We filed a complaint with the BBB a while back about recieving misleading spam in the mail. We were told by the company through the complaint that they would not mail us again. We recieved another mailing this week. This business has an "F" rating due to scamming. When will the BBB step in to stop this company?

I am receiving unsolicited mailers which are deceitfully disguised as a domain renewal letter from MySafeDomain. These mailers were never solicited and we have never done business with this company. MySafeDomain is a spin off name from Domain Networks to try to scam people to renewing this junk offer. The letter we received will be forwarded to both USPIS and FTC.

On several occasion (most recently April 10, 2023), I have received deceptive letters from this business trying to trick me into moving my domain name (at a greatly inflated 10 fold rate) to them instead of the reputable company that I deal with. I am savvy to this, but I deal with many older clients that I fear might fall for this scam. Most recently they have tried to convince me to pay for a domain during a period that it is already pre-paid for. This is just stealing. This company does nothing reputable and should be shut down.

I am rejecting this response because: Although the stated text is included, it is very small. It is clear to me that this mailing is intended to deceive un-savvy recipients into thinking they are renewing their domain. Additionally, whatever service that is provided for this exorbitant fee provides no benefit at all to the purchaser. This is a scam that checks just enough legal boxes to stay in business, but a scam none-the-less.

The ********* ********** ******* ****** *********** received a solicitation from Domain Networks in January 2023 for $289.00. We are a nonprofit organization and have limited funds already. A demand letter was sent via certified mail to their addresses in New Mexico and North Carolina, demanding that Domain Networks return all funds paid to their organization, otherwise we will be pursuing legal action. After confirming that this demand letter was received at their NM address on April 5th, 2023 with certified mail, I began mysteriously receiving phishing emails from the "Better Business Bureau" regarding a complaint. Knowing I had not filed this complaint yet, I knew that these were ill-timed phishing attempts, and promptly deleted these poor efforts at further defrauding our organization and individuals involved. Now that Domain Networks allegedly feels the need to further defraud our nonprofit organization, we will be pursuing legal action through the law firm that represents the association, and we will be contacting the Albuquerque Field Office of the FBI.

I have been getting these fake bills in the mail for a while now. I knew it was a scam situation from the beginning and I contacted the company to let them know how terrible it was that they were doing this confusing crap to people. I then asked to be put on their DNC list but seeing as I am filing a complaint, this did not happen. They continue to send us this same thing over and over. I also think its funny how all of the business responses to complaints on here, are just the owner copy and pasting the contents of the letter like that is some kind of excuse. The owner KNOWS what they are doing is just despicable and wrong but that certainly will not stop them. I write this complaint in hopes that the owner grows a spine and stops trying to scam people with this stupid pointless service that actually doesn't do anything. I will say that on all of these complaints, the owner has offered a refund. BUT, that only happens when they get caught by the people they are extorting money out of.

We were offered by mail an offer from Domain Networks, PO Box ****, **************, ** ***** to get a domain site in the name of "**************.***" and we were asked to send a check to above referenced business in the amount of $289.00 for an annual domain listing from the period of 8/8/2022-8/8/2023. Well I checked and tried to google this domain name we paid for and it comes up to a foreign country's soccer site NOT *** **** ** ************'s site we were supposed to have which was "**************.***". The invoice states it is for annual dues. The check for $289.00 check#***** dated 7/22/2022 cleared our bank account on 08/03/2022. We want to file a complaint against this business as they are ignoring my attempts to make contact with them and we would like a refund in full or turn over to our legal department if you can't help us. We hope it won't come to that and this snafu is just a clerical error but we cannot put our trust in a company that will not reply to our attempts. Please file this as a bona fide complaint against this company. And if you have the power to get our funds back that would be great. Let me know what else needs doing in this matter please.

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out. The letter you received is NOT an invoice but rather an offer to join our online directory and you are not obligated to pay. The letter is part of a marketing campaign for our service. We ARE NOT a domain holder; we maintain a directory of the country's leading websites, as you clearly paid in error I have gone ahead and refunded you. Is *** * ***** ** ************ ** ********** the best address for a refund check? As far as me "ignoring you" I am the only one who checks this email and I was out sick with covid for several days and then a family member passed away right after, so as you can imagine I had thousands of emails upon my return, as well as many missed calls and it has taken me until today to get most of them caught up.

