1 starThis rental car company is criminal they dodge responsibility, gas light, engage in theft and fraud and strong arm people into paying whatever it is they think you owe them regardless of the service they was provided or what they say they will do and then you never see it. They are car rental company who's locations are understaffed and sales pressured to much more add on to people's rentals so they don't disclose information to people and then tell you signed that contract so tough luck which is the way if you want to create more pro less for yourself to go about it to create mo ster and enemies to have a blame finger and to be able to point at anyone who would suggest if you just fixed the issue tmyou would ha e all the lawsuits if you cared about who you served and what they did they would retain Employees which would lead to better customer service and real time help with all issues pertaining to your rental...this company has invested in a lot of poorly integrated tech junk and has no cohesiveness everybody at all the locations have differing versions of hertz policy. I was never ask about adding optional Insurance never given the option to bring my own and told me later when I confronted them about it they were mandatory I said uhhhhh you get commission or sniffs for tacking these on I bet telling people they are mandatory when they aren't to a bunch of uber driver s who are hearing one thing from uber another from Hertz one day and vice versa the next it's a mess and as a driver you can not reasonably ecpected to to be pouring over a contract that is only.consistsnt in that it is different element of fraud this company. Commits depending on location...and yes i am seeking criminal charges, wages lost, pain and suffering...and they might ot mean much to hertz but a class action will and i know of over 400 uber drivers partipiating in that program who would love to join in on this. 400 uber drivers all of them being told that optional insurance is mandatory.Review fromJelani W

1 starThis was the worst experience I have ever had with a car rental company. The key fob completely died on me and left me with no way to get inside the vehicle. I ended up with 3 different vehicle bc of the wireless entry problems. Their theft department keep calling me asking where their truck was even though they are the ones who called the tow truck company, not me. They lost the truck for a week before they found it. I spoke with ~4 supervisor who swore that they knew where the truck was, but when I got to the airport, it was not there, according to the supervisors. I specifically fought with them to give me a receipt for each week that I extended my rental, but there was no price on the receipt. They charged me double for the holiday week because they said it was an inventory problem, so I took it back after 4 days, but they charged me for 8 days. They charged me twice for insurance which ended up over $1100 for the month + my weekly rate for insurance. I asked to speak to a live person who is over the supervisor at the location, only to get a message to fill out a complaint and they will get to me in 8-12 business, it is now over a month and no phone call. They over drafted my account and charged me almost $3500, and I did not even get a discount. Poor customer service and the right hand don't know what the left hand is doing. Poor way to do business. I will never in life rent from them ever again!!!Review fromJudith W

1 starAfter booking and paying for a rental 7 months in advance, we arrived at the airport in Lihue and were told we couldn’t have the car because the credit card number did not match the confirmation agreement. The credit card had been cancelled in January due to fraud. I had the new and active credit card but it was not accepted. Standing in the airport at closing time with 4 children (ages 10 and under) we didn’t have much choice and had to rent another vehicle. We were also told we would have to return the next day (37 minutes away) to make arrangements for the week. When we returned, we were told that it was my fault for not bringing the cancelled credit card and they wouldn’t reimburse for the double rental. The manager, Malia, was called in and she told us it wasn’t her problem and we would have to contact corporate. Corporate has sent me to 3 different places, none of them helpful. I paid for a product that I did not receive and was treated poorly in the process. I would like to be fully reimbursed for the second rental. It was not the way we had hoped to start our family vacation.Review fromTodd S

1 starHERTZ! What a joke of a company!!!!!!! It’s truly sad and pathetic when you are the top tier, Presidents Circle Member and they treat you like you are a common variety street walker. We had a local branch in our city. They never had any cars. They were open less than a year! I put in 10 reservations, got NONE! When I complained, they dropped me from Presidents to the basic member. WHAT A JOKE! I called Corporate 20 times. They said they don’t care. I’m one person. They said if I don’t like it, leave. I did. I am now top tiers with Avis, Enterprise, and National Executive Elite. Hertz is the worse car rental customer service and program in the world. Never have I been treated so poorly and so badly when I was a member of 35 years. Every time someone says they will rent from Hertz, I talk them out of it. The managers and the Corporate members are the worst!! Is it my fault they had a branch with no cars? Is it my fault they said oh make reservations. We will have a car, then that same location gets shut down?? If I could run them out of business, I would do it in a heartbeat, as would many many of you reading this and complaining about this joke of a car rental agency. NO STARS!Review fromMani A

