1 starTheir **************** is horrible. We were treated horribly last January. They sent a letter with $100 certificate to use on future rentals -supposedly Went to use it on a future rental and could not apply it to "prepaid" When I inquired I received the run around with late response emails only to tell me to call an 800 number. When I called they told me the certificate "would be applied to prepaid as written in the contract"I asked for this in writing and was told I would have to contact them via email Contacted them via email AGAIN and another very late response to tell me it COULD NOT be applied to prepaid (paying at the counter was still more expensive even with the use of the certificate).I will not recommend them to anyone!Review fromJohn T

1 starBeware! Reservations are worthless here. Made a one way reservation due to weather/flight issues and get to the airport only to be told we wont honor your reservation. Im a former Presidents Circle customer. Their explanation was basically tough and we are the victims here because the reservation system is out of our control. Horrible service. Avoid at all costs.Review fromMatt W

1 starWe are both disabled veterans. We needed a rental car on 1 Apr 24. Manager '******' (or similar spelling) made us wait 30 minutes with a relatively light customer line. She was rude and told us to sit down. We requested a car and were given a huge gas-guzzling old-model Dodge Truck that was dirty on the inside with pet hair and outside with dirt. We even spent an additional $16 for a carwash thereafter getting it. The seats were uncomfortable and the safety features were barely passable. There were no audio cues when cars were close, and the rear-view camera was so dark and barely visible that it too, was a safety hazard. ****** seemed to 'size-up' my wife ******* because of the way she casually dressed and because of her Brazilian accent. ******* felt offended. On 3 Apr 24 we dropped off the vehicle. ******* dressed up nicely and ****** seemed to give her a little more respect. ******* wanted to demonstrate poor customer service audibly to other customers who were there and was visibly upset. I asked her to leave to avoid further conflict with ******. ****** was trying to give me an excuse as to why we were given a huge truck when we asked/reserved a car. She rambled on about it was okay because it was a military-contracted vehicle. Why does that concern me? You assume because we are veterans that we want a huge truck? I suggest next time actually reading the reservation and not assuming anything. The truck didn't have ******** whatsoever making it uncomfortable from the sun beating down on us inside the car. ******* got sunburns. We will not use this location again, and will try to tell at least 50 other people about this experience. Hertz doesn't even have a customer service complaint phone number. Unacceptable. Period.Review fromStacey P

1 starMy family rented a car for the first time. I had made the reservations online, and declined their additional coverage options. My husband was aware to decline anything additional that was offered when he picked up the car. After showing the employee our car insurance information, they still added that fee and had my husband unknowingly sign agreeing to the additional $35/day. This ended up being $250 for our vacation when we brought our own insurance in case of any accidents. They are unwilling to refund the money stating that my husband signed & agreed upon these charges, when in fact, he declined the coverage but signed the screen afterwards, not aware they still added them any how.We are currently fighting through our credit card company and would never recommend Hertz to anyone looking for a reputable rental car company.Review fromHoward C.

1 starLIARS AND THIEVES!!! DO NOT RENT FROM HURTZ!!! Read all of this, all customers need to know the truth about this place. The absolute worst service I've received to date. They are literally stealing money from us (close to $400). My wife rented a SUV while her car was getting fixed at a shop. 1. (LIE and THEFT #1) She specifically rented a FULL SIZE SUV, due to children. On the contract it says full sized SUV. They attempted to give a mid-size SUV. THAT IS THEFT, charging for a full-sized and issuing a mid-size is stealing money period. Plus THIS WAS HAPPENING TO OTHER CUSTOMERS IN THE STORE AT THAT EXACT MOMENT WE WERE THERE. 2. While driving on a major 6 lane highway the tire blew out a side wall. Nothing got ran over. This incredibly unsafe tire just decided to blow in rush hour with my whole family in the car. My 7 and 8 yr old were scared to death as I'm swerving through traffic attempting to safely get to the side of the road. It took this pathetic company close to 8 HOURS to decide to get the tire fixed. They literally said (at the time) Hurtz will be covering the whole charge (LIE #2). Then at the last minute, they said they wouldn't pay for the tire unless there's an oil change (THEFT #2). 3. (LIE #3) After returning the vehicle they said they would leave the contract open until a manage calls us to straight things out???? Even though there was nothing to talk about. It was all handled during the 8hr time frame they held my whole family hostage for an oil change they forced upon us. They NEVER called us back and charged my wife for not only the tire but the oil change as well. 4. When my wife attempted to call this specific location, they hung up on her. After a call back she was told the manager there REFUSED to talk with her!!!!!!!!! I'm beside myself with this treatment. THANK GOD HER CREDIT CARD COMPANY IS ON OUR SIDE AND IT WILL BE REPORTED AS A FRAUDULANT CHARGE.Review fromJoe K

