      I rented a vehicle from an Avis branch in Texas and drove it to Detroit. During the trip, I received a message that the windshield washer fluid was low. Come to find out, this is because there's a massive leak in the line. I called Avis Customer Service who instructed me to simply take it to an Avis location and provide my reservation number (seems simple and reasonable enough). When I got to this location, the agent refused to do so, demanding that I first submit a roadside assistance ticket. I should not have to sit on hold for roadside assistance, likely pay an additional fee for this service, and then on top of that submit a claim when I drove the vehicle to the facility myself and it's already sitting right outside of their facility, especially when they're just going to end up just doing a vehicle swap in the system when all said and done. When I called the corporate customer service line, after waiting in their queue on hold for over 1.5 hours, they had no explanation for why the original agent gave me what was apparently false information and they refused to stick up for me as a customer against this branch's unreasonable demand.
      I expect to receive and use a vehicle with zero defects for the good money I poured into my rental, and Avis should rectify the situation without hassle when I bring an issue to their attention instead of making me (a paying and until now loyal customer) jump through a bunch of unneccessary administrative hoop when it's a problem they're responsible for.
      I will never be returning to this location, and I will never rent from Avis again after this horrible experience. I will also tell everyone I know about my experience to be sure they never rent from Avis and specifically this branch at DTW.

      I prepaid for my rental months prior to my trip to Las Vegas. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle, very early in the day with no one in line ahead of me or behind me at the time, I was told that my discount that I used to reserve the vehicle was for the incorrect company; Xerox Company instead of FCA-Chrysler for which I have been employed for over 20 years. Instead of the client service agent assisting me in correcting the issue, I was charged more than twice the original price I was quoted with the agent projecting a "take it or leave it" attitude. I was told to call the 1-800 number for AVIS if I wanted additional assistance with the problem, without being provided with the telephone number. I was forced to leave the line, google the number and contact the AVIS Rental Car Customer Service Line who also quoted me the same more than double the price of my original reservation price that I proactively reserved months ahead of time. I was told that technically this is considered a new rental and my old rate does not apply because the demand is now higher. Having limited choices at this point, I got back in line. At this point, instead of being one of the first customers, I was now approximately the 30th customer with limited choices on which vehicle to choose from. We were stuck with a small, uncomfortable Honda Accord for the duration of our trip. I travel to Las Vegas often and always secure a rental vehicle. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had renting a car.

      Follow up to case: 54387538:
      AVIS is only partially correct. After 4 calls, I was informed a decision had not yet been made on the claim and it would be several weeks before charges would or wouldn’t be levied.
      The only time EZ Refill has been presented to me as an option is if I had to rent a car from the desk. AVIS Preferred is designed to bypass the desk. Maybe in the fine print but no where was I clearly made aware by AVIS or my booking agent that I would be charged or I had a choice.
      U4308758 26 under “Rental Options” – Equipment, Services, Protections & Coverages, there is no EZ Fuel Service noted.
      AVIS charged me fuel on:
      U4308758 26 – invoice does not indicate fuel level. I filled up, received a $15.99 Fuel Service Charge. I had it removed on 3/15 while inquiring about the damage claim
      U4001486 85 – invoice says “Fuel at Pick Up 15.8”, “Fuel at Return 15.8”. I received a $15.99 Fuel Service Charge.
      U3597207 34 – invoice says “Fuel at Pick Up 14.5”, “Fuel at Return 14.5”. I received a $15.99 Fuel Service Charge. I was also charged $125 for a smoke cleaning fee which I disputed and won.
      U2597008 43 - invoice does not indicate fuel level. I filled up and received a $15.99 Fuel Service Charge.
      U3596804 40 - invoice does not indicate fuel level. I filled up and received a $15.99 Fuel Service Charge. Also, I scheduled roadside assistance because the window would close. Roadside assistance never showed up and never contacted me. I was told by an AVIS agent (during the smoking dispute) that I may expect a roadside assistance charge in the future for this rental.
      U3595928 22 - invoice says “Fuel at Pick Up 15.8”, “Fuel at Return 15.8”. I received a $15.99 Fuel Service Charge.
      It sounds like to me that AVIS is defrauding the consumer by defaulting to charge them fuel nor does not have proper procedures in place to ensure the consumer is protected in the event a previous renter damaged a vehicle.
      I have more to say, but character limitation.

