When I signed up with Varsity Tutors, I was explicitly promised that a tutor would be matched to my daughter based on specific criteria I provided. I agreed to try the service for one month onlyfour sessions totaland made it clear, multiple times, that I did not want a renewing subscription.The tutor they assigned was a poor fit, and after just two sessions, my daughter chose not to continue. I accepted the loss of the remaining sessions and walked away, under the assumption that I had fulfilled my one-month agreement. Not once did anyone follow up for feedback or offer supportdespite assurances that they would.Three months later, I discovered that Varsity Tutors had enrolled me in an an ongoing subscription against my request and had continued charging my card for services we were not using and never agreed to. When I contacted them to cancel and request a refund, I was met with a flat refusal.This is not just bad customer serviceits predatory business practice, bordering on fraud. I expect a full refund for the unauthorized charges and immediate confirmation that my account is canceled. At the very least, Varsity Tutors should uphold the standards and integrity they claim to represent.Business Response

This company is a bait and switch company. I signed up for 4 hours of tutoring for the month of July only. My tutor was a no show for 3 of those sessions. I was then charged ****** for August because the company then claimed I had 7 hours and 25 minutes of tutoring. I took advantage of instant tutoring, but not 6 hours and 25 minutes worth. I did not authorize any payment for August. When I called to request the membership be cancelled, I received an email stating the membership is cancelled as of 1 Sept, instead of 1 August like I requested. I called back to request an email stating I cancelled the membership as of 1 August and my request was denied. The agent assured me the **** is cancelled though. I am extremely disappointed with the quality of tutoring and the dishonest sales process at Varsity Tutors. I have used them before for my oldest son and the process went well. I signed up for a set amount of hours and only paid for those hours. I was told this time that I would be paying for 16 hours of tutoring ONLY. I later realized that I was charged $639 a month for three additional months that I did not agree to and they stated I had purchased a membership. I explained that I never agreed to a monthly membership, that I was sold 16 hours of tutoring only. They refused to refund the $1917 and said I should have read the small print on the contract. I said maybe they should have sales people that tell the truth and are honest. Additionally, the tutor assigned to my son cancelled sessions on a regular basis and the content was very inconsistent. I feel that this was a very dishonest process and a scam and I will never use them or recommend that they be used again by anyone.Business Response

April 5th, 2025 I sought out tutoring for one of my children and reached out to Varsity Tutors. I spoke with a sales representive specifically about one time tutoring for an upcoming AP exam in one month. They recommended a package of 4 hours of tutoring. I specifically asked if this would just be for a one time package and told yes this was just for a pre AP exam package. After the 4 sessions were used I have receive zero corespondance from the company. No services were shown to still be active in the account and no services were used past the inital month. I was orginally charged over the phone and was charged for $349 what was sold to me as one time package. I never was sent a contract to sign or told that there were be recurring charges. Fast forward three months I noticed that there were new charges on my CC. I have contacted the company three times without any response. There isn't even anywhere in the account where cunsumers can unenroll themselves in the system. I am asking for a refund of three monthly charges totaling totalling $1047 and assurance there will no other charges made to my CC.Business Response

May 2025 The only way to contact for service is to call the main company and they explain how to set you up with tutoring. My college aged son asked for ONE month of service only. They proceeded to sign him up for monthly billed service. There is no way to cancel on the website. They didn't even tell him it was monthly billing or that he would have to cancel. He just noticed it on his credit card statement. This is a clear case of predatory pricing practices. This should be addressed legally against this company. They billed him $349 for the past 3 additional months that he didn't use the service, didn't know he would be charged, wasn't told to cancel or how.Business Response

Transaction date July 27, 2025 Request a refund of $479 billed at midnight on 7/26/25 Made a request for a 1 month contract for my granddaughter who was visiting for that period. I explained we did not need the service after that time because I would not have control of the childs participation when she returned to her mothers care. I explained a previous attempt for tutoring resulted in wasted funds as the childs mother did not cooperate. Today 7/27/25 I received notice on my credit card that Varsity Tutor billed me for a new billing cycle. I called Varisity Tutors and was told I should have read the paperwork and cancelled a week prior to 7/27/2025. Those specificity were never made known to me. They focused they give credit for unused time instead of the true cancellation policy I would like a refund of my $479.00Business Response

I signed my son up for varsity tutors and authorized them to charge me $349 for his month of learning. They then added more hours and money to his sessions and did not disclose this to me. They are now charging me $261.75 and refuse to refund it since they went in and fraudulently added time to his tutoring without disclosing the additional cost and did not ask if this was ok ahead of time.Business Response

I contacted Varsity Tutors on 6/1/25 about tutoring services for my high school student who doesnt live with me full time. I spoke to a sales representative who pitched this whole program and highlighted all the extensive student support etc. etc. I was NEVER told during that sales / set up call that the hours purchased expire at the end of each month and do not carry over. My daughter was on summer vacation when I purchased this tutoring 7/1/25 rolls around I look at my credit card theres a charge for $635 from Varsity Tutors and Im thinking that cant be right theres no way she finished those 8 hours already she just got back from out of the country . I find out she has done 0 hours she hasnt even logged into the account yet teenagers! So I call varsity tutors and explain the situation I tell them look I will share responsibility here and take the hit for the initial charge of $435 June 1 and Ill loose those 8 hours but I would like a refund of the second $435 as 0 hours have been used and Ill get singed back up once my teen is ready and locked in . They responded basically NO said I cannot get a refund and I lost the hours and they may consider an extension on the 8 hours for 7/1/25 but its not guaranteed and I have to wait 48 hours for a response. But if they did not grant me an extension on the hours then Im just SOL . I never received that follow up they promised I then had to call back again and got the same response and am now waiting again to see but no refund ! I also asked for a supervisor or manager or another point of contact to escalate this .. and was told NO . I asked for the name and employee # and he would not give me any info other than his first name ****** . No last name, no company ID number, no manager or supervisor. Seems like robbery for a company to charge over $1300 and be unwilling to understand circumstances when they can see the account had literally never been used !!Business Response
