To: Better Business Bureau From: *************************** Subject: Hawk Pest Defense August 2022, a salesman came to my residence, during dinnertime, and presented a sale pitch stating that if I sign up for their pest control they will come to my residence once a month to treat for pest. This salesperson presented a nine-page contract, and of course this isnt an excuse, I certainly did not have the time at the door to read the complete document, I went by what the salesperson stated to me at the time of the sale. I signed the contract for a one-year duration and once they did not come every month as the salesperson stated I called the company and that when I discovered that the treatment was for quarterly service and monthly payments. I honored the one-year contract and July 2023, I contacted the company to discontinue the one year contract. Well now you can imagine what has transpired since I am filing this complaint with the BBB. The person that I spoke with the first time I sated to him that this would be my last service and I updated the payment due to the card that was on file being compromised. Well, the person on the phone stated to me that the contract would be cancelled, I believed that would be the end of this scenario/service. Now, two months later I have been receiving harassing emails stating that I owe them money even though I made the final payment. I have called this company on 5 different occasions and spoke to managers as well as salespeople without any kind of resolution. Today, September 25, 2023, I was told that on the first call when I went to cancel the service the spokesperson added notes to my account that I renewed my service at a lower rate. This is far from the truth. No one stated this previously on the other calls that I have made trying to cancel this service. I am filing this complaint because of the way they do business to try and obtain more money from customers that want to cancel service. This is not a way to do business and it is stealing. I would like the BBB to look into these practices of Hawk Pest Control, they are behaving in an unscrupulous manner and trying to receive payments for services that were not completed.They keep telling me a manager will contact me, never does. getting either an email or text daily, it's harassment at this point. ***************************Business Response

This whole mess started with a the young sales guy approaching our home and telling us how we could benefit from their pest control services. I mentioned that money was tight and that my father recently passed in which he countered the situation with false promises and a reduced rate. We were told services would be monthly and even threw in various packages to help with our situation and budget. Everything was a lie. The sales rep said he would send someone out the same day in which nobody ever showed up. He acted concerned and wanted to apologize and rectify the situation. They sent someone over the following day in which the service tech said our contract did not come with anything promised. We wanted to give this company a try but it has been nothing but false promises and lies. We deserve a refund and our service to be terminated. This whole company seems to work on empty promises and misleading tactics.Business Response

My mom open a service account with them in 2021, the account service contract required her to keep the account open for 1 year of service of else they would be a termination, they required a credit card no problem. After 1 year, they removed the credit card on the file as promised and asked that she pay each time she had service. She has done that for 2 additional years.She has passed and after the last service the account was paid and has a zero balance.I requested to close the account after that.I received an email back that I needed to call the office, because there would be an early termination charge.I have the contract, there is ********** contract after 2022, I have contacted them and written a letter advising this and they keep sending me emails to call.I now get a email that beginning this mount there would be a price increase of 8%.My mom has died, there is ********** contract anymore,the balance is zero.This company is doing fraud financial acts.I dont feel I need to call, legally a written letter asking that should be ok.She has no balance and, if truly if there was a service contract then you cant change the rules and charges an increase no more than if a contract was cancelled early.Which in this case was not.Business Response

I tried to move my service with Hawx pest control to my new house that I just moved to in **********. I called and talked to customer service people through chat, and everyone said that an account manager would call me back in no more than 48 hours. No call back. I called again today, a week later, spoke to a nice young lady who sent me to the account manager line. Once again, I was put on a callback list. I went back to chat, and said I wanted to cancel my account. I got a message back that I would have to speak to an account manager in order to cancel my account. Hawx is basically holding my account hostage, because they won't let me speak to someone who can make changes on it. i want the account cancelled immediately so that I can find a different company.Business Response

