1 starOvercharged me an absurd amount for filing my taxes. I signed up to file with a pro and online advertises for the starting price of $85 plus additional fees for each state. After putting all of my information into their portal, they asked me to schedule an appointment in person, No where in the portal shows you how much the service was going to be, they even called the day before the appointment and told me they have everything they need. After filing in person, they asked me to pay almost $300, saying it was complicated. Mind you, I went to a couple of different places and with all of my documents, I was quote $80-$100. The only reason why I went with H&R Block was because I had a referral for $25 off. Their website says no surprises and all about transparency, yet these extra fees were completely hidden and not communicated to be prior to the appointment.I called their customer service and was provided a case number but no actions were taken further. I want an explanation and a refund for the hidden fees.Review fromPaula T

1 starI'm only providing a 1-Star review because I have no other option. First let me start out by saying that I have used H&R Block for my tax returns for as long as I can remember. However, I now will never use them again! Sadly only because I received such horrible treatment when I really needed professional advice and/or help. Without going into my personal details, I will say that I had not been able to file my taxes for the last 4 years due to the fact that apparently the *** could now not identify me and during the pandemic and even now, you can not get anyone on the phone to ask a simple question. I went into H&R with the paperwork I had available and the first arrogant comment out of her mouth after asking me how my day was going, was uncalled for. "Oh, because you waited until the last day"? Oh, haha that wasn't funny and it wasn't the last day. It was April 7th. I attempted to explain my dilemma and she looks at me and the papers and says "what is all this? What do you want me to do?" Everyone in the office could hear how she was talking to me, how humilating. After about 2 minutes of feeling like an ***, I had tears in my eyes so I just wanted to just leave and find a real accountant that could guide me. She said she had to reschedule me, which she did, but needless to say, I was not going back to her when I left there in tears and everyone had to hear it. My daughter was in there with another rep getting her taxes prepared as well. When she came out to the car, she asked me what all that was about and proceeded to tell her. Even though she heard every word. No one deserves to be treated like that! I sent her an email letting her know how I felt about my treatment and let me tell you, I never heard a word back from her. With that said, I did not show up for my appointment either. Ms. ****************** EA, deserves NO customers! An EA that will not assist with an *** issue needs her certification/license revoked.Review fromKatie S

1 starNegative Experience with Confidential Information Handling I am writing to share my recent negative experience with H&R Block. As a customer seeking professional tax preparation services, I expected a high level of care and attention to detail, particularly when it comes to handling sensitive personal information. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of these expectations.Upon choosing H&R Block for their reputation and convenience, I encountered a series of unprofessional incidents that raised concerns about the security of my personal identifiable information (PII). The timeline of events is as follows:-I arrived at the H&R Block office for my scheduled appointment, only to find the door locked and the staff tardy by half an hour.-Upon entering the office, I was informed that the Tax Representative was not yet present, raising concerns about the company's organization and reliability.-I eventually decided to leave the office and file my taxes online, but not before securely emailing my documents to H&R Block for previously mentioned appointment.-Several weeks later, I received two phone calls from rude H&R Block representatives, both of whom claimed that I needed to collect physical copies of my documents from their office.-In both instances, the representatives read my PII out loud over the phone, demonstrating a careless and unprofessional approach to handling sensitive information. (passing between employees, obtaining physical records not stored securely)The lack of professionalism and carelessness in handling *************** information has left me deeply concerned about the security of my PII. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend H&R Block to anyone seeking tax preparation services, and I will actively discourage my friends and family from using their services in the future.I hope this review serves as a warning to potential customers and prompts the company to take immediate action in addressing these critical issues.Review fromOlivia C

1 starI had the extreme displeasure of working with ***************** at this location. She said she was going to file my contractors' ****s and when she filled out the forms, she made a bunch of mistakes. When I called to have her correct them, I was told I would have to make an appointment. I did this three times and she never called at at point. When I called the office and finally got on the phone with me, she passed me around to her other colleagues, and finally someone let me know she was "too busy" to keep working with me and that she didn't have time to fix it. I come to find out she never even sent them to the **** DO NOT work with this H&R Block.Review fromMatthew W

