Asphalt scam. This owner of the company called me claiming to have a great offer if I let him do my driveway. I said I was only accepting offers to consider but planning to do it next spring. He said he had a job cancel on him and would lose the asphalt allocated to him and if I was to save him he would give me a good deal. He ended up quoting $22,700. I didn't have a chance to research the company, fast talking sales person, said he owned the company and to trust him blah blah. I agreed and they came to do the job around 1pm. When I saw the first half of the job it was horrible, they laid asphalt on top of my concrete patio instead of a clean edge (pictures available). When I called him, he said "oh sorry, I didn't tell the men there was a patio here, that is my fault. We will fix it". All he did was roll over it to flatten the edge on top of the concrete. Still looking horrible. Then around the patio door, the laid asphalt so thick, water runs into the house instead of away from it (pictures available). The asphalt was cold and not well pressed, its all in clumps and only 3 days after the job was done, the asphalt can be kicked loose by just walking on it. They did not level the driveway and several areas collect water. They moved items onto the grass and when done, they left everything in a pile of mess (pictures). They left clumps of asphalt on the grass, borders extremely irregular, Variable thickness of asphalt along the way (pictures). The entrance of the driveway from the asphalt road, they laid my asphalt over the asphalt road about half to one inch thick and just left it. I told him the snow plough will rip that edge up on the first snow fall. Everything I point out he argued was nothing wrong with it, that's the way it should be!! Then he argued that I was not letting him finish the job, that he was still there and when he's done it will be perfect. But it was obvious he just wanted to rush through and there was no repairing the asphalt after it got cold. But he insisted it can all be fixed, just let him finish. Then he rushed half the crew and equipment off the job and said he was just keeping 4 guys and they would take care of things. They worked slower and it got to 9pm. What he had told me would be a 2 day job, he was rushing to finish in one day (less than 7hours) and with half the crew. The result is a huge mess that has completely devalued a million dollar home. All pictures show the disaster that I was left with. He then came to me demanding full payment for $22,700 even though he agreed that a lot needed to be fixed. He yelled and intimidated me with another guy he brought with him during the day but never introduced him, and the group of Mexican workers he had. (I am a single woman living alone). I told him at some point I will not be bullied and there is so much wrong with this job but everything I brought up, he acted like I was nagging him and as if I was nitpicking, even though the pictures clearly show what a horrible job this is. At one point, I posted a few pictures of the project on next door neighbor asking strangers opinions, tens of responses came stating it was a horrible job, not one response was in favor. I showed him the responses, he still argued and said they were not professionals and he demanded payment and got really aggressive. He asked to send him personally payment, I said where is the company account, he said I am the owner it is all the same. He demanded the money be transferred to his personal account not the company account. Payment was made with the agreement that they would return in a couple of days to fix all the identified problems. He refused to return and keeps coming up with lame excuses. Not only was the job horrible but he rushed the men out of here where they did not clean up after themselves. Left Tshirts and water bottles thrown all over my yard. They did not return anything they moved back to where it was. Pictures available to show the mess.

I was approached at my home by an individual offering driveway services.. He stated that they were working in the area and could provide professional driveway installation while we were completing other property upgrades. The contractor who introduced himself as "Ed" who claimed to be the owner of the company, represented that: A laser would be used to properly grade and pitch the property for correct water drainage. 6.5 inches gravel/ item 4 would be installed and fully compacted. three inches of asphalt would be installed and properly compacted. Belgium blocks would be carefully removed and reinstalled with a cement footer for stability and level finish, including aliment with neighbor's driveway. The completed driveway would have a perfect pitch, proper aesthetics, and meet professional standards. Once the work began, none of these promises were fulfilled: No laser or proper grading equipment was used. Driveway was not pitched correctly; asphalt was laid up to the garage door, creating drainage concerns. The gravel base was not installed with thicknesses as stated. Belgium blocks were installed without a footer, misaligned, uneven, and inconsistent in height and appearance. Workers used my materials(wood, sand, cones. Workers entered my garage without permission. As a result a classic 1993 Mercedes belonging to my son was scratched during the work. After pointing out these deficiencies, the contractor stated that he "did his best" and still demanded full payment. When I refused, citing the defective and incomplete work, I was intimidated and threatened that he would "come and tear up the driveway" I just wanted what was contracted and I had no objection to them removing their work, but instead, the harassment continued. Additionally, there was confusion over who actually owned the company. First, one individual claimed to be the owner, then another arrived claiming ownership. This "good guy/bad guy" tactic appeared to be an attempt to pressure and confuse me into paying for substandard work. Turned out to be brothers. I believe this operation is deceptive in nature, possibly fraudulent designed to pressure homeowners into on-the-spot contracts and payments for work that is neither properly performed nor professionally warranted.