Hawx pest services been charging me every month for a year and they have not provided services the month of May, July and August 2023. I made payments even though service is not provided. I called and told them that I wanted to cancel my contract due to the missing services and diferente excuses from different customer service personal, I made a final payment of $46.55 in order to have a ************ to proceed with my cancellation they always put me on hold for more then 30 minutes while they work on my account closing process and ended being sent to voicemail, I have made at least 6 calls the past two days without any luck., I also went to my online account there is no cancellation of service options and I notice that they removed all my past services information including the missing service that always appears as **************** There is only a schedule with the future service months Im so disappointed with this company.I NEED HELP TO CANCEL THE CONTRACT! I dont want them to keep Charging, I canceled my debit card but they anyway continue invoicing without giving the service, they are practically stealing our money, Im so tired of this company !Business Response

The problem occurred on Sept. 28. This company had representatives walking around the neighborhood. They offered my husband a free spraying of the house if you just initial here. The representative said, "I'll initial for you." He initialed and later someone came to the home to spray for insects. This representative did not tell my husband that they were opening an account and tying him to a contract. I contacted the company to cancel this illegal contract and was told that they could not speak with me because the account was in my husband's name. We then contacted them on 3-way, we were told that they could not speak with him because I was also on the line. When you call trying to cancel the contract, they keep you on hold ***** we spent 45 min. on hold). They seem as if they are trying to string us along so that we have to pay them money.The company's practice of signing persons into a contract without the person's knowledge is morally, ethically and professionally corrupt.Business Response

July 31, 2022 - Accepted pest control plan offered by door-to-door salesman outlined by him as follows: 1st treatment - $49.99; subsequent quarterly treatments @ $149.97 (3 monthly payments of $49.99 for 1 year; if canceled before the year was up, we would have to pay $249 for the 1st treatment. Treatments and payments completed as follows: 8/1/22 - 1st treatment & 1st payment $49.99; 8/30/22 - 2nd payment $49.99; 9/30/22 - 3rd payment $49.99; 10/30/22 - 4th payment $49.99; 11/3/22 - 2nd treatment (PIF); 11/30/22 - 5th payment $49.99; 12/30/22 - 6th payment $49.99; 1/30/23 - 7th payment $49.99; 2/7/23 - 3rd treatment (PIF); 2/30/23 - 8th payment $49.99; 3/30/23 - 9th payment $49.99; 4/28/23 - 10th payment $49.99; 5/11/23 - 4th treatment (PIF); 5/28/23 - 11th payment $49.99; 6/28/23 - 12th payment $49.99; 7/28/23 - 13th payment $49.99; 8/17/23 - 5th treatment (PIF). In July 2023, I called to notify Hawx that after the final treatment we paid for, we wanted no further treatments. We had fulfilled the contract. You can see by the dates listed that payments were now earlier in the month, while treatments were getting later. I called on 8/1/23 (one year from original treatment) to confirm cancellation of services. We started receiving texts stating we still owe $53.99 (charged 8/28/23). I called again on 9/5/23 and was told I would have to talk to a financial rep and they would call me back. No one ever called back. I called again on 9/20/23 and was transferred from the financial department back to customer service. I asked to talk to a manager, but was told managers don't take phone calls. After recounting the situation several times, the customer service rep said, "I'm closing your account. Have a nice day." and she hung up on me. I assumed all was taken care of. But I started receiving texts again on 9/27, 9/29, 10/1, & today 10/3. Was told today I now owed $58.99 (8/28/23 + $5 late fee), and offered me a discount of $20! I said I would contact BBB and hung up.Business Response

I had Hawx pert control services provide services to my prior house ****************************, ****** ** for roughly a year. In April of 2023 my family decided to move so I called (multiple times) and spoke to a number of Hawx representative to cancel our Pest Control Services in the beginning of May. In June 2023 we sold the 287 ******** way home, also in June I spoke to another Hawx rep who i reiterated that the service had been cancelled when they called me about the May balance. They continue to bill my account for ******************** through September with a now $400+ balance. I have spoken to them a number of times and told them we have moved and the account was cancelled in May but they continue to harass us. I have asked if they could even show service tickets of their techs even visiting the home since May and they said they could not. At this point I am filing this report seeking a resolution for them to stop seeking payments for services that were cancelled.Business Response
