Well I'm a Gold member with Hertz and I reserved and paid for a full size vehicle a few days in advance prior to leaving California....I also prepaid for the gas as well! I arrive a few minutes late due to my delayed flight in San Francisco, and they didn't have the car that I reserved and paid for. I go to the area and ask for the vehicle that I reserved, and the guy tries to give me some electric car. I was like I don't want that because I've read reviews that some charging stations don't work with certain cars, and you would have to keep driving to find one. Long story short, I see a Reserved section, and you would think the car would be there, but nothing. At this point, I was upset and still had a 30 to 45 minute drive to my hotel in Fort Worth, so I decided to go with a Chevy Equinox. I also met another guy there who was also upset, but I'm not sure if it was for the same reason as mine. The only thing I know is that this needs to be fixed. Why are we paying for cars and reserving them only to arrive, and they are not here...come on Hertz you literally have a Reserved section! What is it really for? I've been a loyal Hertz customer for a long time...maybe it's time to try Enterprise or Avis! I wish I could have given a zero, but the one for given because the guy who checked me out at the Exit was extremely nice and courteous!

Not only is Hertz rental car the worst rental car on earth, they may be the worst company on earth. Customer service is rude, you wait on hold for 30 minutes plus, no one picks up at locations. I was told by a supervisor that if I need to exchange a vehicle due to the smell inside, I will need to drive around all day to find a location with a similar vehicle. What is my time worth? Nothing to them apparently. This is the second vehicle they have given me. The first was making screaming noises down the highway. Now this one smells as though someone had a smoking cigarette competion inside. It is making myself and my children sick to our stomachs.

We had prepaid for a rental car from Hertz, and declined all additional coverage. After we returned the car, we received a receipt showing that we were being charged over $400 above what we paid for premium roadside service and additional coverage we said NO to. We reached out to customer service through phone and email with NO response. We will never rent with Hetz again.

Without a doubt the worst rental experience I have ever had at Hertz Honolulu Airport. First, it took over 40 minutes to pick up a vehicle we had reserved. We sat in the waiting area in the garage until my wife finally had had enough and started walking back to the counter area. On her way she came across someone that worked their and we finally got our vehicle. I could have looked past this as no bid deal, until after I returned the vehicle. Even though there were two employees inspecting the car, including one that had to scan the car back in through the windshield, they claimed two days later by email that there was a crack in the windshield. I found out by email, when they contacted me to fill out an incident report. There was no incident, and there was no crack upon return. Their claims department closed the claim. However, I still have not received my deposit back. I have tried for over a month to contact customer service by email, 'contact us' forms, phone calls, and I never was able to actually talk to a human being. The phone number I was directed to on their website does not work. The $500.00 lesson learned is to take pictures when you pick up your vehicle, and when you return it. I will never ever use Hertz again.

I reserved a vehicle online for the dates of March 1-4 at Wilmington Airport in NC. I was supposed to pay only $148.88 "at time of rent" but when I picked up the car I was charged $165.39 due to a "missing airport fee." This feels like a bait & switch because I was quoted one thing and made to pay another. I would like to be refunded the difference. On top of the surprise extra payment, the customer service experience was poor. I was not given instructions on how to find the car in the lot and ended up having to use the alarm to locate it. Also, I was told the car was in mint condition and when I saw it, it was covered in scratches and dents, which I had to return inside to document on the paperwork. When I returned the car, I had to walk all the way back outside because no one had told me to make sure I know the mileage left on the vehicle when I do the return. The customer service reps I dealt with, especially upon pickup, had a bad attitude and seemed completely unconcerned with providing assistance to locate the vehicles, ensure they were in good condition, and remedy the additional unquoted payment. The customer service rep I dealt with on the phone to report this incident so I could get my refund also had a bad attitude. He even interrupted me when I was telling him what happened. The fact that I cannot get in touch with a real person to resolve this is frustrating. At this point, I'm just thinking about disputing with my bank.

I made a prior arrangement with Expedia arrangement with Hertz for a rental in Fort Lauderdale. However, shortly upon my arrival, I was informed that they only had a 100 % electric vehicle that was available for the deal. I told her I didn't need insurance as I had one, I paid for the rental because the lady at the desk told me it would be okay for the trip to the keys to see family having surgery and the Everglades. However, the gentleman who came to teach me about the car and how to charge told me in no way would this car work and would leave me on the side of the road due to the lack of charges and distance I was driving. He told me to go talk to the lady and change cars, which I did. She moved some things around and told me to wait a bit. I did this she showed me a different car and she told me we just had to redo the paperwork. She changed the paperwork adding insurance even though we had just discussed I did not need it and charged me an upcharge for the different car I found out via email. I sent an email to be refunded and was told that "it was signed for so nothing we can do" WHAT A BAIT AND SWITCH . I strongly advise against renting from Hertz due to their false advertizing, bait and switch, shade practices to take advantage of customers and exceptionally poor customer service. All I wanted was someone to refund to honor the price expedia said (which did not say it was electric only) and the car insurance I said in the first place i did not want or need. DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ

As others have said, formerly the literal "Gold" standard and even in their name of the rewards program - has become an exercise is futility and frustration. Poor customer service, vehicles not cleaned, charges that you have to contest since they cannot present them at check-in (filled vehicle - submit receipt), customer service fully automated and impossible to speak to anyone. How would I rate the service - 5/10 and would never recommend use. Find an alternative - anyone but especially the greens are betters.

I booked my car online. I paid almost $60 in taxes for that transaction. When I went to pick up the car they charged me another $40 in taxes and then the car I had rented wasnt available so I had to take the car they had due to time constraints. Then they charged me an additional $75 for that car. This car rental agency is the never ending well. Oh, and I forgot that they put a $360 hold on my credit card that still has not been released.

Hertz requires 30 rides each week and the rental amount for the next week to "auto-renew." I was only able to complete 27 of the 30 rides required when Primary Children's Hospital admitted my daughter for four days due to her complexities. I managed to make enough for the renewal, but because I only had 27 of 30 trips required, they didn't auto-renew. I sent an email to Hertz, and they ignored the first one. So I called, and the guy on the phone said that the emails "sound harsh and the human side doesn't always get through" and to "email them again." So, I emailed them again and am still waiting to hear back. I emailed a third, and nothing. So I called again, and they said they were charging me for two weeks now and that I could return it on Friday (the current day is Tuesday). Knowing that they would bill me for two weeks, the obvious thing would be to wait until Friday, as they suggested, so that I could even pay for what they would charge me. THE NEXT DAY, they marked the car stolen and TOW it from my house! I told the tow guy about it, and he said the previous two drivers he towed that morning told him the EXACT SAME THING!!! A few days later, they took $2,400 TWENTY FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS from my account!!!! HUGE SCAM. I will sue them, and several others are right now as well.
