1 starWhen did Hertz become a scam? We rented from Hertz on a recent trip and did not buy their fuel refill option, choosing to refill the tank ourselves - which we did, minutes before we returned the car. We were then charged a $100 fuel charge! That's mileage + like $11 per gallon. And we returned it with MORE gas than it had when we started. But that's the beginning of it because then there is no way to get to a human being. I turned in a complaint form and never heard back from them. There was no way to attach my fuel receipt on the original complaint form. I tried getting to a person, got re-routed, and put on hold for over 30 minutes. Wish I had seen these low reviews before I rented from them. Honestly they should be put out of business.Review fromMarion Y

1 starHorrible customer service. I have paid for my lost and found return to be mailed back to me over a month ago, have a fed ex tracking number and fed ex has tried to pick up the return several times with no luck. Fed Ex tracking number I have and FED EX has tried contacting you as well with no luck. Hertz found item number I have and still have not received my item but you have already charged my credit card on June 19th 2024. Why have I not received my item!!!!!!I have emailed eight customer service contacts, a General manager and Regional Manager with no response. I have called 6 different phone numbers, left several messages with no return phone calls, I have been on hold over 5 hours of my time and still have not received any return calls. I have been to the Richmond airport 3 times and doors are locked and the Manager of the lost and found is never available. What is going on!!!! Where is my binder that I paid to have Fed Ex back to me on June 19th 2024!!!! The reason why my binder was left in my rental car is because I returned car early because the check engine light kept coming on and the a/c was blowing warm air with 104 temperatures and my 89 year old mother was not able to tolerate any longer. I was trying to explain to the Hertz attendant at the airport getting out my receipt out of binder , soaking wet from sweating so much, and then she said she did not need receipt, I just grabbed my backpack and left binder on seat. Total nightmare renting a car from Hertz!!!!!!Review fromYuridiana T

1 starHorrible customer service. I was on hold for an hour, finally got transferred to a customer service rep. She was useless couldn’t answer one question and refused to transfer me to a supervisor. She finally hung up on me after telling me she was not transferring me to anyone else. She continued to say she is answering my question no need to be transferred. I was inquiring about a discount provided through T-Mobile and said she had no idea what that was.Review fromElizabeth B

1 starMy mother rented a car from Hertz at the *************************************. She had purchesed insurance from a separate company to cover her rental car. When she showed up to the counter, after being flown to an airport other than her original destination and having to make her way to this airport afer many, many hours of travel delays, the person checking her out at the counter asked "Do you have the insurance." She answered "yes," becuase she had already purchased insurance. She signed the paperwork for nearly $1,000 thinking this was for the rental of the car itself. She didn't realize that my brother had pre-paid for the rental. This charge was for INSURANCE. She already had insurance and didn't need further insurance. When we realized the problem, we contacted Hertz. After a month of back-and-forth, they are only willing to refund part of the amount. Additionally, I have reached out to them numerous times to make arrangements for this refund, and they refuse to respond to my emails and call.Review fromStephanie B

1 starI’d give them NEGATIVE STARS IF I COULD!!!! Hertz is the WORST RENTAL CAR COMPANY IVE EVER SEEN!!! I rented a car that they didn’t have. Was charged $50.00 More than what I paid on line for fees and whatever that I already paid for. Then they replaced it with a car that was smaller than what I needed- then charged me a fee for it- then the car wasn’t in the right parking spot location!!! THEN- the car was only 65% full of gas. I returned it 24hrs later on 75% full and did as instructed by the man checking cars in -and he documented that the car was only 25% full - AND I WAS CHARGED 10.99 a gallon for a total of over $94.00! I’ve done all the steps I was instructed to do online and no one has called me back except the rude guy from the gas conflict department yelling at me to turn in my receipts. I asked the man if there was someone else I could talk to like a supervisor or another person for the other issues I was having and he says No-NO- just email the receipts right now! I’ve never in my life been treated so poorly from a company! I thought hertz was gonna be top of the line and they are less than bad. All I wanted was my issues resolved and I’ve gotten NOWHERE!!! I’ve even put in multiple requests online and I’ve yet to hear from anyone person other than an email I got that basically says SORRY ABOUT YOUR LUCK BUT WE STRIVE FOR PERFECTION IN THE FUTURE?!!! H******* h******* h*******!!!! NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!! I’ll hitchhike before I rent or give them anymore of my business!!!!Review fromChristianna S

