1 starBeware of Hertz Rental Car Scam - A Disastrous Experience!I recently had a horrific encounter with Hertz that I feel compelled to share. My online reservation (Reservation # ***********) initially quoted a total of $353 USD. However, upon arriving to pick up the car, I was blindsided by an outrageous demand for additional liability insurance, purportedly doubling the total to an exorbitant $952 USD! This shocking increase left me feeling utterly cheated and deeply dissatisfied. To compound the injustice, the options presented to me were not only financially unreasonable but downright ludicrous. Even opting for liability insurance through my credit card coverage would have proven more expensive than purchasing comprehensive insurance directly from Hertz. It felt like I was being taken for a ride in the worst possible way.Adding insult to injury, the vehicle I received was in deplorable condition, dirty and poorly maintained. This only served to exacerbate my frustration and disappointment with Hertz's subpar service. What's even more disheartening is the dismissive attitude I encountered when I attempted to address my concerns with the staff. Instead of addressing my legitimate grievances, they callously laughed it off, admitting that this was just standard practice for Hertz, preying on unsuspecting customers for profit. This level of indifference and lack of integrity is utterly unacceptable. As a result of this egregious experience, I have completely lost faith in Hertz and will never consider renting from them again, whether for personal or business use. I implore others to heed my warning and steer clear of Hertz, opting instead for rental companies that prioritize honesty and transparency in their dealings with customers. Trust me, you'll be spared the headache and heartache in the long run!Review fromSharon B

1 starRented a car for an accident that wasn't my fault. First I had put a $50 hold on MY credit card Then, after I returned the car, I was charged a gas fee without my permission that was ridiculous.Review fromThomas G

1 starThese people lost my most valuable documents. My ** CITIZENSHIP CERTIFICATE and my NAME CHANGE CERTIFICATE Exposing me to identity theft and numerous issues that require this critical documentation. I have contacted them since day one to retrieve my property and they have been nothing but negligent, and disregarding of my concerns. They DON'T care. These are the documents I have been working for 9 years in this country and they don't give a **** about it. *************************** the manager at the ****** location in ************** (********************************************************), especially, doesn't care and won't provide any help. I have sent dozens of emails since day one. They don't care. I have been to the physical location, sent emails, made calls to everyone, and they keep washing their hands of their responsibility.Review fromCarrie S

1 starThis is the worst rental company I've ever dealt with. They sent me with a mechanically faulty car. When I was stranded on the way to a meeting for work I called them and they said they would sent AAA right out, that they should text while we were on the phone. Two and a half hours later someone text that they were on their way to help. They then told me I would have to return the car back to the airport to switch it out over 30 miles into downtown *******. When I told them this wasn't going to happen they assured me they would have someone on standby to start the rental when I was to leave at 4 am the next day. I finally made other arrangements to get to the airport after the tow company text me they were on the way over an hour late. I text them back to tow the car back to hertz. The fob was in it. It was out in front of the hotel and I had left for my flight. Nearly a week, later I've now spoke to them on two different occasions that they needed to speak to "their" tow company as to the location of "their" car and they have charged my account over $700 additional dollars because of the overdue car. I have pics of the known problem at different locations initialed by their employees and they still sent the car. This whole situation is absolutely ridiculous and they have made no attempts to make this right. Zero stars would be too much for this company.Review fromLakisha S

1 starI recently had the worst experience ever renting a car from hertz rental car, Houston hobby airport location. I booked and paid ahead of time online for my trip. The website stated that the location doesn’t close until 12:30am. I arrived in Houston at 11:35pm to find the checkout counter closed. I tried dialing the locations phone number and got an automated service stating the location closed at 9:30pm with no option to speak to a customer service rep. I paid $30 for Uber to take me to the pick up location, which was also closed. I then paid the Uber $104 to drive me to my destination. I googled and called several different online numbers for hertz with no answer. At 7:00 I was able to reach a number that answered. I explained the nights events and his the location was closed early which inconvenienced me, they didn’t care and had no resolution. Instead they told me to pick up my rental if I still wanted it. I arrived to hertz pickup at little past 8:00. There was one worker and numerous of frustrated customers lined up outside. The location is very small. Once reaching the counter, they didn’t have the vehicle I paid for and tried to force me to pay for an upgrade which cost more. I disagreed and suddenly a vehicle appeared for us to use. I was told it had just arrived, we sent outside to a vehicle dripping with water. I left with the vehicle. I returned the car at 3:30am but was booked until 7am. I got on my flight and after arriving home hours later, I received a receipt charging my debit $400. I called to see what the charge was and was told for smoking. I DO NOT SMOKE!!! I told them there absolutely is no way there was a smoke smell and I need to speak with a supervisor. I was denied a supervisor at the time and was told I would receive a return call. It’s been a week and I’ve called several times for a manager just to be told again and again they’d have one call me. I still haven’t been able to speak to anyone to help me. I have never smoked in my life!!Review fromWilliam S

