I just received a notice from stamps.com that I am supposedly behind $219.89 in service fees. I had no idea that a stamps.com account required a monthly service fee. I rarely use stamps.com and would never, ever have signed up for the service had I known that I would be charged $19.99/mo. irrespective of how much postage I actually bought from them. I want the $219.89 wiped out and assurance that no effort to collect this amount will be made, and that it will not be reflected on my credit history.Business Response

Dear *******,
Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate and consider your feedback and take our customers concerns very seriously. We do consider the fees charged to be valid and appropriate. However, we have zeroed out the outstanding, unpaid balance of $222.47 on the account.
We show that an account was fully activated with 6/19/20. We do fully disclose our billing structure and fees prior to creating an account, and all users must select a pricing level and agree to our fees prior to account creation.
To create and fully activate a Stamps.com account, our multi-step registration process must take place at our website of www.stamps.com Registration requires you to enter your name, mailing address, phone number and credit card information,in addition to creating a username and password and selecting two security questions. Also, you must review and agree to our Terms and Conditions:
www.stamps.com/conditions
We do show a Welcome Email was sent to the email address on 6/19/20. We do disclose our fee information at our site and during registration. We are not set up for one-time purchases and we do not advertise or offer a free or pay-as-you-go service. We hear your concerns and we always fully disclose our fees before any account can be created. We don't advertise or offer a free or pay-as-you-go service, and as disclosed and explained during registration, we do charge a $19.99 monthly fee after the 4-Week Trial Period, which ended on this account on 7/18/20.
Our service fee is not based on usage or activity. The monthly subscription service fee that Stamps.com charges is for access of the Stamps.com software, which allows customers to print postage from the comfort of their home or small office using just a PC and a printer. Our service is a monthly subscription service so its not based on usage of the software, but rather on having access to using it. Customers always have the option of reviewing their Account Fees in the Reports section of their software, which is available at all times under the Expenses tab.
We believe in full disclosure, and information about our fees is available on our website, interface, Terms, and FAQs.
During registration for a Stamps.com account, we explain that your credit card will not be charged unless you continue past the four-week trial or buy additional postage and Online Store products. We believe the monthly fee provides a good value for customers who need to print not only just Priority and Priority Express Mail shipping labels, but also Shipping Labels for other classes, NetStamps, and postage printed directly on envelopes. We do have a wide variety of customers - over ************* customers- who enjoy the experience of not having to rely on expensive postage meters and who require more functionality and features than what other PC ******* services currently offer.
On our main page at www.stamps.com, we explain our fees under the section "Here's how it works..." During the registration process we do make sure that our customers are aware of the monthly service fee in that we have it detailed on the webpage titled Why do you need my credit card information?
We do this so that customers can see the price before they complete the registration process. We also have the billing policy detailed in our Terms and Conditions at:
www.stamps.com/conditions
Customers are required to review and agree to these Terms prior to completing registration.
In addition, potential customers can review and compare our pricing plans, as well as other important information, to determine which plan best meets their mailing needs via the Learn More section which is accessible from the Stamps.com home page. We offer FAQs that answer questions about pricing, plans, and specific and general benefits of using Stamps.com:

Dear ****,
Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate and consider your feedback and take your concerns very seriously. We apologize for any misunderstanding regarding our services. Stamps.com is a PC Postage Vendor licensed and approved by the ***** We are a separate company from the **** itself.
If you are receiving catalogues for postage stamps from the ****, we recommend contacting **** directly. In the meantime, we have submitted a request for you on our end to remove your information from Stamps.com records.

The only reason why I'm accepting the response is because they're going to remove my info. regardless. Otherwise, I would have rejected it and shown a picture where the sender of this catalogue is from stamps fulfillment center. Upon doing research this is stamps.com.
There was no misunderstanding on my part. I believe whoever wrote the response didn't understand that their company does send out these catologues. Yes it has **** on it but the sender says Stamps fulfillment center.
I love it when the company tries to act like the customer or potential customer is stupid by saying there was a misunderstanding on the customer's part. No misunderstanding from me.

I signed up for a trial run to try stamps.com. I funded the account, but in the end I never used it. It was too complicated and didnt work for me. I called to cancel and they said no problem. Next thing I know, ** getting charged a recurring fee every month! I dont know if they refunded the original amount I deposited for funding, but more important is that they charged a monthly fee even though I cancelled. Not only that, but I emailed a representative and was told on two different occasions that they apologize for the error and they will stop the charges and refund the money. At one point they did although it was only for three months worth, however I was willing to take the loss just to he did of this scam company. The problem is, they started charging again! On top of that, its coming from a seldom used account, so now my account became overdrawn and I was charged fees for that. I emailed again and was told the company received the message but nothing has been done and yet again I was charged. This is a scam, illegal, illegitimate and I have suffered mentally as well as financially for far too long because of them!Business Response

the only question I have is that they sent me a letter stating that they will waive the fees for 1 month. Im hoping this was just a poorly worded response, as the response I received here was much different. Thank you for your help in resolving this matter!