1 starExperience with H&R Block for tax year 2022 has been atrocious.First I attempted to file an online tax return to be performed by a professional in late March. I uploaded documents and the online program said a tax professional would be reviewing the documents. After over a week, I inquire about what's going on. I'm told that "I used an old program that doesn't exist anymore" and get redirected to an existing service - ridiculous excuse/situation but at least someone is looking at things.I reuploaded all my files, takes days of prodding to get anything done, and she says my completed tax return is uploaded. But on the website it just redirects to an empty/broken file. I ask her to send it again to the same result. I get told to call customer support. I speak to multiple individuals over the course of my than hour none of whom are capable of helping **** decide to make an appointment with a physical/real-life H&R block office to finally get my taxes done in a way I can see/review/sign/pay. They decide to unilaterally cancel the appointment not understanding why I would make an appointment when my taxes were already "done". Did they send an e-mail/text/voice mail or change my status on the website? Did they keep the appointment anyway so we could discuss things? NO. They called once with what look like a spam number and considered the matter settled. When my family can to do our taxes they had again no one to help and could only schedule an appointment for days later, very close to the end of tax season.I've worked with H&R block on my taxes for years and never had nonsense like this happen. Most customers use H&R block because it's more convenient than trying to struggle through on their own. Never again! Appallingly incompetent service.Review fromJennifer P

1 starNO STARS, 100% Guarantee is a SHAM!!!! I initially purchased Turbo Tax Premium and they didnt have the forms to file my NEW BUSINESS, so I purchased H&R Premium and Business Program specifically for the **** form and K-1 filing. After buying at Office Depot, went home to try and get started, couldn't find the website to put my Activation Code in. Called Customer Support, stayed on hold for awhile and then finally get a LIVE person and they couldn't help. Realized I had to be on ****** to get to the website. Created my account and started my return, this was not what I needed, and not user friendly. At this point I give up. I called the ***** to file the claim to return...on hold forever, no call back either when created a spot in cue.Pulled up 100% Grantee and did EXACTLY WHAT WAS REQUIRED!!!!! 1 starI only gave a star because it made me. Why I will never use H&R Block a day in my ever loving life.and beyond. SoLets be honest with each other. This company hires anyone. Anyone who is around. Regardless of their experience. There are many things in life I can handle. And when it comes to removing money from my paycheck, if I was to move as H&R does, Id be in Jail. Ive encountered people that have tried to embellish my job( i directed to the **** , Ive encountered Front desk folk signing me up for a service that has a different name in other stores. (Spruce/Emerald). Their bank (HR) gave me didnt have an address on the check, and ***** wouldnt verify, I spent over a week on the phone doing the job I paid H&R to do, only to be met with walls. No one can help you, no one knows who the bank is. BOTH chase and H&R outsource to India, which has to be the most hard to bear, as the level of immediacy is quelled or non existent. They take your money, its legit when they remove the funds to pay themselves, but the hard earned money thats I worked for, has to be verified. Rip off/ Scam. Never use their service if you can help it.Review fromRick W

1 starMy daughter, who earns a meager salary as a waitress and struggling makeup artist, responded to the "free" H&R Block tax prep ad, particularly the ******* H&R Block on *************. She prepared her taxes online as their program required and it was accepted and noted an expected refund from both State and Federal. When she tried, on several occasions, to submit the forms to the IRS/State, they were declined. She called the H&R Block (Magnolia) and they said she would have to come in so they could assist. She made an appointment and went in. Miraculously, the forms were them acceptable but they wanted over $300 for the service. they conveniently encouraged her to pay it from her expected refund. She declined, as she simply needed the refund money for bills. When she got home, she went to the Turbo Tax website, completed their forms with the exact information, and it was accepted online and filed with the **** You use your discretion on whether this was a legitimate practice by H&R ******* or not, but I know my daughter will never use them again nor will I. We wanted this known to people as this seems to be an illegitimate practice, kind of like a bait and switch. Shame if they are doing this to people with limited resources.Review fromRodniesha B