1 starHertz rental . . . choose another rental company.I used Citi Double Reward points for my Hertz car rental reservation, $44.03 due at time of pick up for fees. When I arrived to pick up my car, the cost was so much more. I did add insurance and was willing to pay that fee which should have brought my rental to ~$125 but was charged for more items that brought the estimated charge to $176.02. Frustrating. After returning home and checking my bank account, my credit card was charged $304.15. I was charge for the full rental (my points NOT applied) and charged for gas because it was not returned with a full tank. I didn't have a full tank when I picked it up! Per emails with Hertz (no calls), they are refusing a refund me because my card was given at the counter as pre-pay and there's nothing, they can do about it. SERIOUSLY? There's always something they can do. They have taken advantage of a customer and someone's money. Shame on them and their reputation. Pre-Rental Vehicle Inspection Form was reviewed with attendant and signed off on upon leaving the lot. Yes, all paperwork was submitted to Hertz and they are refusing to take responsibility.1. Gas tank level 3/8 tank of gas; returned with 1/2 tank of gas 2. Rental car was extremely dirty inside and out. It had not been vacuumed, washed and trash inside car.3. Passenger side mirror did not work.I would like Hertz to be held accountable. And I would like my money back.Angry and out a lot of money.Review fromDwayne W

1 starThis company needs to be investigated for price gouging. Our Delta flight was cancelled during the IT outage, leaving us stranded and needing to get home that day due to medical issues, and they charged us $684 to rent a vehicle for ONE DAY! The lady we worked with was understanding and said we may want to check elsewhere, and that she had no control over the pricing that came up. But this is evidence to me that the company was taking advantage of consumers during a crisis and taking the power away from agents to override ridiculous pricing. Under no circumstances should a Chevy Traverse cost that much to rent for 1 day.Review fromJustice J

1 starHertz roadside assistance service is absolutely terrible at customer service, and billing management. June 27th 2024 I requested Hertz roadside for assistance with the rental, for a flat tire. I notified the representative that there was a spare tire in the trunk. The representative then asked for the rental record number, I provided the information and asked how much is the fee for roadside. The representative replied and said it’ll be $97.98 after tax it’ll actually cost $112.50. She also notified me that it’ll take 30 minutes to an hour for roadside. On my phone I looked on Google maps for a repair shop within reasonable distance. I noticed Ace Auto Parts was fairly close by and open for service. Immediately within 5 minutes after requesting roadside with Hertz I cancelled service. I asked the representative would I receive the roadside payment fee on my account even after cancellation. She then confirmed I wouldn’t receive the roadside payment fee. She then followed by saying I canceled at an appropriate time, the request haven’t been assigned to a trucker yet. I then notified the representative I was getting the car serviced at Ace Auto Parts and I’ll save all receipts. I then told her after the car is serviced, I’ll take it back to the rental location for approval to continue driving the vehicle. I did exactly just that. Everything seemed to be fine, until the following week. July 1st I receive a email from Hertz in correlation to the roadside payment fee, $112.50. As I further read it details that the payment is due July 8th. I then returned to the rental location in total confusion as to why is my debit account being compromised. I expressed my concerns and how I had confirmation for not one but two supervisors that I wouldn’t receive a fee. Especially seeing as how services was never rendered by Hertz roadside. I personally paid for the rental car service else where, Ace Auto. Now I’m not able to reserve a rental until the $112.50 is resolved on portal.Review fromCristiano F

1 starThis happened at PBI Hertz rental car. Friday July 26th 2024 1:50PM. Once again, 3h waiting to pick up a car previously booked. But this time after I mentioned that this has been a recurrent problem, despite the costumer be obligated to choose time for pick up, the representative answer was: and you keep coming back.it is so disrespectful that becomes funny, since she not only gave that answer but looked very proud of it, while chomping on her bag of chips. I guess since theres no punishment for the companys repetitive improper behavior, their representatives dont care about the service provide without understanding that without customers, there will be no business and without businesses, no jobs. No surprise why Hertz filed for bankruptcy a few years ago.Review fromLane P

1 star0 stars. Do NOT use Hertz. I paid slightly extra for a larger car. When we got there they did not have the car that I paid for. They could not tell me how long I would have to wait, even though the rental was supposed to start an hour before. We finally just picked a smaller car and left because we did not want to wait forever. They did not give me a discount for this at all. We got a flat tire and replaced it with the spare ourselves because roadside assistance took over 2 hours. Then they charge me an additional $100 to fix the flat tire. I could have fixed it myself for a fraction of that or any tire shop could have fixed it for a fraction of that.