I began a free trial with Stamps.com on June 11, 2024. I used a promotional credit they offered and used their free trial to send one piece of mail.On July 9, 2024, I decided to close my account because I was not receiving enough orders to require the regular use of their services. The closure of my account should have ended the free trial.Today, on July 11 2024 I have a pending charge in my bank account for ********* stated, I CANCELLED my free trial before the trial period was up -- something that the *** section on Stamps.com states will prevent you from being charged. It in fact, states: "Dont pay unless you stay Cancel your account online or call ************** to cancel within the 4-week trial period and pay no service fee. The monthly fee is just $19.99 plus applicable taxes, if any, including the first month. Your service will continue uninterrupted as long as you do not cancel."I confirmed with a quick search that closing my account should have ended the free trial. This is not the first time that I have had issues with Stamps.com. I attempted to use their service back in 2018 and used it for approximately one month (outside of the trial) and decided to cancel. They attempted to charge me then, too, despite me having cancelled within the time period stated to avoid being charged for another month of services. That matter was resolved by contacting them and explaining the issue to them.I had thought that, given the amount of time between uses of their services, perhaps they had improved their business practices. However, having had this experience of being charged by Stamps.com without authorization and in spite of following procedures listed on their own website TWICE, I feel the need to report their business.I have contacted their customer service department, as well as filed a dispute with my bank over the charge to my card/account.I cannot recommend the use of their service to anyone, especially as I am not the first to encounter this.Business Response

I am writing to formally request a refund of $240.24, the total amount billed to my account since October 2023 by Stamps.com. I was charged $21.84 each month without my knowledge or consent for a service I never intentionally subscribed to.The agreement for this subscription is intentionally obfuscated and hidden from customers intending to perform a one-time purchase of stamps. The amount of similar complaints to mine is evidence that Stamps.com is deliberately deceiving customers. Additionally, when I log into my account on **********************, there is no mention of this subscription and no way to cancel it, leaving me with no way to end this unauthorized subscription.Stamps.com practices violate several consumer protection laws, including but not limited to:The ************************ Act (15 U.S.C. 45), which prohibits "unfair or deceptive acts or practices in or affecting commerce." By failing to provide clear and conspicuous disclosure of the subscription terms, Stamps.com engages in deceptive practices. The Restore Online Shoppers Confidence Act (ROSCA, 15 U.S.C. 8401-8405), which requires that all material terms of a transaction be clearly and conspicuously disclosed before obtaining the consumer's billing information and prohibits charging consumers for goods or services through a negative option feature without clear and conspicuous disclosure of all material terms and express informed consent. The *************** Transfer Act (EFTA, 15 U.S.C. 1693), which requires that consumers have the right to stop payment of preauthorized electronic fund transfers and to revoke authorization. The practices of Stamps.com in this matter are clearly in violation of these statutes. Failure to address this issue promptly and refund the full amount of $240.24 will leave me no choice but to escalate this matter by filing complaints with the ************************ (FTC), the ************************************ (CFPB), and my state's **************************Business Response

I created an account with ********************** several months ago because they offered a free trial. I realized quickly that their prices were higher than other providers, so I cancelled my trial so I would not incur any charges. However, this mainstream scammer company billed me for months automatically. When I finally realized it, I disputed the transactions with my bank and completely cancelled my account. The next day, to my surprise, I was charged again for the "remainder of the billing cycle". I've read a few of the complaints against this company and they all sound the same as mine. Automatic payments for no service or benefit. This company is hoping you miss the fact that they are charging you monthly and that you will do nothing about it.Business Response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I would like to add that I was charged for a scale prior to the trial period ending and I never received it. I was refunded that amount and I believe I spoke to someone there who was supposed to cancel my subscription BEFORE the trial ended. I knew before the trail ended that Stamps.com was not going to benefit me or my business at that time and chose to cancel before the end of the trial. It was not done back then and that is why we are in this current situation.
Sincerely,

I started a free-trial account with ********************** to try out the service. At the end of the trial I sent an e-mails asking for the trial to be cancelled. I did not want to continue the service, I found it to be more than I needed and it was very pricey. Fast forward ten months and every month I get an email with a "service charge" due of $29. My total is now $296. I have never even logged in to the account nor used it since the free trial. I have repeatedly sent them emails about the charges and they continue to attempt to charge my card. I told them that they no longer have permission to charge my debit card. I have kept this card turned off to avoid them taking my money. I am not paying them for something that I asked to be cancelled. This is just another subscription scam, you cannot cancel it and they think they can continue to charge your debit card.Business Response

One visit to Trustpilot should indicate that this is not just an issue for me but for a class action lawsuit. They have essentially no real advertising except buried in some fine print that there is a monthly membership, then they make canceling as difficult as possible, and then hit customers with Im assuming a cancelation fee again. They wouldnt be scamming people if they could survive on legit business. This company is a scam and their reviews reflect that.Business Response
