1 starHertz is very horrible. I rented from the **********,** location and at the time of pick up they didnt have the vehicle I reserved for so the lady there gave me a bigger vehicle size at the same rate with the 20% discount which totaled ******* for the month which I have in my email this exact agreement. On the day the vehicle was supposed to be returned I called over the phone to extend it for another week and was told that I would only be charged $312 which I have the transaction in my email by my card company. On Jan 6th when I went to return the vehicle back to the same location I checked my receipt and was charged $1917 for the rental instead of the $******* plus $352 for the week extension instead of $312. I asked the agent in the location about it and was told somehow the discount was knocked off and nobody knows why and to call the billing department so I spoke with them and was told I would be refunded $320.80 with 5-7 business days. I called back to check the status of the refund on Jan 10th and was told by a supervisor who was very rude that it was denied because I extended the vehicle and none of the agents ever told me that you breach the contract if you extend which I have rented with hertz numerous times and am a rewards member with them. She didnt try to offer any compromise just flat out refused to listen about the original agreement which they failed to somehow see in the system. I have proof of the agreement and transaction for the extension plus Im sure the calls are recorded. They want to over charge me for their mishap which is unacceptable. I will never rent from hertz again I will be taking my money to enterprise where you dont get over charges and unknown charges.Review fromRobert M

1 starI recently had a rather disappointing experience with Hertz car rental, which has prompted me to share my feedback. My reservation was for a "Manager's Special vehicle at the Birmingham, AL airport location. Unfortunately, upon my arrival, I was informed that there were no vehicles available in the class I had reserved. Given the lack of availability, I was left with no choice but to accept a vehicle upgrade to a higher class, resulting in an unexpected charge of $113.42. While I understand that unforeseen circumstances can lead to changes in vehicle availability, the fact that there were no cars in my reserved class was disheartening. I have reserved cars in the past at other rental locations and was given complimentary upgrades when there were no cars available in the class that I reserved. This time I was forced to pay for the upgrade or be left without a car. What added to the frustration was the lack of transparency and communication. I reached out to customer service and followed their advice to speak with the location manager upon returning the vehicle. However, when I returned the vehicle, the location manager was unavailable. Despite leaving my contact information, I never received a callback or any resolution to my concerns. The need to pay for a vehicle upgrade due to the unavailability of cars in the reserved class, coupled with the challenges in reaching the location manager, left me with a less-than-pleasant impression of my Hertz rental experience. While I have had positive experiences with Hertz in the past, this bait and switch incident has cast a shadow on my overall satisfaction. I hope that Hertz takes customer concerns seriously and works towards improving communication and resolving issues in a more efficient manner.Review fromMich H

1 starHertz car renters beware!! This is my first time using Hertz, making a reservation through a third party website. I have never had issues with being up-charged until I was at the Hertz rental counter at BNA. The only charges (aside of my reservation selections) verbally communicated was the agent being persistent I should allow Hertz to take care of filling the tank, which we all know airport prices are insane. I repeatedly declined and even had to state it wouldn’t make sense as I would be paying more and had to firmly state to take it off. Everyone can relate, after a long travel day, standing in line and having a few hours road trip ahead, paying attention to the fine print is easily overlooked. Now, I did sign the document and noticed charges were higher than what I reserved, thinking it was odd, but didn’t say anything and that is where I messed up. Once I got to my destination and compared my reservation to charges, there was a significant difference. Calling Customer Service was useless as the agent was firm I agreed to the charges at the counter, when I signed. Completely shady and the company lacks integrity in doing right by their customers. If you continue to rent through Hertz, BEWARE and be sure to hold up that line, taking your time to review all charges are accurately reflected or you will have to eat the cost, as I did.Review fromHartwig