They are going door to door asking to pave driveways, telling you that your driveways will be patched and leveled out. My driveway looks like crap and is pealing. It was just done a few days ago. The company is not returning my calls. I can not find a address for them.

The scammers came in a bright red Rod pickup truck which looked nice and new. They pulled up in my driveway as I was walking to my kitchen door. I thought they were just going to tun around because they were going the wrong way? No , they kept coming up the driveway with the driver waving a piece of paper to get my attention. My mistake. When the got out the truck, they started the talking about being here before and about their “old man” having a heart attack and in the hospital. They just kept it up as if my husband used them before. They kept telling me gthat they were going to give me all kinds of discounts. In the meantime I was remembering my son-in-law’s advise about getting my driveway done and making sure they put a sealant down. They insistent on doing while they were there. So I agreed. I only remember the one guy’s name because he is the one who spoke to me first and he introduced himself. His name was Santino Mitchell. They did the sealant and then came to the door to get paid. I needed to know who to make the check out to so I asked for a card. The other guy just handed me a paper with company name, phone number, with a list of some of their jobs with a picture of a container with $49.99. The guy said to make the check out to Santino Mitchell and Santino said, “with two l’s.” I questioned why I should make the check out to Santino and not the company name but he insisted Santino. When I asked how much I almost fell over. He quoted me $6,679! I of said,”What!. Then he said I’ll give you a discounted pay $5900. So I replied how about $5500 to see if he would agree which he did. However he made me promise not to tell any of my neighbors how much I paid. I ma de out the check and they left. Afterwards I really started questioning everything and realized I was scammed. All of the took less than an hour—them taking and pushing and me not thinking, When I settled down, I went online and typed, who is Santino Mitchell. To my surprise it came up with the named pictures of a criminal in Florida! Then I did the telephone number and up came the BBB Notice about the paver scammers in Damascus, MD! My bank was closed at 4 and then I started thinking that my money was gone. To my surprise, the ba no called me the next morning. Santino took my check in to cash it and the manager at the bank questioned it and called. She asked if I wanted it stopped. I said”Yes!” Then I called Montgomery County 311, explained what happened. I was transferred to the police; I told my story again. A police officer was sent to my home. Just before the officer came, Santino came from the bank to see why I stopped the check. I told him it was too much and I would still pay but not that much. He was friendly and smiling until I told him that I called the police. He got excited said, “never mind, you got it for nothing.” He kept walking to his car. No sooner did he leave, when the police officer came up my driver. I told the officer the whole story. I showed him the picture of Santino on my iPad and the notice on BBB. He took pictures of both. I am still having a hard time blaming myself for being soooo stupid paying the scammers but I am glad I stopped them! I felt it’s better I felt ashamed but I did stop others from getting scammed.

Two asphalt “contractor” men showed up at our house on Friday, July 25th, 2025, around 10:20am, honked, and said they had extra asphalt and they could do our driveway (which we said we needed it, because the side of part of it was way sunken down). They said they were finishing up a project in Bergen park, Evergreen, and were trying to recoup the value of the product. So I called my husband and we decided to do it, felt serendipitous, at the time. They said it was 3.75 a sqft, but they could not give us a quote. Seemed okay at the time, and like we were maybe going to get a good deal. They came back with a crew around 12pm and were waiting for more equipment. They started the work around 2:15pm and did the job extremely fast, in 45 minutes, and also paved some of the neighbors driveway (very hastily and he did not approve this), and left a mess on the main road. I have pictures and video of all this. Partway through the job, the leader of the group (who rolled up in a white Escalade), asked a worker to come to the door to ask me for a beer. Things started to seem strange once this happened. I then noticed that they were all in street clothes, there was no company branding on vehicles, and the main leader was smoking a cigarette. At this point, the job was almost complete so there was nothing I could do and they started talking about how good it looked and what we owed. I just listened to our ring doorbell, and they said it was 2,000 sqft, but when he rings the doorbell, he says it’s 2,600. Anyways, I tried to pay and the payment kept coming up as fraud. Then next person I was in contact with, whom I was paying through some sort of credit card app in his phone, says “oh yeah, it always comes up as fraudulent from chase”. Part of it ended up going through, but they wanted the rest in cash so we went to the bank, they followed us there, got them the rest, as we felt extremely pressured to do so. We wanted to withhold the rest of the payment, as they said they were going to come finish up a corner in Monday, but we have two little kids and we felt scared they were criminals and know where we live. I believe their LLC is registered in Spokane, WA. Once we got home, we assessed the work done. The asphalt is supposed to be at least 1.5 inches thick, it was less than an inch in some places, crumbly, and uneven.

Did not repair and claimed warrenty was expired Waited it out to come and repair even though we contacted within weeks of job. Came by and said he had leftover material and was in the area already. Used pea gravel and nnot enough tar material Has several complaints already on file Not an honest company.

