I was happy with results when i had a pipe burst in my basement. They were prompt, friendly and were reasonable with their rates. The guys who worked on it where super nice and did a great job. Then I called to have a disposal put in my kitchen. I got a serviceman who was telling me how great he was at everything. I bought the disposal at ***** but was charged $294 to install with Roto Rooter. When I called and told them that was extremely high and that Lowes would have installed it for $130; they looked it up and the serviceman had charged me for a dishwasher installation. The next day he had to come back because he forgot to take plug out of the disposal as my dishwasher would not drain. They told me they would refund me the difference. Never received the check after a week, and called the manager. They told me that their ****************** just cut the checks and mine would go out the next day. Its been way over a week and no refund. They really have some good employees at Roto Rooter. They work hard and are friendly and on time. But not this time. Still waiting on refund!

Was promised by the initial agent that the work would be covered by my insurance, only to have them do work my insurance says was unnecessary for the job (leaking line to the kitchen sink causing damage to the floor). After initially coming in 5k+ over what my insurance would cover they removed some of the fees but still ended up 3k over. Avoid this company.

Called to have Roto Rooter come take care of a backed up toilet, at first they told me I was in their service area, then she changed her mind and told me I wasn't in their service area, very wishy washy, couldn't tell me anything about a service charge or an approximate cost. I have seen Roto Rooter trucks at 3 different neighbors house, which is why I called them, so I know I am in their service area. Lady on the phone didn't sound like she knew anything about their business. I finally hung up and called another company that was more professional.

I called Roto Rooter out on 9/9/2024 to clear a blockage in my line. I was informed by Jordan a camera person will come and inspect my lines. They never showed up. Two weeks later the same issue happened that was supposed to be resolved. Tech John was dispatched to my home. I informed John the only access to my main line is to pull up the toilet. Tech John told me that he doesn’t want to pull the toilet’s. John spent 45 minutes in my home just to pull the toilet. John was very unprofessional John made several comments on how he hates homes in Illinois. John left my home dirty, and wasted water in my home which destroyed my shoes. After John pulled one toilet he was asked will he be pulling my other toilet to snake the line. John refused and said it should be fixed now. Not even 18 hours later we still had the same issue. Call back in and spoke with supervisor Clayton which was very unpleasant and unprofessional as well. When explaining the situation and my displeasure with the second tech John. Clayton cut me off very rudely and ask “Do I know about plumbing.” Not one time did Clayton apologize for his tech unprofessional behavior. Speaking with Clayton I understood why his tech John was so comfortable with being unprofessional and disrespectful to my home. After being asked “ Do I know about plumbing.” I ended the call with the supervisor Clayton. I than received a call back from Clayton who then expressed another tech would come out and both toilets will be pulled and snaked. Al’Cee came out and snaked both toilets. Al’Cee was very professional he explained that the camera will be out on Monday. Al’Cee explained what may be the cause for my back up. He also cleaned his work area. If Al’Cee and Jordan would’ve been the only tech’s I would have given a 5 star rating. Unfortunately to have been disrespected by not only a tech that left my home unclean but also be disrespected by someone in leadership is mind blowing. I do not recommend this company!

Do not hire these guys, even if they're the only plumber. You're better off doing a DIY job or hiring an individual expert. I hired them for a simple toilet gasket replacement because I just didn't want to do it myself (I regret this now). They categorized it as a toilet rebuild, which basicallymeans they'll change out the toilet parts in the tank, (flapper, fill valve, etc). I was charged 689$. Literally highwayrobbery. Pathetic price. It took the tech 15 minutes to complete the job, and probably 30 min to go out and shop for parts. By no stretch of the imagination could you justify this high price tag. They're just blatant crooks. However that wasn't my issue, it was distasteful, but I just decided to pay it, as long as my toiletwas going to be good to go. As soon as the tech finished the job of replacing my toilet parts and left, my toilet's fill valve started to consistently run every 10 min or so. The tank was now losing water slowly, which it was not doing before! This only happened after the plumber worked on it. I called them up to come back and take a look, as the job is under a 6 month warranty. They sent the same plumber to take a look, and he came in with a salty and pretentious attitude even asking me why I didn't call back the same day if it started then, which I let him know was due to my busy schedule. A very pretentious question and his way of basicallyaccusing me of lying. Just salty childish behaviour on his part. Anyway to make a long story short he tried changing the flapper (again), which didn't do anything, and left telling me that he cannot pinpoint why it's doing that, and that my best bet is to just replace the toilet. Some experts lol. I reached out to the manager to let them know that the plumber they sent to change a gasket, now caused me a new issue with the continuously running fill valve. My toilet was NOT doing that prior to him working on it. The manager dismissed my concern and also advised I replace the toilet, and basically

We had work done at our house by Roto-Rooter on 9/12. The work went unfinished with no contact from Roto-Rooter. I called them on 9/17 and did not receive a call back until they tried to collect the final payment for the work. I finally got ahold of them on 9/18 and let them know the work was incomplete and I would wait to pay after they completed the work, per our contract. They came back that day and completed the work. On that same day, between the hours of 10:30 and 3:00, my husband and I received 10 calls/voicemails from them wanted to collect the final payment. They also texted and emailed. They attempted to charge the card on file without our permission. My husband and I both work in jobs where we dont have access to our phones. In my opinion, the this behavior is excessive and aggressive. I feel like it is unacceptable to harass us for payment on the balance not even an hour after they completed the work. I called them today, 9/19 and paid the balance owed and I spoke with Aaron about the service. He stated that they would not change their behaviors and would continue aggressively collecting on their balances owed with their customers. I did not feel like Aaron was apologetic and willing to change their business tactics. I would not recommend working with this company at all.

