On 11/29/22 I purchased a Microsoft Xbox Gift Card (Digital Code) for $100 from Amazon, after purchase an email is sent to you for redemption. Once you click the redemption link you are automatically given account credit in your Microsoft account. I did not want to buy apps for myself from the Microsoft Store, I wanted a gift card for a Christmas gift. I then spent a couple hours with Microsoft support with no resolve to refund of the $100. I cannot buy a gift card from Microsoft store with it, I cannot use it to pay a yearly subscription for Office/Outlook with them, it basically will sit in my account forever, as I am a grandma and do not play games or have an Xbox. My complaint will be false advertising and scam. I have attached screen shots of the advertised gift card and descriptions perfect gift for any gamer and great as a gift to a friend or yourself. Tell me, how can it be a gift when you cant give it to anyone, it goes straight to your Microsoft account, it is not physical. All other gift cards Ive ordered this year have led me right to a link to have the gift card sent or print from the link. I also noticed many one-star bad reviews on their Amazon page going back years regarding this very same problem. So, it seems they have probably been aware of this problem for a very long time yet have put no effort out in resolving it, probably very profitable. Im sure many wont go through the waste of time I did for smaller amounts, but mine was for $100 so it is not going to so easily be given up on. Description: Request a refund for a gift card
Today (12/10/22) I was contacted by the Microsoft Accounts and Billing agent regarding resolution to my complaint. Although he was a very nice man, there was no resolution, he provided the same information I had been given before.
To send a digital game as a gift on your console just go to the Microsoft Store, find the game you`d like to gift, locate the gift wrap icon, and click on it. Your friend will receive a message both on their Xbox console and the email associated with their Xbox Live account.
We discussed and he agreed that the description given as it being a gift card was fraudulent (hopefully the call was recorded). Listed as a gift card yet the resolution was to find out what game/s he wants, in this case $100 worth, and purchase them with my credit and then they will send him an email. In what way is that considered a gift card?
We discussed that I had seen many one-star reviews on Amazon going back as far as 2018, could be longer, for this very same problem and I questioned if an aged credit account report would reveal quite a few untouched credit balances, making it quite profitable. Although he admitted to fraudulent wording, he stated there was no plan to change it or investigate it.
It seems there is no resolution, I will spend another $100 for a gift card for my grandson for Christmas, and they will keep my $100 automatic Microsoft account credit they call a gift card until I purchase some apps. It is laughable that a computer software company cannot come up with a better resolution, if they wanted to.
The best I can do is to add my review on the Amazon listing, which they obviously do not look at or care about, (and I am sure I cannot be the first to complain) and inform the BBB and hopefully other consumers of the scam and fraud Microsoft is knowingly getting away with.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: After speaking with the Microsoft specialist (hopefully recorded) where he admitted to fraudulent wording and no intention of changing it, with evidence of it having gone on for years from the Amazon reviews of the Xbox, I believe something should be changed instead of accepting the generic response of sorry, no refund.

I am rejecting this response because: I will never accept a generic response that doesnt address the problem, which is admitted fraudulent wording with evidence of years of scamming people.
I also will never waste my time with reporting anything to the BBB, they do nothing but send correspondence back and forth. They are paid by the business for accreditation,so they do very little to help the consumer, they themselves are a scam.

My Xbox Account was hacked and $500 was stolen. My husband immediately contacted Microsoft once we saw the unauthorized charges on our bank account. After speaking with their customer service team, we were advised that the hacker purchased a brand new Xbox console and 2 games. The console was not in route and verified the package would be intercepted before *** picked up the package by their team. This was a lie because we later found out the package was in fact delivered to the hacker. This company can see the address the package was shipped to and the gamer name did not belong to us. The gamer name is ugly6154 which is NOT us. The address the package was delivered to was Jack ** at *****************************************************************************. We live in ******** and don't know anyone that lives in that state. We have requested a refund and have been getting nothing but a run around. This is very sad given this has taken money away from our kids Christmas. I expect Microsoft to do the right thing to resolve this matter in a timely manner. I will be happy to share all documentation I have retrieved, however Microsoft will have the same record of these unauthorized charges.Business Response