The guys were driving around in our neighborhood and approached me twice, lowering the price each time they talked to be about paving my driveway. Once I agreed to them doing the driveway, their crew descended within minutes. One of the men, came to my door midway through the job was done and demanded that I pay them cash. I told him I would do an e-transfer but he refused, said it had to be cash. I went to the bank and got the cash and inspected the work before I paid them. Already there were cracks along the edges so I had them fix them. They also stole a push broom from my garage. They told me that I had to wait 30 days to get the driveway sealed. I called them about a week after the 30 day mark and the voicemail was not set up at the number. Someone did call me back but said that they were running a bit behind due to the rainy weather. At this point I was suspicious and looked up the address on their website only to find out it was the UPS store nearby and that the company had just started in April 2025 (they did my driveway in May 2025) Since then, the number has been disconnected and the website taken down. My driveway now have many cracks in it already and I recently found out it should have been sealed immediately after it was done. The sealing was part of the contact. I also found out that other neighbors have had even shoddier work done by the same people and never had theirs sealed either. The one guy's name was John (probably in his 40's) and the other James (Looked to be in his 20's or early 30's), both had British accents. They had men who spoke Spanish working for them

A white work truck with a yellow ladder on top with the company name Danny & Sons Asphalt Refurbishing stopped by our home and asked if we wanted any work done to our driveway. We were looking to have the garage floor painted and the driveway sealed. He offered to do both that same day. He said he could give us a deal as he had leftover material from the job he just left. We are still not sure of what he covered the garage floor with. It looked like a powder concreate that he said would harden but it never did. He patched an area in our driveway and said he would be back to sealcoat it. They also left footprints of the powdered concrete material which is now stuck to our driveway. We believe he blocked our number. He wasn't answering so we called from another phone line which he answered and said he would be back in a couple days. That was over a week ago. He told us that the two young men working with him were his sons. Beware...we are out quite a bit chunk of money and we now have to pay to have it all redone.

Had an asphalt driveway replaced 1 1/2 weeks ago by Baufirm Paving, a Kitchener, Ontario business. The company representative, James Welch, came to my door and told me they were finishing another job in my Hamilton neighbourhood. He said they had materials left and made me a great offer. The contract indicates that there is a 7 year warranty on the work. Payment was to be made a soon as the job was done. Oddly, my e-transfer payment had to go to a company called Tamster Global Inc.. The crew did not do the thorough clean up promised. More importantly the driveway has large areas of rough surface. I contacted them about the clean up and the surface issues (I texted a picture). My initial contacts with them resulted in 3 appointments in which they stood me up with no follow up. Now they do not return my texts at all. My phone calls to the company in Kitchener were not returned. I finally made phone contact at the business today and spoke with James. He said they would be back in Hamilton around the end of the month and would look at it then. I don't think that is good enough considering the surface of the driveway. I believe I have been scammed even though the company seems to be legitimate. Yet there is no mention of them on the BBB website. **** ** * ** ****

This companies m.o is driving around and looking for bad driveways and once they find one that needs work they hop out and feed you a line that they have leftover materials from a job they just finished and that they want to use the rest on your driveway at a really discounted price and for added benefit you dont have to pay "right now" however when you ask how much its going to be they wont tell you. At the end they told me the "discounted" price was just shy of $14000. These guys are con artists

Business claimed that they would kill weeds, fill cracks, and apply a coating of asphalt to driveway for $750. They did NOT kill weeds or fill cracks. They sprayed a very thin coating over the weeds, cracks and driveway. Application was extremely thin, it sprayed black onto the landscaping rocks, and did NOT improve the look of the driveway. A phone call to the owner was accepted and he promised to send someone out to remedy the issues in a day or two. NO ONE EVER CAME BACK. The charge was $750. It was paid by check, which was cashed immediately. This business is a scam!

This happened to my parents on June 24, 2025. A road maintenance construction company pulled up to my parents' home. They are both in their mid 80s. They claimed to have been working nearby on a road repair and had leftover asphalt that they could put on their driveway at a really great deal. He quoted a price per foot, but when finished said they owed him per square foot. My parents were confused because they thought they might have to pay $1,500 for a patch job, using whatever was leftover in their truck. They wound up paving their entire driveway (front and back of the house) and gave them a bill for $64,000, to be paid immediately. My parents felt like they had to pay, which went on to three different credit cards. My parents live off of their pensions and can absolutely not afford this. They never would have agreed to a $64,000 new driveway. They were scared. I drove 1.5 hours up to their home immediately and called the credit cards to refuse payment, and called the local police department. And today I found that someone else has reported this company to the BBB, only their complaint was for a Harrison Asphalt Company, using the same 800-208-0554 phone number. The invoice that they left behind had no other physical/e-mail addresses.