1 starHertz should de ASHAMED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I planned a trip from Alabama to Texas for a family reunion. Boy am I angry and disappointed. I found a good deal online and booked way in advance. I ordered a large SUV to travel in style and a bit luxury. When I arrived to pick up my rental, I was told that they had no SUV I rented. They offered me a way smaller SUV interested. I was angry and asked the lady, if she could do anything to help. She denied. She told, I have 2 options: take the smaller SUV or cancel for a refund. Really? I called Hertz headquarter and explained. The "gentleman" looked up the reservation and told, that I made the reservation with Priceline, and he will not help. If I had made the reservation with Hertz directly, he could help and could make a change to another location. Only resolution he offered: cancel this reservation and book a new one. Of course, then the booking would be almost double then I have prepaid for the large SUV. What a disappointment. Of course we had no other choice, we had to take the small SUV. That this small SUV stank like **** to cigarette smoke was just the top of the iceberg. We are renting quite often, and out next trip will be in April of 2024. I told my wife, I will never ever rent with Hertz anymore and I will make sure, that all of my friends, etc get notice of this. I look forward to her from Hertz for an explanation. "we are sorry" just will not do it. Hartwig R******Review fromEdward B

1 starI made a reservation to pick up a Hertz rental car at ************************************************************************ on Jan 9, **** (drop off at same location on Jan 11th). I am not from ******** but from western Canada and was visiting family in the ******** area. For some reason, I had a bad gut feeling about the rental and on Jan 2nd decided to go physically to the pick-up/drop-off location noted above. When I arrived at **********************************************, I could not find any Hertz staff or rental cars. I spoke with a neighbouring business person who advised me that Hertz had not been operating from that location for approximately 8-9 months. He confirmed that if I had shown up on Jan 9th expecting to pick up my rental it would not have been there. This was very disconcerting to me and would have completely spoiled my 2 day trip plans. And...I suspect Hertz would have charged me for "failing to pick up my rental," which would have led to a lengthy dispute with your company also. I went online to try to change my rental pick up to another ******** location but could not do so. So I cancelled my rental completely and went with another company. This was such a bad situation, and I wonder how many other people have faced this. (The neighbour business person told me I was not the first).Review fromAlain C

1 starWorst service ever! I felt discriminated against, insulted, harassed, and treated as if I did not deserve to be given any type of service. I made a reservation online with an Apple Master card credit card, but the system placed a hold on the card and advised me to go to the local store to pick up the vehicle. When I arrived at the store, I was not even acknowledge, until employee **** took care of me and informed me that hertz does not accept Apple master card, *********** credit card, ************ (a very well known store countrywide), I asked the employee to provide an official document stating it she showed me the Hertz website stating the opposite (all major credit cards are accepted including ***** MasterCard, and American Express).I asked to get the manager and the manager ***** was stuck in the same mentality yet the website stated the total opposite as I explained as well and she did not want to hear my legitimate explanation, I asked her to call someone above her and and she did, initially the person over the phone said they did not accept PayPal then a few minutes later, he called back and said she needed to accept *********** card.Soon after I asked the manager to attend to me directly and she kept making up excuses not to do so but as soon as said I was going to report her directly to Hertz corporate office, her demeanor changed and I was finally able to use my *********** card to finalize the rental of a Tesla Model 3 which did not have ready.during this time, this whole process took over two hours that I did not need to spend at the Hertz store.I felt as if I was begging for Service and after about additional 45 minutes later the manager came with her phone asking to sign on the screen, I asked, what am I signing? The manager stated that the car is all OK without me looking at it. And she stated I guess we have to look at itoverall, three hours to rent a car is unacceptable business ethics.Review fromRichard R

1 starWe rented a car from Hertz at CLE Airport. Our pickup time was approximately 9:00 PM, and we arrived about 5 minutes early. The car was filthy inside and out. There was food stuffed between the front seats and the console. The inside of the windshield was so dirty that oncoming headlights glared and blocked our view of the highway. The headlights pointed down toward the pavement about 5 feet in front of the car. The vehicle was an accident waiting to happen. The next morning we got a message on the dash saying that the battery in the key fob was dead. Hertz sent us to a rental location over 58 miles away, although there were many locations with available cars within 8 miles. We wasted 4 hours and traveled over 120 miles trying to get a replacement, and Hertz accepts no responsibility. They offer no restitution and the manager in customer service refuses to return the call. We will never use Hertz, nor its affiliates again.