PREDATORY PRACTICE: That's how I would describe Roto-rooters actions and behavior. I was quoted nearly $15,000 BY Roto-rooter for a plumbing problem that only required a $12 part to fix. Roto-rooter cleaned out a blockage in my sewer line, which cost me $600. The next day the sent someone from Roto-rooter came out to put a camera down the sewer line and inspect the repair. After the inspection was done, I was told to repair the line, it was going to cost nearly $15,000 for a full line replacement -- and it might even cost a lot more if they have to dig up the road - as high as $40,000 or more. I won't give the person's name but his Roto-rooter title was Excavation Field Supervisor. As a result I obtained two second opinions: both of them confirm that there was no more blockage in the line and the other problem in the house (there were two total problems) could be fixed with a "Gripper" cap on my sewer stack. The gripper cap (which costs approx $12 at ******) fixed the problem successfully. Shameful and predatory. That's how roto-rooter does business in my experience.

I have used Roto-Rooter various times since I became a homeowner. I hired them for the replacement of my water heater when it broke down. I gave authority to fix everything on the water heater. They even suggest to increase the size of the water heater due to the people I have at my home. I said yes I approve. The installation was done and notice the expansion tank was not replaced because the plumber Said it's good. I should have told him then and there to replace it. But since he suggest it's good it does not have to be replaced I confined on him on his advice. Months later the expansion tanked started leaking and damaged was done in the water heater room. Due to confining with the plumber suggestion that the tank was good I have to deal with the damage. Any other plumber with common sense will suggest to change out the expansion tank as well. But Roto Rooter policy that suggest it's different work. I was not very happy with this outcome. Then I have them replaced the expansion tank for an additional charge and the next day it started leaking because the plumber did not install it right. He came back and fix it and said " I apologize I did not tight it well." The icing on the cake Roto-Rooters plumbers supervisor was suppose to access the damaged that was cause by the leaking expansion tank did not show and I had to call them to come look at the damage. Now it's weeks and have not receive a call from them to provide me with a quote for the damage to give to my insurance to fix the damage. Because i have to put a claim to fix the damage that the expansion tank has caused. My advice I would suggest not use Roto-Rooter for plumbing work. They will only do work to company standards and if they see other issues in your home they won't tell you until it becomes a problem. For them to fix for an additional price. Two Representatives have reached out but have not responded. The Slogan "We will drain your pipes not your wallet". Definetly drain my wallet.

Good morning, A roto-rooter representative finally called me and was telling me the policies that there w-2 must follow, they charge by a fat flare, and comapred there services to their an auto repair garage. I did not say a word and heard them out no interruptions. When it came to my turn to talk they kept interrupting. How can I discuss my situation and how my services went with the company if I keep getting interrupted. This not the presidential debate. Customer service is to hear what the customer has to say. If a customer is wrong you let them know why they wrong after they explain their situation. But if a customer is explaining the situation do not interrupted them in the middle of the explanation. It just common sense. I do not know what else to say. I'm trying my best to resolve this issue that I'm paying out of my pocket and now my time. Roto-Rooter needs to look over there policies or change how to do business. I spoke with many plumbers and rule of thumb is to if a new appliance is been replace and it will be working with an old appliance of course change the appliance. Same thing with her example of the car. Brakes are different to engine repair. But if the tires are worn out and the mechanic sees it. They will insist to change your tires even it still good. Both are still part of the wheel the brakes stops and tires keep the vehicle moving. I am not plumber but if I do research and see that the water heater and expansion do work together then I am not wrong. Why is your representative using an anology between mechanics and plumbers? I am not happy with this company and still do not recommend. Also, they were trying to explain to me about how insurance works. I do not why they had to when they were suppose to call me and tell me o provide them my claim number and the insurance I'm using to fix the damage there company caused. No communication from this company. I waited so long to get response since the damage. Until today this morning they finally called.

Despite the company's market reputation and high charges, their service was unsatisfactory. I have dealt with many plumbing issues over the years, but this experience was notably poor. I have reported the company to the Better Business Bureau to warn others about their inadequate service and focus on profit over customer care. I hope no one else has to endure such a frustrating experience with their service.

Roto-Rooter was hired to perform a drain pipe jetting. Roto-Rooter's equipment damaged my drain system and they are unable to remove their equipment from my property. They cut the hose, left their equipment and quoted me 5x the original cost of the service to resolve the issue their negligence created. We are now going to small claims court to have this company held accountable for what they should have done in the first place; stand behind the quality of their work, complete services for their customers and not attempt to charge unsuspecting people massive sums of money to resolve their issue. As you can see from other reviews, Roto-Rooter has a pattern of trying to upcharge exorbitant amounts of money after an initial service request. Please don't fall victim to the same scam that we are now dealing with. Very disappointed with the lack of integrity of the Roto-Rooter company.