I had spoken with T.C.B. Paving Company in September 2023 about sealing my driveway. They had just finished sealing my neighbor's driveway, and came to my door asking to seal my driveway. The person I spoke with, gave me an estimate of $800. At that time, I told him that it was to late in the year, and I would contact him spring 2024. I had some health issue and it wasn't until this year, 2025, that I contacted T. C. B. about sealing my driveway. A different person came to my door, then the one that I had spoken with in 2023. I had called T. C. B. two days prior to them doing the job, and the person I spoke with August C. ******** *** was "gun-ho" to seal my drive way and said he would be out at 1:00 PM on June 4th. He showed up approx. 6:00 pm and I mentioned that it was a little late, but he indicated he would do as much as he could. (By the way, he had his 3 year old son with him.) He started the work, and since it was getting dark, said he would be back early the next morning, on his way to a very important job in Laurel, MD, and could he have his payment at that time, since he would be showing up very early they next day. He asked for a check of $900, ($100 more then the estimated quote, in 2023.) Since he did not show up the next morning, I stopped payment on the check, that cost me $30.00, but it had already been cashed. It was not until 6 days later that he showed up, again late in the day, and with out notice and while I was out, and no caution signs had been put at the end of the driveway, and not knowing, I drove onto the drive way, getting blacktop sealer over my car. The quality of work was done poorly, there are spots on the driveway without any sealer, plus he did not prep the driveway, there is blacktop sealer all over my plants, it is just a poor job. Everyone is asking, who did you driveway. I child could have done a better job. This guy, should not be calling himself a business person, plus I feel I have been taken advantage by this con-artist.

A company by the name All Pro Paving and Sealing offered to fix my gravel driveway with their asphalt milling. The cost was $10000.00 cash. They would apply a sealer for $2500.00 check. After rains and driving on it, it looks terrible. It's worse than gravel driveway. It tracks a mess in my home and vehicles. The work was done on 1/28/2025. The contact lied when my wife called him and now won't answer or return calls.

Whitlow Paving out of West Virginia contracted to pave a parking lot. He took the $7000 deposit and never completed the lot. Only one third was paved way below industry standard, and in a very unprofessional service and product. The paving is uneven, thicker in some places without proper water runoff. He left the job with Asphalt all over, construction debris and did not come back to complete the contract. .

People have come to our house, angry, wanting their money back. Paving jobs not complete. Asphalt quoted for cash jobs. Reclaimed product used, not actual asphalt. Owner claims they will come back to repair and complete but never do. Angry customers are coming to my house!!!!! A young man pulled into our driveway, in a large, red pickup truck with no plates on the front of the truck. He talked with my husband about filling holes and cracks in the driveway and sealcoating. He said he worked the southern Wisconsin area and northern IL area, for this company he said was based in St. Louis, MO. called C.O.R.E. Asphalt & Sealcoating LLC. They do both residential and commercial. [email protected] 573-822-9990. Listed his cell # as 675-1184, but no area code given. The quote would have been $1600.00, but he said he could do it today for $900.00.

This morning (May 22, 2025), a dark gray, newer diesel pickup truck pulled into my driveway in Salem, Oregon. Two young men (possibly twins) got out of the vehicle and approached my front door. They claimed to work for “Summit Asphalt Company” and said they had leftover asphalt from a previous job. They offered to repave my driveway, estimating it to be 15,000 square feet, and quoted a price of $6,500. Their pitch was unsolicited, and the manner felt rushed and suspicious. They didn’t provide any business identification, written estimate, or license information. I declined the offer and they eventually left. I’m concerned this may be part of a known paving scam and wanted to report it to protect others in the area.

The company went door to door offering asphalt services in and around Bolton Caledon area. They asked for cash for a quick job and provided a contract however since the said job it was poorly done, potholes left, mess and discoloration. They do not answer the phone or repond to emails. They promised a warranty st the 12 month mark and 24 month however it is unlikely they will come back.

A man approached my husband and talked him into a asphalt driveway. My husband agreed. He has Alzheimer's. I came home and the driveway was already dug up. Told him my husband was sick and couldn't okay this. Then he told me the driveway would be 4.85 or square yard . Something I don't understand. I have had a brain injury and two months ago I had major surgery and radiation for cancer in my neck. I am totally at fault I okayed it. Thinking it was going to be 5-10 thousand dollars. He was finish and gave me a bill for 50,000. I told him I don't even have that much money. And I called my son. He came over with the police. They told me nothing I could do because I okayed it. My son talked him down to 35,000. And I paid it with all my savings. I'm worried about paying my bills now. And I'm all alone in this.

It was a driveway paving scam. They came to my house and offered to "use up" the rest of their leftover crushed blacktop for a reasonable price. $9500.00 for a rolled gravel driveway. I paid them because I was afraid to not pay but it is a scam. They rushed my decision and my payment. I stopped payment on the check.