1 starComplaint: Unreliable Vehicle Availability and Poor Customer Service I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service I have repeatedly experienced with Hertz. On multiple occasions, including today, July 1, 2024, I attempted to book a vehicle through the Hertz app. Despite receiving confirmation, when I arrived to pick up the vehicle, I was informed that there were no available cars and that Hertz was completely sold out. This issue has occurred multiple times. Adding to my frustration, the staff on-site displayed a complete lack of concern for the inconvenience caused. They simply shrugged their shoulders and instructed me to call the corporate phone number, stating that there was nothing they could do to assist me. As a Presidents Circle Member and long-time customer who spends thousands of dollars on rentals each year, I am appalled by the lack of responsibility and desire to rectify the situation. The way I and other customers are being treated is unacceptable and needs to be addressed. I hope Hertz will take immediate steps to improve their vehicle availability management and customer service to prevent such issues in the future.Review fromSherri S

1 starWhen I got to the desk in San Diego, they told me $500 will be held on my card, but when I called, they said $200. I was told they NEVER have that low of a price. I said I am on a budget and will have to see what I can cut. She took out the laminated price sheet and tapped it with her pen, and said this is the cost, $500. I then said I need to think a minute. She tapped again and said this is the cost. Then she said I could go and rent from another company! I have NEVER been told that before. Felt she was rude, and EXTREMELY unprofessional.Review fromPatricia L

1 starIf I could give it zero I would. We booked a car for a week in Watertown, NY. I called their local office to confirm an airport pick up, as it was not on airport property. I was told " give us a call on arrival and we will come pick you up.". On arrival we called continually for over 30 minutes! The phone would ring 9 times then go to the 800#. We even tried to get the customer service at Hertz 800# after 20 minutes on hold we hung up. One hour after arrival my son left his job to drive the 30 minutes to come get us. As we waited for him we tried the local Hertz # and they finally picked up. The local agent claimed we never called as his phone never rang and proceeded to say they Did Not offer airport pick up and we should have called a taxi or Uber! We had our son take us to Enterprise.Review fromKathryn E.

1 starWe had a confirmed reservation for a rental car at Hertz outside of Seattle for June 22,2024. We provided a credit card, yet upon arriving at the remote pickup location by Uber (incurring a $38 fare), we found the doors locked and several other customers waiting outside. We were informed that there were no cars available. The single employee at the location was left to convey this unfortunate news to all of us, who were now stranded in an industrial park with no transit options and unsafe pedestrian access. This was more than an inconvenience; it was a potentially dangerous situation. Our plans for the day were completely disrupted. We had traveled from New York to visit family an hour east of Seattle, and our plans to visit family were ruined. What I find most concerning is the lack of communication. We received no notice or indication that there would be no car available. If we had been informed, we would have certainly made other plans. This level of service is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about Hertz's business practices.Review fromRoxie A

1 starI rented a car from them and when I reserved via the online site, I put the pick up location to be in Minneapolis at the airport and drop off location to be the airport in Bismarck North Dakota. My original confirmation confirmed the Pick up and drop off locations. Once I got to the airport and checked in at the Hertz desk, I’m assuming it must’ve got changed by the agent at the desk as I got another confirmation email saying the pick up and drop off locations were both Minneapolis. I’ve called and talked to three people requesting a refund as I was charged $629 for dropping off in the wrong location!!! The first two gals I spoke with told me it would be taken care of and I would get a confirmation email. I never received the confirmation email and I was refunded about $300 which still left me with a charge of $369. After I called back for the third time, they said they will file the complaint to the company and I should get an email in 5 to 7 days with a resolution. Luckily, I can cover those expenses until I get the full refund, if I get the full refund! But there would be overdraft charges for anybody who doesn’t have the extra money in their account to cover the ridiculous charges thinking they were only going to be charged $124.47, which is what my receipt said in my first confirmation email! Furthermore, even though I have the money in my account to cover the overcharge, I shouldn’t have to have $500 tied up for a week for something that was an error on their part! Ugh! I too would give them a zero just like the others in the complaints above, but it’s required to give them at least one.
