Leaf filter wrote an estimate and backdated the estimate to create the appearance of meeting the 3-day waiting period for the gutter covers that were installed on 10/14/22 for which $5,880 was invoiced for a 5-hour long job (for which the materials cost was no more than $500). This prevented me from researching and learning of the class action lawsuit that is pending against LeafFilter. If the 3-day rule had been followed, this job never would have been authorized by me. There are numerous additional problems including the installer having cut the existing sturdy galvanized steel gutter straps and replacing them with flimsy brackets which has now caused noticeable sagging of the gutters plus the roofing shingles sticking up by about 1.5 inches every place an existing bracket was cut off (which is an eyesore plus water can now wick up under the shingles and cause leakage problems). The installer also added gutter extensions in two spots that are noticeably crooked and that were installed with minimal overlap and no support braces so there is no way the extensions will support the snow/ice load. The manager, **** from Saint Cloud, MN, responded to a photo of the extensions by stating that whomever installed the extensions did a terrible job but he denied that LeafFilter installed the extensions despite there being before and after photos. I initially proposed to settle by paying $2,500 which would have still been $200 per hour for the labor plus $500 for materials, but **** declined and said that $2,500 would be below his cost. But now that I've discovered that the sturdy brackets were cut and the gutters are already sagging, I now believe that my home needs new gutters since what were perfectly good gutters now with the faulty installation are already sagging and are likely going to fail. Each area where the shingles are sticking up which is every 5 feet also needs to be repaired. Please help to remedy this situation and to alert others to avoid this company.

      Additional documentation provided by consumer:

      ********.jpg

****, the Leaf Filter manager in Saint Cloud, MN, made the bogus claim that his company didn’t install the incorrectly installed gutter extensions.

      *********************-*****************************************r.jpeg

Two of the defect types are visible:

      1) If you zoom in, you can see the raised shingles in each spot where one of the sturdy galvanized steel brackets was cut.

      2) If you compare the shingle line on the roof with the top edge of the gutter, you can already see a couple of spots where the gutter is sagging (and this is occurring without any snow or ice load).

      *********************************************************************

Three of the defects are visible:

       1) If you zoom in, you can see the raised shingles in each spot where one of the sturdy galvanized steel brackets was cut.

      2) If you compare the shingle line on the roof with the top edge of the gutter, you can already see a couple of spots where the gutter is sagging (and this is occurring without any snow or ice load).

      3) A noticeable twist in one of the incorrectly installed gutter extensions is visible.

[Consumer provided additional documentation to BBB.]

      *********************************************************************

If you zoom in, you can see an example of one of the 36 existing sturdy galvanized steel gutter straps that were cut off using a batter powered Sawzall.  This approach was never explained up front by the Leaf Filter subcontractor and would not have been authorized.

The roofing is now noticeably sticking up by about 1.5 inches in each spot where a strap was cut off which is highly problematic for water being able to wick under the roofing and to cause leakage problems and water damage. The replacement aluminum straps are very flimsy in comparison.  The gutters are already sagging in a couple of places (with no snow or ice load).

The requested resolution is for us to obtain a bid from a local gutter contractor to fix the multiple issues caused by the Leaf Filter subcontractor (and for Leaf Filter to write off their invoice).  We would be happy to return their 139 feet of gutter mesh to them upon completion of the repairs (the same gutter mesh which is the subject of the class action lawsuit which we didn’t find out about due to the 3-day rule not being adhered to).

      *********************************************************************

In some spots where the existing sturdy, galvanized steel bracket was cut the singles are sticking up by a couple of inches.  Two such areas are visible in this photo if you zoom in.  This company destroyed a perfectly installed set of gutters and have introduced multiple problems and uncertainty about when the now poorly  installed gutters are likely to fail.  The biggest concern, however, is the potential for leakage from water wicking under the raised shingles.  I believe that any reputable roofing company will indicate that this issue should be resolved immediately due to winter weather being upon us.

      *********************************************************************

Crooked end caps which were installed incorrectly with only two inches of overlap and no support braces.  They are highly likely to fail under any significant snow and ice load.

      ******************************************************

Add’l pic showing the twists in the two extensions.  The supervisor from Saint Cloud, MN, ****, proposed to remedy this problem by removing these two extensions and installing two end caps (this is a really bad idea and not even an option since the water would then have nowhere to drain - - downspouts would need to be installed in both locations and not end caps).

Leaf Filter had me execute a PoA but is still choosing not to call me to try to reach a settlement (ref the attached v-mssg left for my father today).

That seems a bit disingenuous of them since they could have simply proposed a settlement in writing in the first place rather than requiring the inconvenience of putting a Power of Attorney in place (which they’re now choosing not to honor).

      Thanks much and please advise,

Gutter protection is not working. Water cascades over and behind the gutter. Dozens of attempts to repair, many unresponsive calls made and now manager says it's not their responsibility that the roof is issue. Roof never leaked prior to their product installation. All calls/communication documented and several service appointments were no shows. Debris collects on guard requires regular cleaning and gutters are filthy due to buildup. Product is defective and they compromised roof by their incorrect install which is now causing damage to foundation and concrete. Obvious scam of elderly person!