Paving Scam - Paving crew in brand new vehicles using name United Road Construction. Tag on vehicles is URC USDOT 2611562. These people are very deceptive and will say they are a road crew complete with red lights and yellow safety vests. They say that they can't work that day and have extra or leftover asphalt and will offer you a deal. Except it is not a deal. It starts small, then the price goes up. The work is terrible quality but they are counting on you not to know its bad. They are in a big hurry to take your money and leave.

They paved the driveway with asphalt but didnt do a good job, promising to come back and reseal it as well as a 5 year fully guaranteed warranty. None of the forms of communication they provided work.

John the owner said if I wasn’t satisfied, I don’t pay until I’m satisfied. Which before the work was done he came to collect the money. Which he wanted it in cash. I called him over a handful of times the first two times he answered and then he stopped answering and then my husband called and didn’t answer for him . My husband did leave a message but no return phone call. I got my driveway paved which is grainy like the asphalt was not padded down good enough . My rain spout was damaged also in this process.

Paved driveway, very poor job. Said he would come back and fix it. Can’t get him on the phone. Goes to his answering machine and of course that is always full. We have tried numerous times to no avail. This driveway was done late afternoon early evening on a Friday. He couldn’t wait to get his money and run.

Scammers met the victim in her driveway. Stated they would seal her driveway for $200 to $300 dollars. She gave them permission to do the work. When they finished, they told her she owed $2,100. She said she couldn't pay that and asked her if she could make a $1,000 payment. She wrote a check for $1,000 because she's alone and was afraid of what they might do. They went directly to her bank and cashed the check. The bank called her to see if she actually wrote the check and she assured the bank that she had.

A few days before April 1, 2025, a man named Bill from "1st Call Paving and Masonry" approached my family's home to offer driveway paving services. He mentioned that he had been working on other neighbors' driveways as well. Seeing other neighbors had agreed to those services, my father asked for a written estimate, but they never gave one. Bill and his team showed up April 1 and started immediately drilling and working on the driveway. In a few hours, they were finished and Bill refused to take a check, and demanded my father (who is 71 years old and does not speak English well) to head to the local bank immediately to get him $5000 in cash. He was extremely rude and brash and almost felt like he held my father hostage until he got his money in cash. I was afraid he would get violent. I came out to talk to him and asked for his name and company. However, he seemed hesitant to tell me. He waited where my father had parked the car and took the cash from him. Afterwards, he gave my father a fake "contract" with the fake company name at the top. He had my father sign this after he took the cash. They even left one of the asphalt rollers on the lawn and did not seem interested in taking it back.

This person, Charles maverick Boosalis, Appeared on my door multiple times. stating that they were in the neighborhood paving driveways. Since they are already in the area with his workmen's and the equipment, they can give a good price to laying asphalt on my driveway. I turned him down two times. When he came back third time, We agreed on repaving the exist asphalt driveway and putting down asphalth on the rocky part also patching a small area for $2500 plus $250 for coating. Second day of their work I noticed some faults deviating from the contract. Such Refusing to clean the vegetation, using poor or no layering materials. Leaving gaps and unpaved areas. I texted to him and try to explain that the written down on the contract is different than what they have been doing. He got angry, became loud, started using bad words and ugly body gestures. Denying the contract. Asking $1800 for the half the job. I offered $1000. He asked extra $500 to put the layer. I agreed on that too told him I can give $3000 with extra $500. Those did not make him calm down. I left him while he was screaming in front of my house and got inside to the house for my safety. He hammered the partly done driveway, left munching and the pieces of the asphalt all around the yard, on the driveway which is blocking my enters and ext. I called 911. Officer arrived seen the scene. The then called him. After officer talked to Charles M. Boosalis, officer told me If I pay his money upfront by check then he is going to come clean the area and finish the job. Since this came from the officer. I wrote a check to him to the full amount of $2500. Charles M. B. came back and told me he could not cash the check. I met him at the BOA on Old court road. Cash the check and gave the $2500 in front of the bank. He took the money drove away. He did not come back nor pick my phone calls up or respond my texts. I again called 911 and reached out another police officer. I explained the situation which he disappear after got the $2500 cash. Police officer gave the case number to me for the record and told me that it is a civil case they can not do anything about it and added should file a complaint. At the end my driveway left with the broken pieces of asphalt underivable. I am in my 60 s, had two surgeries recently makes my accessibility to home from across the street a challenge. My car had flat tire while parked on the different block rather than my driveway caused another distress.

