1 starI requested a specific tax advisor online, but was sent to another one. She didn't know that my daughter was not my dependent after giving all the information to figure that out. The calculations were all wrong and $1000 more than I really owed. I had to resubmit my taxes with turbotax and a revision. My daughter's taxes were adversely affected and now she has to do a revision. I will never use HR Block again. I told the advisior my daughter was not a dependent and what should I do since the taxes were already done, but received no answer. My federal return was rejected by the IRS because the forms were incorrectly submitted. I told the preparer I had that form last year, but she submitted it incorrectly.Review fromLinda H

1 starI decided to have HR Block in Town Center in Boca Raton to file my taxes this year. They made so many mistakes. First they told me that I owed over $7,000 to the IRS and I owed them $634 for the tax preparation. The IRS deducted the $7000 from my checking account the next day. I took a good look at it and found they made a big mistake with my capital gains and other mistakes. I really owed nothing. They said they would send an amended return. Now I am out the $7000 dollars for about 20 weeks. I complained that they do not know what they are doing so they said they would get my tax preparation fee back to me. When I went back to sign the amended return, they found more mistakes, and said I was denied for them to give me back my preparation fee. I received a refund of about $100 from the IRS in the mail before the amended return was processed because they miscalculated my penalty on the original return. Never will use HR Block again. The employees are not trained properly. Now I am out $7000 for 20 weeks.Review fromLynn C

1 starOK, I had an H&R Block appointment. I filed with my correct and up-to-date information and a small amount of it had changed, but they had all of the information that I applied on hand. The lady who has built my information didn’t use the information I had given them on hand use previous years information, instead of what I had given them and failed to file my dependents failed to file one of my dependents and filed a dependent that I wasn’t filing for Aswell when I initially got a letter from the IRS at H&R Block and they said it was probably just a change in the income wasn’t a big deal come to find out the lady didn’t even use the information I had given her so I went back up there schedules another appointment amendment of your taxes is free and we will reimburse you the fee they Charged me initially well still haven’t got my refund the day that she told me that my amend amendment was accepted was the day I went up there made an appointment. I checked H&R blocks and it says rejected the same day that she had said it was accepted so now I’m being screwed on my taxes because one of the tax specialist I went in and made the appointment the extra money for the in person amendment was rejected. I’ve waited Just 14 weeks from when I initially filed less than four weeks after I filed, I let him know about the letter from the irs that I received and the lady said oh it’s probably no big deal probably just because of the changing your income I’ll look into it for you. Come to find out it’s they didn’t even use the information. I’d give them to file for this year. They used previous years provided information I’m screwed. My amendment was rejected. I didn’t get refunded for my filing. They fucked it up and their guarantees says they’ll pay up to $10,000, the specialist is at fault for any kind of failure tax return which is completely their fault. They didn’t use the information. I’d given them on hand and there’s no reason for it. pure laziness&incompetence from Clare miReview fromCa D

1 starThis is my experience so far with H&R and, wow, does it resonates with many of the other reviews here. I went to the local H&R located at 2891 N Decatur Rd, Decatur, GA 30033 on 4/11/24 (first time client). The tax preparer's (aka Tax Pro) lack of knowledge and inaccuracies to file my taxes, followed by the lack of response from their office and customer svc compelled me to file a formal complaint with the BBB. I had to correct the preparer several times as I saw her typos while she was entering my information in the system. After a follow-up visit to complete my return on 4/14, the preparer called me to say she could not e-file due to a rejection. The preparer then advised to mail (certified) the returns so I went for a 3rd time to pick up the sealed envelops the preparer had for me.
Because there was a question about sending an amendment (form 1040-X) for my spouse’s return which was done a month earlier, my spouse’s tax preparer asked to review the paperwork from H&R (something I am glad she did because it likely saved me future headaches with the IRS) and pointed out several clerical errors in the forms I intended to mail that same day (4/15) which included transposed SSNs, wrong home address, missing entry of the mortgage interest paid and dividend pmts). Due to the approaching deadline, we paid my spouse's preparer to re-do and e-file our taxes.
I called the local H&R office on 4/17 and I was told that the tax preparer was seasonal and her last day was 4/15 but that a Regional Manager call me within 48 hrs; didn't receive such call. I then called H&R Help&Support on 4/19 and I was told that the Office Mgr would call me shortly; didn't receive such call. Got a call from the mgr on 4/26 to tell me i must've given H&R the opportunity to fix the issue and that he was willing to reimburse 33% of the fees paid. I respectfully disagreed and the mgr stated he'll pass this to Headquarters to contact me. Waiting for them to contact me...Review fromAlexandra F

