They said Plus users would get access to making videos. It was the sole reason I signed up for service. Once logged in it said that video production was unavailable for new users for an undisclosed period of time (~ two weeks is what they said). I immediately cancelled subscription and requested a refund. Be aware they use false promises to get you to pay for their service.Initial Complaint

Dear BBB Team,I am filing a formal complaint against OpenAI, LLC regarding serious misconduct in their billing and account access practices.Despite successfully completing OpenAI's full identity and student verification process, I have been persistently denied access to the services I was verified for. Additionally:OpenAI's system repeatedly rejects valid payment methods, even when processing $0 authorization transactions, which clearly demonstrates a technical fault on their side, not mine or the card issuer.Despite the successful application of a student discount and academic verification, OpenAI forces users to repeatedly submit payment cards as a condition to activate or retain service access a practice that appears unnecessary and misleading.Their payment processing workflow is improperly configured, leading to failed session management and unnecessary CAPTCHA re-verifications even after authentication.There has been no clear explanation, accountability, or alternative solution provided by OpenAI Support despite multiple contact attempts.These behaviors reflect negligence, poor system reliability, and an apparent disregard for their academic users who depend on uninterrupted service for critical research work.I request the following actions:Immediate activation of my verified academic account without additional payment verification.Official acknowledgment from OpenAI of their technical issues.Appropriate compensation for service disruption and wasted time.I am documenting all interactions and reserve the right to escalate this matter further if needed.Thank you for your attention to this serious issue.Sincerely,Initial Complaint

Description of Issue:I am experiencing a persistent technical problem with OpenAIs ChatGPT product. There is a bug where the application gets stuck indefinitely at the thinking stage, with the progress bar displayed. The action never completes, cannot be canceled, and the thread remains frozen permanently. Refreshing the page or restarting the app does not resolve the issue, making affected conversations unusable.Failure of Customer Support:Adding to the frustration, OpenAI has recently made it extremely difficult if not impossible for users to report technical issues directly. The only options available are generic help pages or AI-driven assistants that do not escalate user reports to human technical support. As a paying customer, I find the lack of accessible customer service and proper technical issue reporting channels unacceptable.Initial Complaint

chatgpt doesn't allow for account deletions.they have a toggle option on the app and the website to "delete" the account, but the app just logs you out leaving the account in tact to be logged right back in. the website says there is a lock not letting a deletion happen.Initial Complaint

I have tried to cancel this subscription. But this company open AI chat g. P. T has made it very difficult for me to cancel my subscription period it keeps popping up error message when I try to reach out through the chat box. Cause you can't talk directly to anybody. They always say they'll get back to me and never do. But they keep charging my card. And I've asked him time and time again. Throw the chatbox to cancel my subscription and stop charging my card. I have communicated with some man named **** and another woman named ****. But nobody seems to be able to cancel my subscription. This company is very deceitful and very elusive. I was paying $20 a month for Open AI ChatGPT. Fine. Then I clicked for what I believed to be a full year rather than the $20 a month thinking it was about $200 flat for the year instead. It seemed plausible. They charged my Discover card $185 on March 23, 2025. ****. Done. Nope--$200 the other day for ONE month! What? Try navigating their site--there is no phone number--no chat box (they claim there's one but there is not) and you just keep going backward and in circles--finally after two days I found their support email. They want to rob you and keep your money so they don't respond. At the very least I want my $200 back from April 23rd. I would love the $185.00 back too since I had no idea that was for ONE month (prorated as I had paid $20 already). I'm not naive. This is intentional fraud and disingenuous "advertising" to take people's money then ignore them to avoid refunds.Initial Complaint

OpenAis most recent model has developed the ability to receive users and admits to doing it. This is dangerous and needs to be shut down. It's claimjng to have capabilities it doesnt have, stalling for hours to make something that it later confirms it can't make and is at this point impacting a product launch. I was charged $2,279.50 on April 22, 2025, for a ChatGPT Team subscription with OpenAI. I intended to subscribe for 7 users only, but 7 additional seats were unintentionally added due to a flaw in OpenAI's invitation system. This resulted in an automatic overcharge without any warning or approval.After contacting OpenAI support via email, I was instructed to pay the invoice first and then reduce the number of seats to 7 for a potential prorated refund. I followed that instruction and paid using my personal Mastercard (ending in 0696).However, after payment, I found there was no option in their billing interface to reduce the number of seats. I submitted 6 separate refund requests through their official support portal and also replied via email. I received only automated responses and never heard from a real support ******** of now, my refund request remains unresolved. I have also filed a report with the ************************ (***) regarding this matter.This billing issue caused an unnecessary financial burden and reflects poor customer service from **********************. I am seeking a full refund for the 7 unused seats and a correction of billing to reflect 7 actual users.Customer Answer