      Horrible customer service with Roadside Assistance reps and on site rep at Avis Preferred desk.
      I picked up my vehicle at PHX airport on 3/14/23. In less than 24 hours, the check engine light came on 2x with the engine shutting down in traffic while stopped at traffic lights. I had to turn the vehicle off and restart the engine both times while praying it would start back up.
      I spent my first full day of vacation 3/15/23 waiting for a tow truck, going all the way back to the airport to get another vehicle and 1.5 hours on the phone with 2 roadside assistance reps trying to find out when and how I would get a new vehicle. The first rep wanted me to drive a car with intermittent engine failure 30 minutes back to the airport to exchange it. Could he have provided a more dangerous solution? He also provided no information on a vehicle exchange and just ended our call without a resolution.
      Finally get back to Avis site and the rep (Deng) was very rude and implied the engine failure was my fault. Like I wanted a full vacation day (11:50am - 4:00pm) ruined with this nonsense. Seriously?!
      I did ask for a discount on my rental or a vehicle upgrade for the hassle and aggravation and Deng refused.
      I wont use Avis again. I’ll find a car rental company that has reliable vehicles and understands how to provide quality customer service.

      I recently rented a car during a trip to Las Vegas at Avis rental **** ******** Street. The estimated expense for the rental was $444.00. I returned the vehicle after 6 days and requested a printed receipt but was told I would receive a E-receipt. When I received the E-receipt it was $1600.00 with obvious calculation error.
      When I contacted the local facility I was not able to speak with anyone and had to call the corporate office to get a live person. I think it is insane that due to a calculation error or intentional scam an enormous overcharge of $1254.00 was placed on my credit card. The charges are pending currently but if they wait to respond and correct the error I would have to wait to receive the refund of over payment. Due to the sizable amount of the error it should be considered fraudulent activity and this location should be placed under investigation. If this issue is not resolved prior to the final charge being processed I will be filing a formal complaint with BBB and looking to take further legal actions.

      Avis Preferred. Almost weekly rental. Mostly BWI. Corporate contract. Three damage claims in a month for issues caused by prior customers or non-existent (smoking charge, I don’t smoke). Also, 25% of my rentals include the $15.99 fuel surcharge when I fill up less than 3 miles from airport. Avis expects me to walk back to the counter to fight the fuel charge I receive electronically while I’m on the shuttle to the airport.
      Avis is understaffed, under trained, and expect the customer to spend time fighting each claim.
      Called the claims number today, wait time noted as two min, waited 15, and then was disconnected.
      I am petitioning corp to review our corp contract with anyone else.
      Look me up, latest claim (damage and fuel) ******* *** on 3/15/23.

      Our records also show that as the rental vehicle was driven less than 75 miles you have been charged for our EZ Fuel service. This is done automatically for customers who drive less than 75 miles during the rental, to opt out of this service please provide a copy of your fuel receipt at the time of return and we will ensure the EZ fuel is removed from your rental.

      March 3. 2023 —In anticipation for a flight delay out of Chicago en route to Salt Lake City due to a winter storm, I prepaid $386 for a SUV to await my arrival I’m SLC. I received a message from Avis Preferred that my white Toyota 4-Runner was waiting in the Avis garage in space A08. My flight was indeed delayed leaving Chicago (1.5hrs) and was also rerouted to Denver due to an on board medical emergency. We finally left Denver after midnight on March 5th and arrived in SLC at 2:00 am. I walked from the terminal to the Avis garage (15 minutes) and arrived to find an empty space in Avis spot A08. The only person around was a Securitas security guard who said a car matching the Avis description in my email was checked through the exit gate earlier in the night. Avis gave my prepaid car away. I was now stranded in the rental area of SLC International airport at 230 am. The Avis kiosks were closed of course and I ended up spending $200 on a Lyft to drive me the 30 miles to my hotel in Ogden Utah in the middle of a blizzard. I called Avis after for a refund which I did not receive. All business travel from my company will no longer use Avis. Disgusted, angry, and left in the cold.

      Worst experience. I booked a Yukon size vehicle 6 months ago. Arriving at the airport Avis app could mot assign vehicle and directed me to Avis Preferred counter. The attendant was extremely rude, did not care a bit and forced a minivan on us promising to call once the correct vehicle arrives. The call never came. I tried to call but they divert all calls to central customer service where they gave me the worst scripted story and runaround. To be fair I was just completely duped by Avis. What a horrible company with the worst customer experience. Will have to settle for this dirty dilapidated Sienna for the week

      This is the second time I have had an issue with Avis’ bill at check out and the invoice that is billed. Customers should closely look at the two bills and invoice. A very bad practice!!

      I rented a van in December,2022, for 3 days. After returning it, I received a letter saying that I returned the van dirty and was going to be charged $125 for washing and vacuuming fee. I called and complained so Avis said that they would refund half, $62.50. It is March 11th and I have not received my refund. I have called multiple times, received refund confirmation numbers, yet still no refund.
      AVIS IS NOT A TRUSTWORTHY COMPANY.
