nextdoor. I stated that there are good handyman/ women on this site and this person was not one of them.My post was taken down for public shaming even though I had proof that my statement was indeed fact. One would think that Nextdoor would be concerned that their platform was/is being used to steal money from people. It appears that instead of asking for my proof and suspending the handymans account indefinitely they chose to just delete my post which ultimately protects bad people allowing them to victimize more users. Also note before the post was deleted other neighbors had commented that the handyman took their money as well. Harboring dishonest handymen not only is allowing them to take advantage of other users it is a disservice to the good handyman/ women on the site and the community/ neighborhood in which Nextdoor claims to service. This very well could be a local problem by the monitoring staff but its still corporates problem that needs to be addressed before it discredits the whole platform.

I am rejecting this response because:
I did post about services not received. This man will take your down payment for materials and run. I also stated that I have texts and ***** receipts to prove my statements. I closed my post with there are good handymen/ women on Nextdoor and this guy isnt one of them. We need to protect each other from these crooks. *****= a person who is dishonest or a criminal- which I can prove that this man is both. I only stated facts to warn the Nextdoor community. Since my post Ive seen other post that state thieves, son of a b****** trying to s**** me and biggest crooks all of which have directed at one person or a business and the post were not taken down. My statement was that we need to protect ourselves from these crooks which includes every bad handyman on nextdoor. There is no personal attacks as nextdoor is claiming. Nextdoor is a go to place for handyman, nextdoor should have a format to investigate complaints and remove bad handyman and praise good ones to protect the community. With my claims and proof provided this would be an easy open and shut case. This handyman doesnt belong on this site and shouldnt be protected.
    Sincerely,

My account was suspended because of another person on here lied about my items being spam The person who reported me a nasty comments on my items and turns out they were on the review team for this app who abused her power This cost me two sales from customers who are waiting to come that day, and I cannot talk to them The app does not function, right I always try to delete my items before I repost them or discount it so I could get to the top of the page most of the time the app wont let me delete my items or send me back to the top of the list or just kicks me out if I can do anything also, they really quick to ban me, but they take up to ********************** with. It only cost me money. I feel harassed and discriminated against **** because one person on a review team what is satisfied with the item she bought and lied on me

Nextdoor continues to deactivate accounts based on terms or policies that they themselves cannot explain. Also, there is no way to appeal any decision to their banning or deactivation of accounts. They do not apply their policies equally.

Nextdoor keeps closing my account because I am reporting individuals who violate their policies, but whose politics they agree with. Nextdoor pretends I have violated their policies in order to suspend my account, thereby allowing their favored politics, despite the fact that these posts violate their own policies, to remain on their site. I want Nextdoor to take an unbiased, politically neutral approach to enforcing their own policies, and stop engaging in selective enforcement based on politics.

This neighbor is suspended because they are reporting content that doesn't violate our guidelines.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 07/17/2023

Whether or not content is a violation of your guidelines is a matter of opinion, not fact. I reported content that I genuinely felt violated their own stated guidelines. They simply disagreed, due to political reasons.
Nowhere in their guidelines does it state a user may be suspended for reporting content that does not violate their guidelines, only that a user can be suspended for "retaliatory reporting", which I have not done, and which the business has never shown me to have done.
Therefore, the business is violating their own terms of service by suspending me for specious reasons.

    Best,

I am rejecting this response because:
I'm responding to the business, Nextdoor.com, in this case.

Everything the business stated is either incorrect or a lie.

    1) They haven't suspended me "many" times.
    2) They haven't "had" to suspend me. They have chosen to.
    3) The article they reference has no bearing on my case. It states,
"Neighbors can report a post for violating ******************** Guidelines. Local moderators (i.e. Neighborhood Leads and Review Team members) or Nextdoor staff may then choose to moderate this content."
(Note, it reads that moderators may "choose" to moderate this content.)
"Please do not: Engage in retaliatory reporting. Inappropriate reporting is a violation of our Community Guidelines."
(Note, it does not define what is "inappropriate reporting...", so there is no way for anyone to know. However, "inappropriate reporting" follows immediately after "retaliatory reporting", which leads one to believe they may be one and the same.
    4) I have not engaged in retaliatory reporting or inappropriate reporting, as listed under Nextdoor's own terms of service. Nobody at Nextdoor has shown any evidence at all that I have.
    5) Ironically, those who reported me for "inappropriate reporting" are themselves engaged in "retaliatory reporting", but suffer no consequences, since they share the far-left politics of Nextdoor's moderation team.

In short, Nextdoor has failed to provide any evidence that any of my reporting (which reports racism or racial profiling) has been inappropriate or retaliatory.

    Sincerely,