1 starBeware Hidden Fees: My $750 Overcharge Nightmare with Hertz at *** I rented a Tesla Model 3 with Hertz online and I am Presidents Circle with them. As we got to the counter I asked about the cost of upgrading to the Model Y and was told it would be $14 more per day. This was similar to price I had seen online and I agreed to this and took the car. Upon returning the car I noticed the charge was actually $150 more per day resulting in me paying $750 more than my original charge for this upgrade. I never would have agreed to this and immediately contacted Hertz to protest it and they did nothing. I contacted AMEX to dispute the charge. I am reaching out to their rewards and executive CS team about this as well. This was absolutely dishonest on their part and truly unacceptable. I have never had this kind of experience with a car rental company. Take this as a PSA and avoid Hertz at ***.Review fromJames G

1 starHertz rental is a scam and rip off. Wish I had looked up reviews before I used them for my mom. She picked up her rental in ******** ** airport on 3/10 then returned to ************* on 3/25. She was originally flying in to ***** but her flight was changed. She did have the car for a little over two weeks and the most miles she acquired was driving to and from airport to house in Hernando **. When she picked up car at airport they give you keys and point out your car and you get in and take off. Never asked if she needed help or wanted to walk around car. When returning it to airport she had to find someone to ask if what to do with keys. Finally found someone and then she was on her way to her gate. The next day we receive and email from hertz saying we need to provide the accident report for the damaged from wreck. My mom did not have an accident!!! I tried calling emailing calling emailing and nothing from anyone. Then receive another email wanting to fill out claim report. Then another email wanting insurance. And then receive a bill for $900 for damages. Someone finally calls my mom and the first thing they ask for is her insurance policy number so they can bill insurance for damages. She tells them that *** been trying to contact them and they could talk with me regarding the issue. **** called me and was very rude tried telling me insurance would pay it because I told her we would not be!! Long story short I told her what Ive read on reviews for them and I would be contacting my lawyer regarding this matter. At that point she didnt want to talk to me. Weve never rented from hertz before and wish we never had. Weve always used Enterprise and never had any issues. Only reason i chose hertz is because rental was cheaper. Dont rent from hertz its a horrible experience.Review fromDawn S

1 starRented a cargo van two months in advance to finalize a move by cleaning out my storage unit 5 states away. Four days before the pickup date, I receive a call from Hertz informing me they no longer rent out cargo vans. Their alternative was a box truck but I am taking my dogs and I am pretty sure I can't travel interstates with them in the cargo area nor do I want them to be back there. Hertz left me in a bind to try and find alternative means but being so close to pick up I have to pay more and make do with less. Only thing available is a pickup. Plus, I have to cancel our lodging and track down campsites since my belongings won't be able to be secured. Weather is now an issue to. A decent business would honor the contracts people paid for. They even had the nerve to tell me that just this one time they would refund my entire payment... um they cancelled on me. They should have to pay me extra to make up for their bad business practices.Review fromQue M

1 starThis location practices bait and switch sales tactics and has poor store hygiene .I provided my booking and was informed that there was not a vehicle of my type on its way back nor at the location. There was no update for when the vehicle will arrive either. I was advised that there is a policy that states that reservations within 24 hrs are not always guaranteed. I asked for ****** to show me where I could find that verbiage . ****** advised that he doesnt make the website. ****** also advised that he doesnt make the policy and that it was a policy that was passed down to him because he works at Hertz. . I also asked why there wasnt a call placed to me ( I witnessed ****** calling on insurance prospects to confirm their bookings ) ****** advised that he was hoping for a vehicle to arrive. ******* , the branch manager , gave me an ultimatum of calling the 1800 number or removing myself from the store because she doesnt argue logistics.. ******* advised me that her location mostly caters towards business and insurance rentals , not leisure rentals.. I was advised that the store never if rarely gets compact vehicles, why they would advertise them and then try to upsell me a vehicle at a higher rate with no accommodations . She said she doesnt make the website and that I could remove myself from the store or call the 1800 number. This is typical bait and switch sales tactics being practiced here at this rental company. ( The store advertises the cheaper vehicles upfront but in reality only has vehicles available at a higher rate) If ************************* ( manager associate II ) Is ok sitting in the chair at an extremely unhealthy and uncomfortable weight doing nothing until the last minute whilst not being able to provide an adequate answer for a sound question I can only imagine what the branch managers (Alondra ) brand is due to the typical phone warrior defensive language. Theyre letting 60k a yr get to them
