  Paychex is extremely incompetent. I was charged twice for HR services I never used by Spencer K*****— around $1900. It got so bad that I had to call my bank to put a stop on their payments so that I could still pay my employees. Paychex had the audacity to offer a “credit” to my account! Stay FAR AWAY!! These people do not communicate or respond to emails! They are great at communicating in the beginning because they want to sell you the service, but once you sign up they stop.

  Awful. High turnover of payroll specialists resulting in constant new hire messing up while learning. Unprocessed payroll and late payments. I submitted eed/IRS tax. Unresponsive and lack of communication between departments. This company is an absolute nightmare.

  I referred a client to use Paychex for their new corporation. This is a one person payroll. Paychex made gross errors on every possible action. They had such an incompetent payroll rep who admitted she had over 1000 unread emails. It took a senior regional manager 4 levels above the rep to get one payroll done. Then... there was still an error Paychex remitting withheld state taxes, so the client has $1300 in penalties. After two weeks trying to get that handled and reimbursed, I have decided to do the payroll myself. I could have provided 10 years of payroll service in the time wasted to get ONE payroll for one person done correctly. In the meantime, I get multiple emails per week from various Paychex reps to offer more services. They cannot even do payroll, yet want an upsell! I cannot wait to remove every client from Paychex, including our firm. They are a joke and it starts with management.

  I retired and, at the beginning of March, asked for quarterly distributions beginning April 1. I'm in Europe and need the money for rent as I'm going to school over here. I'm in the process of negotiating for an apartment and NEEDED that distribution by April 1 or day or two later for downpayments. I went to the 401k Paychex website and it acknowledges that I put in for a distribution April 1 and that I will receive that distribution APRIL 17!!! WTF??? No indication from them that there would be a 2 WEEK delay!! Are they making money off holding my distribution for another 2 weeks? This is totally unacceptable and I'll be looking into rolling my account over to my IRA where at least I can get much better service and quicker distributions.

  I was screwed over by this company on four different occasions. I was lied to by two separate sales people which cost me thousands of dollars. I was audited by their workman’s comp affiliate which is normal but I was aided if I agreed w the outcome which I did not. They told me too bad and took the full amount of money equating to over $7000 out of my account without my permission. After they took the first draw out of my account, I put a stop payment on Paychex so they change the name of the ACH so that the stop payment wouldn’t work and took the money out without my permission. Unbelievable how they treat so-called customers.

  Please stay way from this company. Highly irresponsible, unethical and just overall incompetent. They made mistakes on a dozen of our employees W2s for 2022. We have been in talks with them since January and now it is the end of March. You will get a generic response of "it takes 2 days to 1 week for W2-Cs and 6-8 weeks for amended W2s." In reality, you will never receive any of these things. We've involved our lawyers at this point. Our specialist was always "out of office" but another representative would tell us "he's in a meeting". And a few weeks ago we were informed that he is no longer with the company. We got a new representative and we had to start this process all over again. Despicable. Now we are being told that we should advise our employees to file for an extension on their tax returns. Laughable. There should be an option to give 0 stars.

  The employees at Paychex have to be the most incompetent representatives I've ever had the displeasure of working with. I have been trying to get my issue resolved since November of 2022... They can't even send a check correctly. I've filled out two forms with the correct payee and they've sent two checks with my name rather than the company it's being rolled over to. I've talked to about 6 different representatives and none of them know what they're doing or how to resolve the issue. I just hope this third form that I send doesn't take 1 month to process like the last. I'm so glad that we terminated services with them as a company because they are a nightmare.

  I am an employee; my employer has been using Paychex for several years. I didn't have a problem until recently, when I took out a loan from my 401(k). I agreed to a monthly payment automatically deducted from my bank account. For the last three months, Paychex has failed to withdraw a payment. I've opened multiple tickets and spoken with multiple representatives who assure me the problem is on their end and is fixed, and then I'm right back again a few weeks later. They also informed me they're unable to change my payment method. So I have to manually manage making payments that were set up, by Paychex, to be automatically withdrawn.

  Where to start. I don’t know how this company is in business and how they have a customer base. They’re supposed to be a service company that simplify payroll. Well let me tell you they do the exact opposite. I have never had a worse experience with a service provider. It first started when they were charging me more then the quoted price for weekly payroll. I was quoted $36 for 6 employees. First bill was $50, then over $100. They said I was turning in my payroll late. Nothing had changed on my end they were just wrong and would not refund the money.
  I have one employee who has lost over $600 to a random account the popped up on his account. Paychex removed it and was back on his account the next day. Paychex said it was fraudulent and they couldn’t do anything about it. Gave us the number for FBI.
  Now I’m receiving late bills from the irs. Paychex didn’t even pay my 941 from the third quarter of 2022. They have under paid my 940 and I’m sure more to come. I don’t understand taxes but my CPA does and is looking into if my company was charged by Paychex for the taxes they didn’t pay.
  My Paychex specialist is never available and when she is she says its all being taken care of. Nothing is being done. I’m surprised my employees even get paid.
  What they are doing should be criminal. What a waste of time and energy.

  Exact situation as Jeff A. This payroll company is complete trash. And everyone that works for them has an IQ of ZERO. Been fighting with them for 3 months over my 401k from a previous employer. They have no clue what they are doing. This company absolutely does not deserve to be in business. I say they are the best, worst payroll companies for the simple fact there are worse ones out there. Which is definitely not saying much at all. If I could give them a -5 star I would, they definitely deserve it. Rule #1, Don't mess with people's money, if you do, be intelligent enough to know what you're doing. This place should be closed due to incompetence alone. If you ever meet someone that says they work here. End the conversation. Walk away. Nobody deserves that influence of dumbing down. Paychex = GARBAGE.