1 starDear Hertz Customer Service,I am writing to express my concerns about a troubling experience I had with a rental from your ******, ** location at ********************** (Phone: 630-8xx-9xxx) from April 2nd to April 4th. My expectation was to receive an *** as per my booking, but upon arrival, I was provided with a full-size ******* Sonata and still charged the *** rate. When I queried this discrepancy, I was informed by the staff that no ***s were available, despite having rented one the week prior from the same location.Additionally, the vehicle provided was not inspected in my presence, nor was I involved in any condition report process; instead, I was hurriedly asked to sign on a digital device. The car itself was not in a satisfactory state, showing significant wear and tear and was not clean. Most concerning is the recent claim of damage to the vehicle, about which my wife, who was listed only as an emergency contact and did not accompany me on the trip, was contacted. I have not been formally notified of this alleged damage by your team directly, despite my attempts to reach out after being abruptly disconnected following a lengthy hold. This series of events has not only caused inconvenience but also prompts concern regarding the transparency and integrity of billing and vehicle handling practices at this specific location. As the rental was made under my company name, Fuel Me LLC, and paid with a company card, this matter also potentially impacts our corporate relationship.I kindly request a thorough investigation into this matter and assurance that such incidents are addressed to prevent future customer dissatisfaction. Please let me know the steps that will be taken to resolve this situation and ensure proper handling in the future.Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.Best regards,Review fromNoel C

1 starRidiculous experience and feel that we experienced fraud. Hertz voided the LDW we purchased at the beginning of the rental and forced us to pay!!!!! In August 2023, my boyfriend and I rented a vehicle from Hertz in Buffalo, NY, and purchased the Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) for this rental. On the final day of my rental, the vehicle was stolen. We immediately reported the theft to the Buffalo Police Department, visited the nearest Hertz location, completed all necessary paperwork, and returned the keys to their staff. Throughout the entire process, we confirmed with Hertz staff that any damage cost and fee associated with this theft would be covered by the LDW we purchased. In February 2024, we received an email from Hertz claiming damage to the vehicle and requesting payment. We reached out to them with the proof of the LDW we purchased which should have covered the loss due to theft. We have contacted Christian W. at Hertz and the Hertz Damage Recovery Unit to clarify the situation. Despite several attempts, the only response we received was that my LDW coverage had been voided for this rental. When we asked for an explanation for voiding our LDW, they ceased communication. The representatives promised to escalate the issue to a manager or Christian W., but the next time we hear about this issue is when a debt-collecting company (First Financial Asset Management). Now, they are asking us to pay for this loss. Hertz's website clearly states that LDW will relieve any financial responsibility associated with the theft. It is crazy that they voided the LDW we bought after the theft happened. What's the purpose for customers to buy this LDW? The customer service is terrible and passive. Without providing necessary evidence sending a debt collector is forcing us to pay!!!!!!Review fromMel K

1 starHad a terrible experience with Hertz. Their customer service is comically bad. I reserved the car a month in advance. An hour before pickup, they canceled my reservation, with zero explanation and the person left a voicemail saying, "if we don't hear from you, we'll assume you're ok with this." I called the number back and could not reach **************. When I went to the desk, they just said "we don't have any cars" and that I'd be refunded the full amount. A week later, I saw I was never refunded. Their phone tree is terrible so I spent 40 min trying to get their billing department. What a mess.Review fromRaGina D

1 starI rented a car through Hertz to drive for Lyft. The first car gave me mechanical issues. The replacement car, an EV wouldnt charge/didnt hold a charge correctly. I was told upon returning the car, no charges would be made as a courtesy for the inconvenience. Within a few days, charges were made to my Lyft account. ********************** maintains that they did not authorize the charges. Lyft maintains that they wouldnt have made the charges unless instructed to do so from Hertz. For nearly a month I have been trying to get a refund for the charges and both companies keep BSing me around.