I received a letter in the mail (Date of Notice February 8th, 2023), that was formatted like an invoice. In bold was my website's domain, including registrar and name server information.

My issue is that it's formatted to look like an invoice, thus being structurally deceptive. In bold and large font at the top and bottom are "ANNUAL WEBSITE DOMAIN LISTING: $289" and "WE APPRECIATE YOUR BUSINESS".
In the middle typed with smaller print, it has the details, stating that they're not a domain registrar and that it's a solicitation. At a glance, it would be easy for a purchasing department in a company to just process it like an invoice.

I went to the directory listing and there were businesses listed there arranged by city. It looked like it scraped data from ****** (Map, star rating, business information, and a photograph). So while it does provide a directory listing, what's unclear is what value is provided. Using ***************** service, we see that for the 4th quarter of 2022, they moved from 3,100 visits in October to 1,600 in Nov, and 6,800 in Dec with an average visit duration of 1 minute and 3 seconds. How many visits to the website translate to business for the 'customers'?

The other side of the sheet looks even more deceptive with no mention of a directory and focuses on payment, and is formatted like an invoice. Especially invoice-like is the perforated remit portion. Interestingly enough, their mailing address is ** *** **** *************** ** *****.

I'm not sure what they're doing is illegal but it feels like the business equivalent of applying beauty filters on a 20-year-old photograph of yourself on a dating website to get a first date. It's the person...kinda. Would you marry someone like that? If not, why would you do business with them?

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

The response is legalese.  It's still a predatory mailing.  The website is technically a directory.  The mailing does contain language that it is a directory listing.  However, the entire intent is to deceive the receiver into mistaking the mailing as an invoice for a service of dubious value.  To compare that listing to a leading directory service, ********* we can see that listings are FREE on a website has traffic of over 142 million visits in December of 2022 *******************************************************.  Comparatively, Domain Networks charges almost $300 for a directory listing with 6,000 visitors a month.  Which has better value?  Domain Networks is such a shell of a functional website that the business category search feature doesn't even work.  12% of US consumers use ****.

So, does the website and mailing check the legal boxes?  Probably.

Is it designed to provide minimal value?  Yes.

Is it listed with the Secretary of State as a business in NM?  No.

Is the mailing designed to exploit the inattentive?  Yes.

Does a deceptive mailing to provide a listing on a website that provides minimal value pass the ethical sniff test of "Better Business"?  NO.

Domain Networks - is there enough evidence in your mailing and website to convict you of providing a fair market value to your customers with their best interests at heart?

********** is a non-profit located in Catonsville, MD. We received "bills" from Domain Network for our two websites for an annual website domain listing for $289.00 for each website. I thought this was a legitimate bill for our two websites and I paid them in August. I just received another bill from Domain Listings for a website listing service for one of our sites for $288.00. I started looking into teh validity of these invoices now that I have received a second notice for the same website, and I have realized that this is a scam. We are a very small non-profit that provides counseling services, and we cannot afford to pay $578.00. I have tried calling the company and nobody answers the phone.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

I COMPLETELY disagree, the information at the very top of the "invoice" lists that our last renewal was 7/12/2021. This is very misleading and gives the impression that this is something ********** is already paying for.  Why would you refer to it as an "invoice" for a renewal if it's not something we have already purchased?

How can you prove anything has been done for this $589.00? Is there a way to show what this service entails and that your company has actually provided this service? Is there a way to measure that you have indeed enhanced our website exposure and exposed ********** to new customers through your directory and that your "services" are working?

Clearly, your "invoice" is very misleading because ********** is not the first company to file a complaint against your company.  ********** is a counseling facility that serves the Baltimore area, and the majority of our business is based on referrals and word of mouth from our local community.

We would appreciate it if Domain Networks would reconsider reimbursing ********** for the $578.00. The service was clearly purchased in error, and we hope that you will refund the $578.00 in good faith.
