1 starThey are a scam and shake down for money. Rented a car at ********************, the garage where we picked up the car was dark and not well lit, nobody inspected the car with us. We walked around it and didnt see any obvious damage to the car and took possession. Drove about 100 miles the few days we had it. Dropped it off at **************************, attended marked a 2 inch scratch on bumper and claimed we caused the damage and want $800 to repair. We did not cause that scratch but have no way of providing that it wasnt there already. We rent cars all the time all over the ** and even Europe and never had to deal with something like this over a small scratch. They claim its their business model to provide cars in best condition- their business model is to lure you in with cheap prices for nice cars and then shake you down for lots of money with fraudulent claims!!Review fromBecky K

1 starI had an absolutely terrible experience with this company at the ***************. I prepaid for the rental through ******* and when I arrived at the location they advised they needed an additional $200 deposit/hold. I advised I could use the same card I booked the rental with and was told they do not accept debit **** cards. As I did not have another credit card I asked if a family member could come provide their credit card for the deposit and I was told no as my name was on the booking. I then asked if I could add the family member to the rental for an additional cost so they could pay the deposit. Once again I was told no. I was told without a card in my own name there was nothing they were willing to do except keep my money for the original booking and make a new booking in my family members name with me as a second ******** attempting to scam me into having to pay for the rental twice. The staff were extremely condescending and rude, including the manager. I would never recommend this company to anyone and highly suggest you take your business elsewhere.Review fromKristin P

1 starI have rented with them twice now, 1 time in the ** and one time in ****** *******. The first time they tried to charge me for an extra $400 for a car not returned. It took months for them to realize their mistake. The second time in *******, they tried to take an additional $125 dollars off my credit card 1 month after I returned the car, with no explanation. I denied the charge, 2 weeks later I got a letter that they charged me a charge for a toll charge, I sent emails and tried to call for 3 months and SIXT did not respond when I was just trying to find a way to pay and get further explanation. Then I got an email from a credit collection agency in ******* 2 months later with over an additional $100 added on for penalty for failure to pay. So by the time I paid it I had to pay an additional $150. All this because **** did not respond to any emails or calls from me. I would recommend not use SIXT in renting a car, especially in other countries. They have nice cars but their customer service is terrible and they try to add additional charges on without notifying the customer.Review fromHenry G

1 starThis is a corrupt company. I went to pick up a car at ************************ in *********. I was told by the clerk at the registration desk that there was a large scratch on the right fender. I assumed that this information would have been listed on the rental agreement. When I got to the car it turned out that the clerk neglected to give me the keys to the car and the person by the cars had to retrieve the keys. This company does not have their employees inspect the car to confirm it's condition with you before you take the car. I subsequently received a bill for $947.50 for repair of the damage to the car. I immediately contacted **** and explained what had occurred and requested that they confirm my information with their employees. I was told that there was no way that they could do this. I asked how they paid their employees if they did not know who was working what shift and at what location. I was told that I needed the name of the clerk who was working when I picked up the car or to call their manager at ************************ to find out this information for which they offered no assistance. I observed that the clerk's behavior was odd and as a physician it appeared that he may have been high. This company did not admit the possibility that their employee did not properly perform his job even though he forgot to provide me with the keys to the vehicle. It was 11PM and no other customers that needed assistance. I informed their representative to consider the possibility that if their clerk forgot to provide me with the keys to the car that he could have also neglected to list the pre-existing damage to the car on the rental agreement. The company representative that I contacted was quite unprofessional and completely unwilling to even consider that an error on their part could have occurred. I would strongly urge the public to avoid this company completely even if the cost of a rental car with another company is higher. Zero stars would be my rating.Review fromHope E

1 starI'd like to give zero stars if possible.I rented a car from SIXT Car Rental on Aug.27,24 through ********** for $358.94.I proceed to pick up the car on Aug.28,24 with a Drop-off on Sep.2,24 from *********************,but was told right away by the employee at the pickup desk that I needed a credit card to a company my ************************ he would cancel the ************************ would issue me a full refund..At no point in me purchasing the Rental through ********** did it say that I needed a credit card(*Why even accept my purchase if I would need a credit card?) I Ended up ************************** Fraudulent activity on both *********************************** because Both companies wouldn't let me talk to someone higher up,They Both know that this is an on going issue with multiple people but have yet to do anything about it,Both companies kept telling me I needed to tell the other to cancel the reservation & get a full refund but both just keeps giving you the runaround. On Sep.8,24 ****** Gave me the money back only after me filing my own complaint with them, but jump to Oct.30,24 I go to use my *********** declining,I find out that on Oct,23,24 ****** was told I have to give the money ********* account is sitting at -$317.43 & is expected to come out of my pockets, because SIXT is saying I received the rental car/*********** I DIDNT.I HAVE PROOF THAT I LEFT THE AIRPORT WITHOUT KEYS TO A RENTAL/PROOF I LEFT IN AN UBER,PAID FOR OUT OF MY OWN POCKETS.WHY would a company lie on a Customer about something that could easily be proven to be wrong.I have PROOF/EVIDENCE of Both companies unprofessional ***************** truly need help on how to get out of this & I don't have money to waste of big companies who lie & steal from people who did every ***** at this time in life.I missed days of work because of these two unprofessional companies,I can't lose more money & time on this craziness.Review fromJaime S

