Absolutely the worst! They screwed up payroll tax and medical deductions for employees. Tried to contact them multiple times over several weeks and they never responded. I had to keep calling them and message them and still not resolved. Totally incompetent.

payroll errors period after period with different payroll specialists. Deducted payroll from the business bank account twice which was over $20,000 overdraft. Pay staff for less hours that what it was sent!

Terrible customer service and communication. They took out over $600 from my account without any notification. I am a new business with only 2 employees so funds are tight. All they had to do was tell me that this start up fee was going to be taken out and on what date so I could plan accordingly. Once I learned that they took the money I started calling and emailing to complain. Then I suddenly received and email Invoice stating they were taking the money out. All of this after the fact and after I complained. I am pretty sure it is against state and federal laws to just take money from someone's account without prior notification. I proceeded to cancel, followed all of their instructions to cancel service. They said they would return my money in 3-5 business days. I filed on 7/25, still haven't received my money. I keep calling and emailing and getting excuses. First it was entered wrong in the system, then a certain person was out of the office. This company has no idea what they are doing and they have the worst customer service and communication. Save time and money and go with another company that has good reviews and you will see most don't charge excessive start up fees either.

I would give zero stars if possible. Do NOT trust Paychex to handle your business affairs (at least if you're a small business). They were a nightmare. We have incurred thousands of dollars in late fees from tax agencies where Paychex has failed to file proper taxes. We finally switched payroll companies, but still are having problems getting them to pay for their mistakes. I have been fighting with them for over a year and am finally just paying my fines to be done with it and will determine further legal action. It's amazing when you switch companies and have no further problems! Horrible customer service and accountability.

Starting a small business we decided to try Paychex for payroll. They explained we would be charged $40 a month max in fees as we have two employees. Lies. Ended up being charged $90+ in monthly fees, then they charge for 401k. Incorrect amount were being taken from accounts for the 401k which we called and spoke to representatives 5 plus times and it was still incorrect. Emails, calls you name it. All we kept being was transferred around to numerous people. Every time we called no notes were placed on our account from the 10 people we spoke to the week before. Once we had enough we swapped out payroll companies and asked to have our 401k contributions be stopped and also that we wanted to keep the 401 k as is for now. Then we get charged $1500 and out plans completely cancelled. They claimed they had signed paperwork from us when it was a digital print of a signature. This never happened. Then we kept getting charged even after the fact $150 plus. We had to place stop payments at our bank. We spent hours on the phone or on hold with Paychex. Customer service was absolutely horrible and I would never wish this on any small business owner. Never ever again.

If I could leave negative starts I would. This company is the worst payroll company I have every worked with and everyone at my current job which has hundreds of employees I'm sure would agree. Everyone in my office specifically has suffered with things such as late paychecks, incorrect tax amounts taken out, incorrect race and cities listed, incorrect pay amounts given (has been both more and less,) messing up the amount of child support to come out of a check. All of these things which were verified with the employees and superiors to have been correct on our end and ruled as a Paychex error. I'm confident at this point all they do is make errors. CURRENTLY- my federal taxes being withheld have been 0 and I didn't notice for a couple months. I called in to get this issue rectified and they told me to 'fix it yourself online'. I asked them to verify the forms I had submitted and the worker went over them with me and she repeated back to me how they were filled out which was all correct. While trying to get this issue fixed of having no federal taxes taken out I was transferred 8 times after repeatedly giving my name and SOCIAL SECURITY number to the most incompetent people I think I have ever spoke to, I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor approximately 3 times during this and was told no twice and the third time told I would receive a call back and I still have not. The copy I work for used a different company and then that company was bought by Paychex UNFORTUNATELY. The number of mistakes and issues in the last 6-9 months make it difficult to keep track of what is even happening.

I WAS A CUSTOMER FOR SEVERAL YEARS
AND IN THE LAST 2 YEARS THIER SERVICE WENT DOWN HILL ALMOST DAILY
THEY MESSED UP THE PAYROLL EVERY WEEK AND WHEN WE COMPLAINED THEY JUST GAVE US A CREDIT AND DID NOT FIX THE INTERAL PROBLEMS
THIS WENT ON FOR MONTHS AND WHEN I SAID I WAS DROPPING THEM
THEY OFFERED FOR FREE SERVICES AND
AT THE END THEY WERE STILL JUST A POORLY MANAGED PAYROLL SERVICE
LAST OF ALL I PULL MY 401 FOR ALL EMPLOYEES AND THEY FINED ME EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT HAVE MY PAYROL SERVICE ANY MORE

      DON"T USE THIS COMPANY EVER!
Our company transition to Paychex in Fall of 2019 when the company we previously were using was bought out by *** and at that time they could not handle some of our unique payroll needs. It has been a non-stop disaster ever since. We have had 8 different "specialists" none of whom are knowledgeable in union based companies. We once had payroll delayed by 3 days (yes, a severe legal violation of our CBA!) because our specialist didn't want to handle our import issue - I spent two days on the phone with their general help line before a director level supervisor had to have one of his employees (from a different company/department) help us execute the transactions so we could process payroll. They constantly claim they "can't" do thing but these are for tasks that their predecessors have completed and that I myself CAN do but SHOULD NOT have to based on the service level agreement. I have about a dozen documented violations of our service agreement. We are seriously considering legal action.
