1 starHusband and I rented a Tesla and prepaid for it. I updated the Hertz app that I would be late. We arrive to an empty Hertz location with two employees, no lights, dead flies everywhere.We provide the necessary info to one of the Hertz employees and were informed the Tesla was given out. We asked why, since we prepaid and updated our arrival. We were defensively told, "You didn't call." I replied, "We weren't aware we were supposed to call AND update the app. Why didn't anyone call US?". We were rudely informed, "It's not OUR responsibility to call YOU."We ended up with the *** *** anyway and were assured it was "basically the same as the Tesla". No further information about the car was provided.We later learned *** has wildly different stations ranging from 30 min. to 24 hours for a full charge (250 miles). We tried to extend the rental and were told no because we prepaid (?). The 12 Volt battery died on the way home. We were told by one employee to have it towed for $250 and told by another employee NOT **** it as towed, to just keep driving. We were 5 days late getting to CT due to the delay between charging the 12 volt and charging at the stations. I missed 5 days of work.We consistently updated Hertz.Randomly, my Mother in Law (Not my husband who's name and phone number were on the rental) received a text from "Rental Recovery" looking for my ************** We BOTH reached out to "Rental Recovery" MULTIPLE times and left voicemails. No response. We assumed it was a scam. We called Hertz and were told "Your account is notated. You're all good." The NEXT DAY "Rental Recovery" shows up and takes the car.Two days after, we get a certified letter saying, "Contact us within 10 days or a third party will take the car and you will need to pay the fee."I called Hertz & said the car was already picked up. They had no record of the car being picked up because the location DIDN'T UPDATE THEM.Oh, and they tried charging my card random amounts every single day.Review fromNina S

2 starsthis is my first time reporting a business to the BBB but I felt I had to after this is the 4th time this has happened to me after renting a car from this company @ the ***************** . when returning the car they will tell you looks good! Your receipt will be emailed to you & then when you check your receipt youll notice they charged you a 400$ outside cleaning , inside cleaning , one time for smoking (and I dont even smoke) but 4 times now they tried to overcharge me 400$ and I had to call and flip out get a refund. Im starting to think they do this to all *************** up to you to notice the false charges.!Review fromSarkis K

1 staron dec 23 7 am family of 7 are going to ********* from **. a trip we planned six months prior to this date. My 2022 ***** suburban dies on the freeway just about ********************************************************** to go to the airport which is about a hour and a half away opposite direction keep in mind there was many locations that could of swapped the rental but they were unable to reach anyone since I was parked unsafe a tow truck arrived and asked if we need a tow so since I was unable to reach a understanding with the roadside rep I towed to a shop which I paid $417.76 (tow and repairs) as I started to drive same issue belt keeps cutting this is 7 hours later when hertz said its the holidays thats why its hard. I had tickets to a show with about 20 other family and friends in Vegas plus my room I had reservations with couldnt cancel so Im having the worst day. I call roadside 3 pm and they schedule a ride to the airport to go get another vehicle as I go leave my family on the side of the road I go to the airport they are acting like they dont even have me as a customer I call support again asked for a supervisor back and forward 10pm the tow truck brings my rental to *** for a swap the roadside brings someone elses car that was a tcp vehicle different make different color I was just speechless so tow said lets go take this car and bring ur car we get back to North Hollywood where the rental was he dropped off the vehicle that belongs to someone else and tells me hey Im sorry but my boss is making me drop this call leaves me back to square 1 at 1 am the next day. I spent 21 hours on the road spoke to every supervisor all they where saying is were sorry and yet didnt help me. At 2 am I get to the airport asked to speak to a manager a manager of ********************* a disrespectful and aggressive manager said he wasnt able to help me because my rental was due 8 days ago which is wrong and said the only thing I am going to leave in is by foot and mocReview fromAmanda M