1 starI would like to start by pleading with anyone seeing this to never use this rental company. When we arrived in ************* to pick up the compact SUV we reserved, we learned the vehicle assigned to us was a Mini. I don't think a Mini qualifys as an SUV, but since we were traveling with two other people later in the week, there was no way we could take the Mini. On the Sixt web site there are photos of larger vehicles, no mention of possibly getting a Mini. The Sixt employee at the desk pointed out that it says " or similar vehicle" in the fine print on their web page. So, then came the up sell to get us a larger vehicle, at a higher rate. On the last day of our trip, the rental vehicle would not start. Sixt was completely useless. First they told us to buy a new battery for the key fob and see if that fixed the problem. I told them I am not responsible for troubleshooting, fixing, or maintaining their vehicle. I was told if they brought us another vehicle we would have to pay to have the car that wouldn't start towed away. A security employee at the resort we were staying at was kind enough to jump the vehicle for us. When I told Sixt we had jump started it, they told me since someone other than their people had jumped it, it was implied we would be responsible if there were any problems as a result. At the end of our trip, we returned the vehicle at the ***************. We asked te employee there what we needed to next. He said to just leave the key fob on the dash and we were all set. No Sixt employee looked at the vehicle with us before or after we had it. The next day I received an email from Sixt claiming there were new scratches on the vehicle and we would be responsible for the cost of repairs. We did not cause any new damage to the vehicle. After disputing this, they dropped the claim. I seems like a lot of people have had the same thing happen to them when dealing with Sixt. I feel like this is a scam they pull on a lot of customersReview fromShannon S

Giving Sixt one star because I can't go any lower. Rented a car in July in Seattle with minor dings and scratches -- noted most on the web form when we rented the car. Also noted the garage was dark and no employee came to walk the car with us. After we returned the car, we received a bill for damage they say occurred while we had it -- but can produce no documentation with timestamp immediately after return and the employee we handed the car back to did not do a thorough inspection upon return. No proof that we created the scratch, just a bill and then a threatening letter that they'll report us to a collections agency. Seems to be standard operating procedure for Sixt. What a scam company.Review fromStacy F

1 starMy complaint is exactly the same as all the others. They rush you through the rental, provide no opportunity to formally record damages when you rent or return the vehicle. We returned the car, with no known problems, before **** employees arrived because we had an early flight. Within 2-3 days we received a threatening email that we owed almost $800 for damages. I had to look at the photos multiple times to even identify what they are claiming (e.g., one photo shows a tire with a red dot on it, that's it). See these Reddit posts where many, many SixT renters verify the exact same experience. ****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************Review fromJesse G

1 starI recently had a very negative experience with Sixt Car Rental that I feel compelled to share. Upon picking up my vehicle, there was no walk-around inspection conducted by the staff, which is standard practice at most rental agencies. The car was wedged between two SUVs in a parking garage, making it impossible for me to properly inspect for any imperfections before driving off.The self-service checkout process, which Sixt promotes as a way to save time, ended up being a huge disadvantage. I wasn't able to document any pre-existing damage, and when I reversed out of the garage, I had a line of cars behind me, further limiting my ability to inspect the vehicle.I barely used the carmainly for airport transportationso I was shocked when I returned it and was told by the staff member that she doubted a claim would be entered but still needed to note some scratches. To my dismay, I later received a charge of $1,700 for two scratches: one likely incurred in their own parking garage and the other possibly from a previous renter loading or unloading luggage.I've rented vehicles for numerous road trips in the past and have always taken great care to return them in better condition than I received them. This is the first time I've ever had a claim filed against me, despite driving this car less than any other rental.I will never use Sixt Car Rental again and strongly recommend choosing a more reliable company. Their self-service model leaves customers vulnerable to unwarranted claims for minor imperfections. Save yourself the headache and rent from a company that values transparency and customer service.