Leaf Filter installed gutters and leaf filters on my home. They leak. 3 different times people have come out and I get a different story each time. The last two people who came out said they needed to replace the drip edge due to improper installation. Then I get a call from someone else, wanting to inspect it again. They damaged my roof as well.

This company has done nothing but let us down. After the system was installed we had a snow storm and realized this was not for us. Their brochure states as the snow melts, it will melt into your gutter, through your downspout, and away from your home, mitigating any chances of water-related home damages. This was not our experience. We experienced snow melting and dripping on to the sidewalks causing dangerous ice patches to form and also creating wet spots on the side of our house from drip splash. We contacted them to let them know we werent happy. They said they would send someone out. They suggested filters with larger holes so we tried that. When the larger holes didnt work we contacted them again and they sent someone out. We spoke with him and again stated we were not happy so since it was 3 months after the install we requested a refund in writing and of course no response. When we contacted them again 5 months after the install they said let us send someone out to make sure everything was installed correctly. We went through many more months of no shows and unreturned phone calls. Each time we contact Leaf Filter we request a refund and we are sent to a regional manager. When we contact them they say this has to be handled by a different manager and they would forward this information to them and they will contact us. No one ever does. We recently called to request a refund and were told its too late for a refund and if you wanted them to come out and remove the filters they would have to charge us. Once again we talked with a local manager to request a refund and our call was forwarded to another manager who was supposed to get in touch with us. So far no response. This company will not fix our problem nor will they respond. We have experienced nothing but extremely poor customer service.

I purchased a Leaf Filter system and it was installed in December 2022. I noticed issues with the system immediately but Leaf Filter said they would resolve the issue in the spring. They removed the gutter spikes from my gutters, causing leaks when it rains. They also did not cut back my shingles as they agreed to prior to installation which leads to excessive water draining over the gutters and down to the foundation of the house. The system also causes dangerous ice build up in the winter with ice dams that can fall and hit people as well as slow dripping water that cause steps to become icy and dangerous. Additionally, the tech that installed the system recommend I buy new gutters after he installed my system. He also did a poor job installing the system, leaving gaps and uneven guards as well as making a mess on my property that he did not clean up.I have contacted Leaf Filter support at 10 times and they have sent techs out multiple times but they literally come and leave without doing anything. All I want at this point is for the gutter spikes to be reinstalled, or at least have the holes filled so water doesn't leak, and the shingles cut back so the system actual allows water to flow in to the gutters. If they cannot provide that, then I want my money back in full as the system is worthless and their warranty is worthless since they won't fix the problems.

On September 8th, 2022, I signed a contract for the cleaning, repairs, and coating of current gutters, as well as installation of new gutter filters. Yesterday, October 28, 2022, was installation day. Have you seen the installer? Because I haven’t. No phone call, no text. Nothing. Finally he returned our text to him in THE EVENING explaining that the company had ordered the wrong parts for his previous job; but he would be here “tomorrow, my day off” to start and complete the job. Surprise, surprise, he did not show up, did not call.

A quick phone call to customer service revealed the reason he didn’t show up was because he DID NOT FINISH the job before ours and had to return to THAT house today. So the lying installer had no intention of showing up at my house. Customer Service’s solution was to reschedule with lying, cheating employee. No thanks. We need a different person. No problem someone will call us Monday. Not acceptable.

I call customer service again. This time I am told “I’m not authorized to help you.” What is she there for??? She transfers me to “service” because “they’ll be able to help you.”

Waited on hold 35 minutes and was directed to voice mail. AND it turns out that office was already closed! Not to worry. They’ll “call me back within 24 hours, THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY!”’

Who runs a business this way? I also called the two numbers our salesperson gave us. No answer. Are you sensing a pattern?

I will not wait another eight weeks for this slip shod business to perform what is laid out in the contract! I left a message for “service” that I expect completion by the end of next week!

      We are infuriated!

May 27th 2022 we purchased Leaf Filter. A team of contractors came out and installed the product. In fact the installer handed me his card as he was leaving the job sight and said that he works on referrals and that he charges half of what I was charged by my leaf guard sales person. Recently our roof was inspected and I was notified that the Leaf Filter product was improperly installed, that sections of the gutter did have have the product installed at all, and they confirmed that we were charged double for the installation compared to other homes int he area. Furthermore, during some heavier rains we have noticed an abundance amount of water bye passing the system and rolling onto the foundation. Based on the product not being installed correctly, the job not being finished, and the admittance of me being ripped off I would like to get this product off of my house and a full refund for fear that it can cause water damage.

I entered into a contract with LeafFilter on 9/5/22 to do the following: Completely clean out the existing gutters and downspouts. Seal the gutters with 50 year silicone. Repair any damaged gutters and downspouts. Realign the gutters. Install hidden brackets in the gutters for reinforcement. Install the LeafFilter gutter protection with Life time transferable warranty manufacturers money back guarantee. The cost of the project was $12,519. It took one man less than six hours to do the job. The gutters are presently leaking at each joint in the entire gutter system. I called LeafFilter to complain about installation and they sent one man who said he was told to fix one leak. He said he fixed three joints. I have called LeafFilter back at least six times to come fix the rest of the leaks and they have not sent anyone. I think I was grossly overcharged for this job and obviously the job they did was not acceptable.

Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.

As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