Good afternoon,I am reaching out in regards to a dispute by Microsoft on a chargeback. For roughly 3 months now I have had the displeasure of trying to recover my funds. What shouldve been a seemingly simple return has culminated into a multitude of headaches, fees, and blows to my credit, as well as an erosion of my trust in one of my longest standing accounts.I purchased a total of 6 laptops from Microsoft, upon receiving the goods and conducting a return following all of Microsofts terms and conditions. I waited patiently to receive my refund. Eventually I resorted to contacting my payment processor PayPal, who managed to recoup roughly ******** USD . I called Microsoft on multiple occasions and was assured the issue would be handled. This was sadly not the case. I decided to reach out to Citibank. A conditional credit was applied to my account, which eased my worries about my credit score, albeit not for long. Upon submitting proof of the returned parcel to Citi, and providing a detailed statement of the circumstances, I believed that once everything would be resolved. This was not the case. As it stands, i owe ********* dollars for no reason other than either the sheer incompetence or malice of Microsoft. To make matters worse, when logging into my Microsoft account I noticed a discrepancy. Microsoft claims to have legitimately refunded me for exactly *********. Suggesting i only owe ********. In reality Microsoft has only refunded me for ******** I am indebted ********* dollars for items I returned. Not to mention the hit on my credit and accumulated interest fees I have been liable for.The bank statements clearly show they have only refunded me for ********, Why do they claim to have refunded me for *********. And more importantly why do I owe anything at all after returning all of the items. I have tried working with Microsoft to resolve a billing issue, they opened a case number and failed to respond like they said they would. Now my credit card keeps getting charged for a Microsoft account I do not even have. I have emailed and called several times but since I do not know the account name or any information regarding the account they do not help me but keep charging my credit card even after I told them to stop billing the card. The ticket number is ********. I do not want to have to cancel my card when they could easily figure out who is using it and cancel the payment.Business Response

As the parent company who is looking to buy ******************** I am hoping Microsoft could potentially help look into a Fraud based issue with ********** and their latest product Call of Duty Modern Warfare II.The anti-cheat they claim to use is false banning consumers. The amount of consumers is at a high enough number that there has to be something wrong with the tool ********** is using.Consumers are paying upwards of $100+ in some cases to have their accounts banned/blocked without any legitimit review or appeal. I have been a victim of this process. I am a mid 40's adult who games casually to relax. After using this product for a month, no changes to my system, software or hardware, I woke up on Dec 1st to my account perma-banned. They claimed I was using 3rd party software or manipulating game files. I have been in IT for 20+ yeras, this is 100% false. Their anti-cheat is generating false positives, I know this, as I build my computers and know exactly what is on them. When we reach out to ********** for assistance, they provide a canned response, your ban remains, they take out money and lock us out of the product with no review and no attempt to even fix their broken anti-cheat detection methods.I know this is a reach, but hoping to shed some light on this morally corrupt practice.Thanks.Business Response

This is in regards to case number ********. It all started in August, when Microsoft Corporation charged my Debit Card $105.49 to renew Microsoft 365. I never purchased it, and have no use for it. This is the third time I am filing a complaint! The first time they said that they were refunding my money, and it would take **** days to show up in my bank account. They never refunded it.Now with case number ********, they said they called me and left a message. I never received either! Then they emailed me and said they were going to call me at a certain time, on a certain date. That didn't happen either. Now they sent me a message saying that they have closed the case; their case number **********. I have not had any contact with them, concerning this matter. This company is beyond ridiculous. You cant speak to a representative unless you have an account. Ive called all the numbers I found online for this merchant and they all direct you to go online. Well here is the sad part. With no account, you get no help!! I have been trying to reach them because unfortunately for me, I have been charged TWICE from their end. Why? I do not know but trying to reach them I wont be able to find out. Im a truck driver therefore never had time to use their products and plus paying over $100 for it from the looks of it is useless. I need my money back from them so Im waiting on cashapp which the account it was taken out of (an account I do have but dont use unless sending money to my niece). Microsoft needs better means of communicating for people like me with NO FREAKING ACCOUNT!! I need someone to contact me so I can be sure this never happens again to my account!Business Response

I had bought an Xbox Elite Series 2 controller in January of 2022 that came with a limited warranty, this controller cost me a little over $160 and is quite expensive for the type of hardware it is. I have had to already use my limited warranty twice because of various parts breaking on the controller and each time it gets set back to me it only lasts up to 2 months before it breaks. Each time I send it in I can not use the device for about a week and a half so as I attempt to send this device in for the third time this year it will total out to 4.5 weeks of the controller not being usable just by not being in my apartment due to transportation. I continue to struggle to have Microsoft address the quality control on the product so I am not wasting my gas money, money to print off the shipping label, and money wasted on lost time. Microsoft makes it extremely difficult to find any support on their website and I have been hosting a compliant with workers and was disconnected from the phone session and when I attempted to call back I was informed that "I had reached the phone call limits for the day." So, I was not able to get my situation resolved completely the second time I had to send my device back.Business Response