Bill from Harrison Asphalt Company offered a great deal and a chance to help him get rid of extra asphalt by offering to use leftover asphalt to top our existing asphalt driveway. He quoted a price per foot, but when finished said I owed him per square foot. The original price was about $2,000 but then he wanted $30,000 when he finished. He talked fast and had me sign a work order but never mentioned square feet until after the job. He then began negotiating and was ready to settle at half rather quickly until I refused and told him we had a deal at linear feet. It remains unresolved and their website shows no address or names involved in the company.

Tim from Custom paving came to my door 2 days in a row offering paving services with recycled asphalt. Told me it was be covered under a 3 year warranty and would draw up an invoice it. His workers showed up a few hours later and got the job done. Originally the driveway looked great. After a week I noticed big ruts, holes and loose asphalt. I have tried connecting with Tim since and now his number doesn't work and the driveway is in bad shape.

The scammer, "Nick" came to my door and asked if I would accept a bid on my garage roof. Later the "leader" came by and tried to ask an exorbitant amount of money for the job. I "bargained" down the amount, still way too high. He then, started to psychologically harassed me in every instance, My wife and I are Senior Citizens. I don't have all my faculties at all times. I became confused and wrote checks to Lucas Bennett and one to Eric Stanfill over a few days period. They paid piece mail, to a laborer for very, minimal, little work. They haven't shown up for days. I reported this to the Police and have a case number. P.S. He showed me a Washington State driver's license (Seattle), with the name Lucas Bennett. I learned it was not him, but one of his workers. Scam leader went by the name of "Dino", I later learned

As in the prior story, we experienced the same thing. That was in Oregon, we are in Cave Creek AZ. The brothers Jay and Charlie Joles came to our road, with excess paving and oil materials. They oiled half the road, it was not good quality, said their equipment broke down, never completed the job. Promised to come back, but could never be reached. Pathetic con men!

Two brothers, Charlie and Jay Joles, and a son/nephew came to our house, stating they had excess paving and road oiling materials. They did a horrible job, stated their equipment broke down and would they would need to come back. They never came back, their phone numbers do not work. They did not leave a business address. These guys are con men.

On February 4, 2025, Robert Stevens approached the victim who is a vulnerable person directly in the victim's front yard. Stevens told the victim that he had extra limestone material on his truck that he needed to use up and therefore, he would pave the victims driveway and road for a steep discount. Both verbally agreed upon $30 a SQUARE yard. Stevens kept pushing the sale without any paper work and the victim said "so, $3,000; right?" before Stevens started the work. Stevens said he had to measure. Without further discussion, Stevens laid the 35 yards of material that was on his truck and then, left to get 80 more yards of material without discussion with the victim or approval from the victim. After Stevens completed the work, he demanded $12,000.00; 4 TIMES the verbally agreed amount! The victim protested saying that he did not have the money and that he did not agree to that price. Stevens said he had to use extra material and demanded the payment saying he had expenses and had to pay his crew. Stevens never received approval to lay more than the verbal agreed price of $3,000 for the 35 SQUARE yards of material on his truck. Stevens continued to bully the victim who is cognitively, physically and speech impaired into paying $10,000 which was the last of the victim's savings. The victim who is an honest person, felt he had no choice but to pay the extorted demand as the work was complete albeit for the extremely inflated price that was not agreed to by the victim. The victim is now bankrupt and suffers from physical illness and distress over this crime. The paving is thin without rebar and I expect that it will crack and break under the weight of the garbage truck. The person knocked on our front door and estimated our driveway job. They offer $4000 and did their work next day. Their job was sloppy and imcompleted. They even use our household items without our permission. They continued to ask our payment with either check or cash. The guy, he self claimed "Billy" went to the bank our check and rejected with some reasons. He came back and get another check. They vanished without cleaning the asphalt debris or other meterial. I tried to contact them but the phone was disconnected.

On Thursday, December 5, 2024, my elderly, widow mother was swindled out of $6,000 by a Robert Northern (40 something male) representing Northern Asphalt. She lives out in the country in the Chapel Hill area. This Robert Northern drove onto her property without invitation after not being able to make contact with her neighbor (whose driveway is in worse condition than her own). When accessing her property, he drove onto her property past her house honking his horn to get her attention as she walked uphill from feeding her animals in the barn. He then waited in his truck until she came to him, so he could start his sales pitch. He said that he had some leftover asphalt from a previous job, that her driveway needed re-paving, that he would do the first 5-square feet for free and that upon her approval he would charge her $5 per square foot for rest of the job. She told him that she had to consult with me prior to the paving beyond the "free" portion and that I would need to approve any work being done since she was recently widowed (2023) and living alone on the property. She gave him the approval to do the "free" portion thinking that it couldn't hurt.

 

He gave her his card and told her that he had to go get the truck with the asphalt and that he would return later that day to do the initial portion. She then contacted me to tell me that she may be getting a new driveway that day. We discussed it and agreed that I would need to see it prior to any work being done. Robert then disappeared for hours until my mother called the number on his card to see when he might come back to do the introductory work (she naps often in her old age and was getting tired waiting for him to come out). A woman answered the phone and told my mother that he'd be there soon. When he finally arrived, he had his "nephew" with him to help.