1 starI was charged twice for my online filing fees using an H&R block professional. The company has strung me along for months now, has closed my escalated cases multiple times, and has not resolved my issue. I am owed over $300 and have sent them clear screenshots showing the fee being taken from my bank account and also my tax return. Absolute nightmare experience. It's clear that they don't care about making things right for their customers. After years of using their service, I will never be using H&R block again.Review fromRichard E

1 starMy name is Nancy R.
I received a letter from the IRS that there was a mistake on my 2021 taxes. I was due $721.00. I have spoke to Pathwards since they are the holding company for HR block about this matter. I have the date of deposit, routing number and account number that the funds went into. I have tried talking to HR Block as well as Pathwards and I keep getting transfered to different departments. Please help me get this money that is owed me.Review fromDANIEL W

1 starI went to H and R Block to have my current years taxes completed and filed as well as two amended returns. The overall incompetency is hard to describe. Once my current taxes were complete, I paid for the service and filed electronically. I was told to go to my tax office and retrieve the hard copies of that return and pick up my amended returns. When I arrived, they took someone without an appointment (I had one), and I waited 40 minutes. When I reviewed my amended returns, they were in error and several people had to look at my return before they were able to correct. I was then told that they could file the amended returns for me. In fact, they said they needed to file them since it was 4/15 even though they were amendments for 2022 and 2021. They messaged me on the H and R Block app at 6:41 pm, 4/15 that I needed to pick up the amended returns and file them myself. Of course, I did not see this message since it was through the app. I contacted them after I saw it on Friday, and they told me I had to go to another office to pick up my paperwork. Then again on Saturday I received another message through the app for another location. I went to that location at 1 pm on Monday and it was closed. There were also others outside trying to get in. The others outside called the number on the door and were able to speak to someone. I overheard them say they were going to yet another office a mile away. I also called the number and could not reach anyone, just an automated system. I called the customer service line and asked to speak with a supervisor, and they told me I had to file a complaint first, which I did. I received a survey request in my email that I completed also asking for someone to contact me. Also, no response. I then called customer service again this morning asking to speak to a supervisor and was told that I needed to file a complaint first and they told me there was no record of a prior complaint.Review fromDmb B.

2 starsWent in for a appointment and the agent answered the phones each and everytime while I was getting my personal taxes done for my scheduled appt. And yet I haven't been able to get through the phone lines since attemtping to follow up as to why I did not receive my portion of refund when the wesbite reflects H&R block got their entire portion of their cost. The cost of my return was for exactly what the refund was and per **************** was to receive ballpark $103 or so once their cost was paid and this was not the case. I did not have a W2 only sch C for driving ride share and unemployment and interest for sale of a home. Cost was just shy of $900 filing single. Interesting that last year filing was also the exact amount of the return as well for an H&R block filing as well. How is this legal? Is this legal? H&R block also send coupons as well for filing but not sure if that gets applied or how it even helps. I just don't understand how ones conscious is ok with this practice of taking advantage of others. These cost are out of control for someone that made below $20k for the year it cost me $894 to utlilize H&R block. How it is that the cost of the return was for almost the exact amount of the refund that H&R block convientley received? Disheartening.Review fromLeeAnne F

1 starI called H&R Block in Rockaway, NJ to make an appointment with Eric M******. They did not have anything for him until April 15th so Patti, the receptionist, suggested I call the office in Roxbury. I was able to get in with Eric on April 9th. When he was finished doing my simple tax return, he said the fee was $304. I was totally take aback. Every other year, I paid $159. He told me that the secretary should have told me that because they were Block Advisors, that they charge more. I was furious. She did not tell me and when I called her to complain, she told me that Eric was Eric no matter which office I went to. I then called corporate and have had THREE different complaints filed, to no avail. The manager from Block Advisors called and said there was nothing she could do. Then, the manager from the Rockaway Office called and said that the receptionist did not know Block Advisors charged more and that she should have known that. She also told me the accountant should have also told me they charge more. She said there was nothing she could do on her end because they don't have access to my account since it was done at Block Advisors. She agreed I should have only been charged the $159 due to the neither the receptionist or accountant being transparent with the fee. She told me to call the Block Advisors manager back or corporate. I called again today and got yet another case number assigned and was not able to speak to a supervisor. It is only right that Block Advisors or H&R Block refund me the $145 I was overcharged because of their negligence. In addition, the receptionist in Rockaway and the manager, Debbie, in the Roxbury Office were both unprofessional and rude. I will never use this company again and would like my credit as soon as possible.
