      I called Varsity Tutors in November 2024 and signed up for a total of eight 1-hour sessions in ********* PowerPoint, the total payment was $499. I completed the entire transaction on the phone with their agent. At no time during the conversation was I told there would be an ongoing monthly charge of $499 until I unsubscribed because of course I wouldve opted out of that. Looking back at the confirmation they sent, it does not state anything about unsubscribing. I thought I was being charged one time for $499 for 8 sessions. This is not a college. Why would anyone subscribe indefinitely and not utilize the course. I cant imagine how many people have fallen victim to this. My eight sessions ended in January 2025, I never logged in again and they continued charging my credit card March through August when I caught it. I called and emailed two days ago and got a response today, August 28th, 2025 that they will not refund me the $2,900 deviously charged. Never once have I been notified of any upcoming charges. My account has basically been dormant. This is passive corporate scamming. This is a company I did lessons with before in 2017 so I trusted them vs other companies online. The only resolution I need is my $2,900 refunded. I do not want an apology or a typical corporate response. I need the funds refunded immediately as a check payment t, not back to that Discover card. Please help!

      We have been getting monthly charges since December 2024 for a total of $2449.50. We have called and called and called and emailed, but we continue to get charged.

      Cancelation of my auto renewal subscription didn't go through, and now they refuse to give me a refund. When initially signing up my account, I clicked the option to cancel the auto renewal of my subscription, but they said they don't see it on my account and charged me anyway. When I did successfully cancel, I had to click several different buttons making it confusing and at the end I was still unsure if I had canceled the auto renewal. I had to call to find out if my second attempt at canceling had registered. When I asked for a refund and explained that I had tried to cancel the auto renewal when I initially set up my account, they refused to give me a refund. The auto renewal cancel option is confusing and intentionally misleading.

      Varsity tutor is online tutoring provider that my daughter used to learn Spanish. Her tutor kept changing schedules and we missed some sessions and wasnt be able to make up. She also missed half of August already and they charged again on August 24th for next 30 days and wouldnt refund for next month. This business should clearly explain about their terms and make sure tutors make up missed sessions.

      I think it is clear from the many complaints before mine, that this company has a strong track record of charging your credit card without your knowledge or agreement ... and making it impossible to be refunded. In my case I signed up my daughter for 4 sessions for $349. The day before the first session, the tutor emailed us to say that he could not provide the type of tutoring she wanted and recommended that she find it at her University, to which he provided a link. He canceled his ****** with her and advised her to find a different tutor, which we did. I contacted Varsity Tutors to get a refund. They claimed that because I had to cancel the services a week in advance, and had not, I was still liable for the charge - EVEN THOUGH THEIR TUTOR HAD CANCELED THE SESSION, TOLD US HE COULD NOT TEACH WHAT SHE NEEDED AND RECOMMENDED A DIFFERENT SERVICE WHICH WE USED! Absolutely disgraceful, if not fraudulent. ******.

      Purchased tutoring through Varsity Tutors for our grandson. The tutor hed been working with didnt show up for a session two weeks ago. After waiting 30 minutes he hung up. It happened again this week. I called Varsity Tutors again. WE RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION FROM VARSITY TUTORS!! NONE!! Two consecutive weeks! I asked for a refund for the three sessions we had already paid for. They wanted my grandson to reschedule with a different tutor. I told them absolutely not. I would like to be reimbursed for the three sessions. Their company policy says no refund. The representatives have been nice but no common sense.

      I signed up for Varsity Tutors for my son. I was very clear I only wanted the service for one month, they said I had until August 19th to cancel (within 30 days). I called and cancelled on August 19th and they processed my cancellation, but still charged me the next day. Now they are claiming I did not cancel within the 30 days. I have the email with cancellation confirmation from August 19th.

      Varity tutors is unethical. They say you can cancel at any time! And when you cancel with a tutor and say Im done, like done when the school year ends, they will still charge you monthly until you call a secret phone number. Nowhere do they tell you that you have to Cancel by calling ************!!!

      I purchased only four lessons from Varsity Tutors as a one-time purchase. I was very clear that I did not want a recurring membership. Despite this, Varsity Tutors placed me on an automatic recurring plan without my knowledge or consent. I was charged on May 21, June 21, July 21, and August 21.When I contacted Varsity Tutors, they told me the tutoring hours had expired and refused both to credit my account and to provide the tutoring hours I had already paid for. This is unfair and misleading billing, as I never agreed to an ongoing membership and did not receive the services for which I was charged.

      I am filing a complaint against Varaity Tutors regarding unauthorized charges made to my account.
      Without my consent or knowledge, Varaity Tutors enrolled me in a subscription plan and charged me $1,400. After I disputed this, they only refunded $349, leaving a large outstanding balance that I never agreed to pay.
      I did not authorize this subscription and was not informed of such charges in advance. I am requesting the BBBs assistance in securing a full refund of the remaining balance ($1,051) and in holding Varaity Tutors accountable for these deceptive billing practices.
      Please let me know if you require documentation, receipts, or screenshots of communications to support my claim.

      Varsity is in receipt of the Complaint filed by ****** ******. Varsitys Customer Experience Manager has attempted to contact ****** ****** at the email address associated with her account (which is different from the email address under which the complaint was filed), in accordance with Varsitys standard procedures. 
      That email (dated August 27, 2025) noted that it appears Ms. ****** has been provided a refund through the credit dispute process and the funds may have been issued to her as a provisional credit by the banking institution. Because the credit dispute process is handled by the banking institution, Varsity does not have any further visibility into the status of the refunds, and Ms. ****** should contact the bank for further information. 
      We believe this resolves the issues raised in the complaint, although Ms. ****** is welcome to contact Varsitys experience manager by responding to the email sent on August 27, 2025, to further address any outstanding concerns.       We reached out to Varsity Tutors over phone to get help for my daughter's school coaching. They signed us up over phone. We requested for one month trial and they said they will charge us only for one month. Without noticed, they put us on monthly subscription and started charging us every month. We noticed this charge in our credit statement recently. We called them to resolve but they are unwilling to refund our money back or give credit hours for unused hours. This business is not transparent about their monthly subscription and they trick you to signup.

      I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because:

      Varsity has not contacted me either through phone or mail. I am still waiting for my response from them. I want Varsity to be investigated for wrongful practice of deceiving clients and signing them up for auto-renewal and charging them for unused hours. They are collecting money for service not rendered. I need Varsity to give proof that they contact me.

      Varsitys Customer Experience Manager has made multiple attempts to contact ****** ********* regarding her complaint and rejection: via email on August 22, 2025, to the email address associated with her account (in accordance with Varsitys standard procedures), and on September 4, 2025, to the email address under which the complaint was filed, as well as via phone on September 4, 2025 at the number associated with her account, during which a voicemail was also left. To date, these attempts have gone unanswered. Varsity is providing the requested validation of its attempts at communication to the BBB via email, due to privacy/security concerns with attaching it to this response (which Varsity understands is publicly accessible).
      Varsitys prior attempts at communication explained that it appears Ms. ********* has been provided a refund of three (3) charges through the credit dispute process. Because the credit dispute process is handled by the banking institution, Varsity does not have any further visibility into the status of those three refunds, and ****** ********* should contact the bank for further information. To the extent there are additional chargeback requests pending, Varsity requires additional information from ****** ********* in order to follow up on those.
      Ms. ********* may contact Varsitys Customer Experience Manager using the contact information provided in our most recent correspondence to further address any outstanding concerns.