 

She met them outside and she watched them get started on the "free" portion. Due to her old age and infirmities, she could only tolerate standing outside in the cold watching for a few minutes before telling them that she was going inside to wait for them to finish the "free" portion. Sometime later (she had fallen asleep on the couch waiting), my mother was awakened by them knocking on the door. They demanded payment of $6,000 for the completed job. Alarmed at this and not knowing what to do for fear of reprisal and seeing that they had done more than the "free" portion, she obligingly wrote them the check. They then wrote on the back of the business card "$6,000.00 Paid an Full" "Flat Price" " 5 year gautterd". This was the only "paperwork" for the job. Seems like trying to state that she paid a flat rate of $6000.00 paid in full with a guarantee of 5 years in attempt to put her at ease and make it "official." No contract. No agreement. (Note - I added notes to the card including "Drive way" "12/5/2024" and "Check #4126".)

 

My mother alerted me afterwards telling me that she had done a "bad thing" and so I contacted the bank the next day (due to her alerting me after bank hours on the day of the scam) in an attempt to put a hold on the check, but they had already cashed it and that until it posted to the account, we could not take any other action. After doing my own research and discussing costs and the procedures of asphalt paving with colleges that have had similar work done, we concluded that she was thoroughly ripped off and taken advantage of. Upon my inspection of the job, I found it to be approximately 9' wide by 100.75' long making the square feet 906.75 (including the "free" portion). Using his verbal quote of $5 per square foot 906.75 X $5 = $4,533.75. According my resources the thickness of the asphalt is only half as deep as it should be in order to do the job that it was supposed to do. There was no approval to do any work other than the "free" portion and no discussion was had as to how large an area would be paved. There should've been nothing done except for the initial "free 5-square feet" from the road. Instead, this Robert Northern went carte blanche paving a swath of ground expecting to be paid handsomely by a lonely widow. A few days later the "nephew" came back, waking my mother from her slumber, telling her that he was there to put the hardener on the paving.

He stood off to the side to avoid being seen by any cameras and stated something about the charge for the hardening. My mother, still in her pajamas and fearful, couldn't hear if there was a charge or if he said there is no charge. She told him, "no." He left and she hasn't seen nor heard from either of them since. If this was legitimate contracted work, Robert Northern should have then reached out to her regarding the hardener and the 5-year guarantee and/or to clarify the cost/no cost of the hardener. In my research of Northern Asphalt and Robert Northern, I could not find any references to it as a company nor his name with a local address. My opinion of the job, other than it shouldn't have been done at all, is that it was very poorly done with only the intention of making a quick buck off of someone that wouldn't fight back. It seems that she is out of luck getting anything back financially, but she has learned a hard lesson and will be more cautious in the future, including calling the local sheriff if necessary.

On Friday 1/10/25 a man pulled up while my elderly mother was on the driveway and convinced her to let him pave her driveway. He told her to go to the bank and take out $3,000 and it would be done when she gets back. He didn’t give her a receipt and he said he would come back the next day and bring one and also patch up the rest of the driveway. On Saturday 1/11/25 he came back and patched up more spots on the driveway and told her to write him a check for $2,000. She wrote the check, and he still did not give her a receipt. He said he would come back the next day with a receipt and a warranty. After he didn’t come back Sunday 1/12/25 she called him/the number on the business card on Monday 1/13/25. The woman who answered the phone said he would come by at some point in the morning. He didn’t and he called from his personal phone and said he would stop by, but still never did. My mother said that at one point he called her and said he emailed her a receipt, which she didn’t receive either. When I went to the house I saw that the driveway was not paved correctly, instead just covered over.

I just purchased my home April 21, 2024, TC Blacktop came to my home on 4/24/24 and stated his company was switching products and he did not want to throw the old product away. He claimed he would pave my entire driveway for $2100.00 and that we would receive a 5 year warranty. We never received a receipt or a warranty. As TC Blacktop was paving the driveway it started to rain, I asked if we should we reschedule? He stated the rain would not affect the work and advised us to stay off the driveway for 24 hours and we did. The next day on 4/25/24 it appeared nothing was done. My driveway did not have a piece of asphalt on it. I called TC Blacktop and advised him of the problem and he gave the run around regarding fixing the issue. I advised I would just like a refund. He agreed but never returned the funds. I have text messages to prove it. He advised I should have my refund back by 8/12/24 and that did not happen. I took him to small claims court on 9/12/24 and won my case with this evidence. He still has not paid. I went back to the courthouse to file for an execution order for the sheriff to get involved only to find an 80 year old lady name Betty that he had scammed for $2100(we exchanged info). Please help us stop the criminal.