1 starIf I could, I would give zero stars! What a horrible experience!Rented a tesla, which is the only reason we used Hertz (they were the only vendor in our area that had this vehicle available for rent at that time). We go to pick up the car and the one *** working goes to the parking lot to locate what we rented. She wonders around because she cannot find the car and comes back to tell us that she does not have the car we asked for because the cars in stocked were mislabeled. How do you mislabel a car??? STRIKE 1!We settled for a smaller vehicle and we had to wait for it to be cleaned. At least the *** reduced our rental cost since we had to take the smaller vehicle. We finally get the car, do our "walk-around" and note the dings/damages already present and what the energy level is at, and we leave. After driving all day, we get to our destination only to discover that the car's inspection tag is out of date by over 5 months (June 2023). Are you kidding me????? STRIKE 2!We get back to town the following day and turn the car in 2 hours earlier than planned. However, it was after hours so I was unable to speak with anyone regarding the inspection tag, so I called first thing the next day. I was put on hold, waited for 10 minutes, and then hung up on. I called back, was greeted and asked to be put back on hold. I expressed I did not care to be on hold for another 10 minutes only to be hung up on. The *** rudely told me she was with someone and did not know how long she would be and put me on hold. I was hung up on again. I called the main corporate office and was told nothing would be addressed until my "ticket" was closed and I was charged for the rental (they got to get my $ first). Once I was alerted this was done, I called back to finish filing my complaints. I was then told I would not be updated any further. A month later, I get charged more fees even though I was led to believe the "ticket" was closed. STRIKE 3.UNACCEPTABLE. What a scam! AVOID HERTZ IF YOU CANReview fromJim T

1 starWhat a scam. I stopped before going back to the airport in Gulfport, MS and filled the tank with gas at the cost of 26.04. I then drove 2.5 miles to the airport and was later charged for 3.00 gallons of fuel at 9.99 a gallon. This is a scam!!!Review fromMichael D

1 starWe rented a full-size SUV paid for in advance. We got to ******* on Christmas day from *********** only to find they were not going to give us a full-size SUV. They had a small SUV that would not fit our children and our luggage. They switched us over to a minivan that we could not see out the back window because our luggage had to be stacked up and luggage on top of our children. They had full-size SUVs on their lot, but would not give it to us. Even though we had a paid for in advance reservation, that said, full-size SUV. I will never do business with these people again stay clear of Hertz rental car.Review fromReynold M

1 starWorst customer service ever !! I have been trying to get my rental car towed that ran out of charge less than 100 yards from the rental return at the *** airport for 2 days now. I called in tow soon as charge ran out and car is still sitting on ride of road and Hertz has the nerve to be charging me for late return and for everyday the car is no picked up. And to make matters worst they use a out side tow company with no direct phone number to call and Hertz has no idea when the car will be towed ??????. Absolutely ridiculousReview fromStanley Z

1 starI have very bad experience with the rental company. I rented a car from Priceline.com in Hertz ******, but acutally Hertz ****** is one of the franchises of Hertz, the rental company name is ****** is First rent car In ******, a very small car rental company.First of all, the Hertz ****** overcharged me, and they corrected the issue after back and forth communication with them for over one and one half month, but then they asked me to pay them with international wiring instead of credit card payment. First rent a car ****** is one of Frenchise of Hertz **, but Hertz ** doesn't have power and guidance to correct Hertz ****** business practice so Hertz ** customer service doesn't provide any help to resolve the issue. 1 starI wish there was a way for the BBB to shut these people down. I also wish I would have read these reviews first. HORRIBLE business practices. We rented a car through them and their works were rude (and probably paid like crap). We show up at the airport and get zero help with finding a shuttle. The lady at the counter gave us incorrect information and we had to walk to their agency to pick up the car. We then said we would drop it off at 6am on the day we leave and would at least like a shuttle that day.We turn in the car at 6am and no one is at the counter. They show up at 6:10 am and said you should have said you were returning the car at 6am. Our receipt CLEARLY shows 6am return time so we ended up walking to the airport.Then they charge us for damages we didn't do. Thankfully my wife had ********** to document EVERYTHING we found.On the pictures we got back it was an ABSOLUTE JOKE. Half of the pictures they charged for on 'check out' were the pictures they took when we checked the car in. We know for a fact because they are time stamped. One check out picture is of me pointing to the damages that we found pre-rental. LOL. They added a fuel charge when we left MORE gas than we had when we received the car. They took a blurry picture but whatever we have a non-blurry picture. It's clear that they are just overcharging and hoping people are dumb enough not to dispute. AVOID the pain of dealing with them and go with someone else.
