I created an account with stamps.com to evaluate whether or not I'd use their service. I did not sign up intending to pay them any money on an ongoing basis just for having that account.
At no point in the sign process was such payment clearly stated. Upon creating an account, an email was sent confirming this and again no clear indication of payment was indicated.
And since that creation stamps.com have been taking payments from my bank that I did not agree to. This is outrageous and feels like a scam as nowhere in the process is it made clear that such payments would be required.
Clearly many people agree as there are many many such complaints about people feeling swindled filed on various internet sites including this one.
Last night I canceled the account once I realised what was happening, but I have been charged $191.10 in the meantime (charges I never would have agreed to pay) plus they are about to charge me again for the privilege of closing an account I'd never have opened in the first place had their charges been made clear.
It is very disappointing that the law permits this kind of intentionally duplicitous behaviour on the part of this company and others like them.
I have attached a subset of transactions from my bank account all relating to stamps.com for the charges they took from me.
    Thank you for your assistance.

    Dear ****,
Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate and consider your feedback and take our customers' concerns very seriously. Normally, a customer is responsible for all service fees. However, rest assured that we have issued a courtesy refund totaling $210.21 on 1/24/23. We show that your account is closed.
We show that a Stamps.com account was fully activated on 2/22/22. We show that a Welcome Email confirming activation had been sent to you on that day. We hear your concerns and we always aim to fully disclose our fees before any account can be created. We do not advertise or offer a free or pay-as-you-go service, and as disclosed and explained during registration, we do charge a monthly fee after the 4-Week Trial Period, which ended on your account on 3/23/22. We show your account was closed on 1/22/23.
We allow all of our customers to evaluate our features without signing up for an account. We provide extensive FAQs and demos in order to answer any queries that a potential customer may have in regards to the Stamps.com service and software. When you visit our website, you have the option of viewing various pages that offer more information and background on our postage printing product. You do not have to register in order to receive information about Stamps.com.
To create any Stamps.com account, you must complete the multi-step registration process at www.stamps.com.
Registration requires you to enter your name, mailing address, phone number and credit card information, in addition to creating a username and password and selecting two security questions. Also, you must review and agree to our Terms and Conditions:

    www.stamps.com/conditions
To best serve our customers, we provide the terms for Stamps.com accounts during the registration process. Stamps.com accounts cannot be created without customers indicating that they've read the terms and conditions. During registration for a Stamps.com account, we explain that your credit card will not be charged unless you continue past the four-week trial or buy additional postage and Online Store products.

In addition, immediately after sign-up, new customers are sent a Welcome Email with the same terms outlined, along with information about the monthly flat rate fee if you choose to continue past the trial month.
The fee we charge gives you access to services of the Post Office and the license to print official U.S. postage. It's a flat fee that is not determined by how much postage you print. Stamps.com is a vendor licensed by the USPS, and all paid postage goes directly to the Post Office. In order to offer our standard service, we do charge a monthly subscription fee.

We never charge people without their full agreement and awareness during our online registration process. Our service fee is not based on usage or activity. The monthly subscription service fee that Stamps.com charges is for access of the Stamps.com software, which allows customers to print postage from the comfort of their home or small office using just a PC and a printer. Our service is a monthly subscription service so it's not based on usage of the software, but rather on having access to using it.
We believe in full disclosure, and information about our fees is available on our website, interface, Terms, and FAQs.
During registration for a Stamps.com account, we explain that your credit card will not be charged unless you continue past the four-week trial or buy additional postage and Online Store products. We believe the monthly fee provides a good value for customers who need to print not only just Priority and Priority Express Mail shipping labels, but also Shipping Labels for other classes (we support First Class, Media Mail, and Parcel Select Labels), NetStamps, and postage printed directly on envelopes. We do have a wide variety of customers - over a million customers- who enjoy the experience of not having to rely on expensive postage meters and who require more functionality and features than what other PC Postage services currently offer.

On our main page at www.stamps.com, we explain our fees under the section "Here's how it works..." During the registration process we do make sure that our customers are aware of the monthly service fee in that we have it detailed on the webpage titled "Why do you need my credit card information?"

We do this so that customers can see the price before they complete the registration process. We also have the billing policy detailed in our Terms and Conditions at:

    www.stamps.com/conditions

Customers are required to review and agree to these Terms prior to completing registration.
In addition, potential customers can review and compare our pricing plans, as well as other important information, to determine which plan best meets their mailing needs via the Learn More section which is accessible from the Stamps.com home page. We offer FAQs that answer questions about pricing, plans, and specific and general benefits of using Stamps.com:

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I appreciate that a refund has been promptly provided and what I have asked for personally has been provided, ie a refund.
However the company process whereby payment information is obscurely provided and intentionally not made clear should be changed. I'm sure that there are many more people out there paying these fees who are unaware of them and for this reason I find this company's behaviour still unacceptable.
Thank you for your help in making it possible to file this complaint.