Someone from this company came to our carport door and spoke to my husband. The person offered to pave our driveway for $150.00. I knew this was a scam. My husband has early stage Alzheimer's and is not competent to enter into any contract. This was around 1:00 pm today, January 2, 2025. I contacted my attorney who advised me that when they returned, I should tell them that they were trespassing and to leave or I would call the sheriff. They returned around 4:00 pm today. I asked them to leave, but the man kept pointing to the house and saying "he said." I told him that I did not care what "he said" that he is not competent to enter into a contract and that if he did not leave immediately, I would call the sheriff. The man I spoke to did not like it, but left. I knew that this was a scam for two reasons, one no reputable company would go door to door, and two the scam has been tried on me before several years ago.

George Stanley, President AAA Paving, completed a small industrial project for $15,000. Acceptable so he bid on a larger asphalt project. The red flag missed, he had his equipment go into the property and start grading without permission. What he actually did was leave dirt and rock obstacles hindering my tenants trucks movement. We agreed to what he'd do. George was given $32,000 and disappeared. George a very smooth talker but a totally fraudulent person.

he started a job and asked for $200 deposit and never finished the job. lots of back and forth and he still has not returned my phone calls or finish the job.

Paving driveway with recycled asphalt, came and put down crushed gravel and left. Said the crew was finishing a house around the corner and they’d come back but never did

He offered to pave my driveway with recycled asphalt, for cheep, and did not include labour cost, and no gst number, offered to do it under 1000, and wanted to charge 5000, others in my nabourhood, portkells surrey, others fell victim to him and payed and lost a lot more. he goes by the name Paul, and has a Australian accent.

Approached at door with the promise of repairing my driveway with asphalt. Came on the wrong day and worked late in the day and in the dark. Asked for a cheque and promised not to cash it until the next day. He went ahead and cashed it that night. I told them before they left that I couldn't get out my side door because the asphalt was too high. He promised to come the next day to fix that part of the job. Upon looking carefully at the work once it was light out, I found the work was unacceptable and there were many areas where there was gravel showing through. I called the boss and informed him there were many problems with the work. He said he'd be over and we could discuss and he assured me the problems would be fixed. He never showed up. I called the next day, he made an excuse about needing a machine, has one rented for Monday and would be here at 9am. Monday arrives and again they didn't show up. I called again and left a message asking what's going on and to call me back. No return call. Called again the next day saying how disappointed I was, that they were scammers. He called back right away and said they have the machine and would be there on Wednesday at 11 am. No show on Wednesday. Called again and message box was full so then called the Nanaimo office and talked to David Alexander. He told me he (David) would be here Monday at 9:30 and I would be dealing directly with him now. No show again. Called at 10:30 and he said he would be here within the hour. No show. Called again at 1pm left a message. No response.

The owner(or so claimed) knocked on my door as he saw mybroof had a tarp on it. When I told him I had already hired a contractor he mentioned he noticed my chimney was in bad shape and asked if I would like a quote. I said sure and he returned later with 2 other gentelman. As I was talking to "the owner" his guys were up inspecting my chimney and taking video. He showed me in the video there was loose bricks around the top which I dont recall ever seeing before. He pressured me very hard to accept his offer which did'nt feel comfortable to me and seemed like way to much even after dropping it down twice. He got very agitated to the point I had to tell him to go. After he left,on inspection of the chimney myself, it was apparent something had been used to break the mortar on top of the bricks that were loose.

An older Scottish man (Alex Wood) with his son (Tim Wood) was going door-to-door in the neighbourhood offering to pave the driveway. The claimed to be from Hamilton, ON but this took place in Waterford, ON. They surveyed the land and decided they would use recycled asphalt, and 3 inches of highway-grade asphalt on top of it. They were also supposed to level and grade the land although they did not have any equipment. A verbal agreement was that the work would be done but no timeline was made, and nothing was set in stone. They left and I assumed they were drawing up a contract. They did not return and I then left the house and when I returned they had already started the work. I signed a paper when the work was 85% done thinking I was agreeing the work to be done. Then the older man told me his ride had arrived and he would need to be paid. We went back and forth but he told me there was a contract and everything would be okay. Prior to the man's arrival the driveway was not paved and now it is crumbling, crackling, and has giant holes. It is not usable and is unsafe. I made contact and they agreed to come back and do the work but they never did it.

I had a paving company complete our parking lot. Someone made an email that was close to his to make it look like he was emailing the invoice. When I said my AP dept would mail a check. They stated they could not accept a check and gave a ACH details for a bank. This is the second time they attempted to get money from us. I am in communication with the paving company since we use him often and we knew this sounded off. I have pictures of the email. I can also prove the email is off by one letter of the actual email both times. This bank they are using needs to shut these down.