I signed up on the Stamps.com website to purchase stamps is what I thought. I could not go through the process because it was too confusing. Now all of the sudden I have a $19.00 charge on my credit card and I have no idea what it is. I never received stamps and was not able to finish setting up the account. Stamps.com is a total scam subscription service. They hide the terms from you so deeply when making an initial order that you can only see the charges on a card statement. You can't even see your charge history on their site. There's no email telling you a trial period is over and you will be charged going forward and no monthly email about a pending charge. This is so shady! I ordered some stamps a year ago and have just discovered it's cost me approximately $230 for the pleasure of it. BEWARE!

Stamps.com misleads consumers. They advertise that you can print stamps from your home if you buy blank stamps and upload money to your account. What they leave out is that they're going to charge you $17.99 per month, even if you don't use your account. When I signed up, I told him I mail a couple things a few times per year. For some reason they decided to sign me up for the most expensive plan. I wasn't even told there was options. They had me paying for three things: The blank stamps, the postage to print onto the blank stamps, and a monthly fee just to be a customer. Not to mention, I also have to pay for my own ink with the printer I bought. This is very shady and misleading. It's much cheaper just to go to the grocery store and buy a pack of stamps. Or straight to the post office. They have taken money from me every corner and when I called to complain, they did not even offer me an apology or a refund. They definitely don't put the customer first. I couldn't even understand the foreigner who answered my call. I had to ask him to speak slowly because his accent was so thick. Normally I don't mind accents, but this was already extremely frustrating. I tried to log back in to take a screenshot of all the payments I've made because it asks below for supporting documents. But it looks like they've kicked me out of their system so I no longer have access. Like I said, they are very shady! I made this phone call about 45 minutes ago. They don't waste any time.

During registration for a Stamps.com account, we explain that your credit card will not be charged unless you continue past the four-week trial or buy additional postage and Online Store products. We believe the monthly fee provides a good value for customers who need to print not only just Priority and Priority Express Mail shipping labels, but also Shipping Labels for other classes (we support ****************** Mail, and Parcel Select Labels), NetStamps, and postage printed directly on envelopes. We do have a wide variety of customers - over a million customers- who enjoy the experience of not having to rely on expensive postage meters and who require more functionality and features than what other PC ******* services currently offer.

    Dear *****,
Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate and consider your feedback and take our customers' concerns very seriously. Normally, a customer is responsible for all service fees. However, rest assured that we have issued a courtesy refund totaling $239.76 on 1/26/23. We show that your account is closed.
We show that a Stamps.com account was fully activated on 2/4/13. We show that a Welcome Email confirming activation had been sent to you on that day. We hear your concerns and we always aim to fully disclose our fees before any account can be created. We do not advertise or offer a free or pay-as-you-go service, and as disclosed and explained during registration, we do charge a monthly fee after the 4-Week Trial Period, which ended on your account on 3/5/13. We charge this fee regardless of the account's usage.
We show your account was closed on 11/1/22. We understand your concerns on the account closure, and apologize for the inconvenience. In our research into this issue, the account closure may have been a final attempt to collect in arrears fees that had not been paid. Unfortunately, once an account is closed, we cannot reopen it. If you would still like to use our services, we would encourage you to open a new account with us.

If we can help further, please let us know.

Stay away from this scam. I created an account with the intention of mailing one package which I laid postage for on stamp.com. For the past 10 months they have been charging me ***** a month which I never agreed to and I have no idea why. My account is now cancelled but if I do not receive a refund I will be reaching out to the states attorney next. These are very unethical charges.

I signed up for a Stamps.com trial account on 06/10/2022 to print a single label. I was never informed that I would be charged a monthly fee of $19.65 and I never received a receipt or confirmation of any sort of monthly subscription. It appears that Stamps.com tricks customers into signing up for a monthly billed account and hope that they don't realize it.

After going over my bank statements, I found that I have been charged seven times without realizing it. From similar BBB complaints, I guess it has happened frequently to other customers.

I used stamps.com to mail a package one time close to a year ago. They have been charging me $17.99 a month every month since and I just caught it. I logged into my stamps.com acct and there are no documents or statements of there ever being a monthly charge. They are clearly hidden. Only the charge for the one package I mailed shows up anywhere in my acct.

I just realized I was paying $17.99 per month merely for the "membership" and then was being charged additionally for shipping costs - as others have stated I never received any confirmation of this agreement nor receipts for the monthly charges, for a service that I only rarely used during Covid lockdown as a replacement for visiting the post office. I am now retired and can ill afford this needless expense. I have called customer service to cancel my account but others should beware of this deceptive business practice!
