1 starAARP's purpose is to funnel money to a political partyAARP
Date: 11/20/2023
Dear Mr. F*******,
AARP is strictly a nonpartisan organization. We have no Political Action Committee (PAC) and we do not endorse or oppose any candidates for public office or make contributions to either political campaigns or candidates at any level of government. Neither AARP nor any of our officers, volunteers, or members speaking for the Association may endorse, oppose, or contribute financially to a candidate for public office or a specific political party.
Sincerely,
Bruce

1 starAARP is not worth the money you spend or the irritation you endure.
I do not approve of my membership dues being used to lobby politicians or to be a donation to their campaigns.
I’ve found that any discounts being offered by AARP can be received just by asking the business if they offer a seniors discount.
I joined for one year and refused to renew my membership, yet I still get emails, phone calls and enough letters in the mail to wallpaper my living room.
Even their commercials tell you they probably have business practices you don’t agree with.AARP

Dear Mr. G*******,
Thank you for your comments.

AARP provides members the opportunity to control their communications with the association. On your behalf, I have added the phone number on your membership profile to our Do Not Call list and have suppressed your name and address from receiving mailings from AARP and our affiliated service providers. As some mailings are prepared ahead of their distribution date, this request may take up to 12 weeks to process. We thank you for your understanding and patience.
Sincerely,
Bruce

1 starI made a mistake signing up with them, that was the biggest mistake I have ever done. They sold my phone number and I am getting phone calls from like 30 a day people trying to sell me senior care services. I am so sick of them. I don’t know how to report them as a scam. if I could give them negative number as a review, I would do so. I am very disturbed.AARP

Dear Ms. B***********,
Thank you for your active AARP membership. These calls appear to be spam phone calls.
I have placed the phone number we have on file for you on our Do Not Call list. You can do the same on the Federal Do Not Call List.
I will be emailing you some additional information privately. We appreciate your membership and wish you a happy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Bruce

1 starThis is the 2nd year I've tried to cancel. I notified them and my Pay account last year and they let them do it again this year. Don't ever set them up with your account information. I'm going to the bank and take care of this one way or the other.AARP

Dear Ms. G****,
Thank you for your 15 years as an active AARP member. I see that your AARP membership had been on "auto-renew" since November 2019. I also see that the Auto-Renew feature was cancelled when you called us on November 1. Additionally, AARP notifies those on Auto-Renew 40 days in advance of any charge to give members notice and the option to opt-out of the feature.
We apologize for any inconvenience or misunderstanding and thank you for your past and continued support.
Sincerely,
Bruce

1 starAARP has a bad habit of charging it yearly $16.00 membership fee without reminding members. The One thing one can count on from this business is them charing that annual fee; a coutesey reminder is out of the question. Seem any one can pay them a fee to get AARP to endorse them like that Oak Street Health care system that is suppose to be so great that none are in my state yet nor any other neighboring but commercials keep being shown.AARP

Dear Mr. G*******,
Thank you for your 21 years as an active AARP member. Your membership account shows that you have taken advantage of the Auto-Renew feature since 2020. I will email you separately with some additional information on this as well as on your question about Oak Street Health.
AARP notifies members by email or by USPS (if there is not an active email account linked to your membership) 40 days prior to any renewal charges, providing members the opportunity to prepare for the charge or to decide to opt-out.
We hope this information is helpful and thank you for your past and continued support.
Sincerely,
Bruce

Hello Mr. G*******,
I am sorry to hear there are no Oak Street Health locations in your area, I know this can be frustrating. Oak Street Health is continuing to expand to many different areas which is why commercials are being shown. If you'd like additional information or further review into your area; Oak Street Health can be reached at ************. Sincerely, Brittany S. Member Relations

1 starAlmost every other large corporation allows you to request removal of your name from mailing lists by email or snail mail (yeah, DMA opt out is a joke). AARP is the only one (I've spent most of this weekend making about 30 requests) that requires you to call during business hours (hey idiots, I am still working, so I don't need ya and don't have the time) to request to be taken offAARP

Dear Mr. A******,
AARP provides members and others the opportunity to control their communication preferences. I am emailing separately about your comments and concerns.

1 starIf you ever want to unsubscribe, be prepared for a hassle. They do not put the option to remove 'auto renew' on your website portal (or your credit card information so you can delete it). When I tried to cancel via chat online, I was told I could not cancel as my spouse was listed as primary. My spouse is in his 90's, almost deaf, and not computer literate. I called several days later to cancel, ensuring my spouse was nearby. We got the membership cancelled but it is way too much of a hassle. We have never had to show an AARP card to get a senior discount, and all the other "services" are easily accessible by other means. Belonging to an organization that is nothing but a proxy for the liberal left is not what this group should be about. It does not speak for the vast majority of senior citizens. It wrongly asserts itself as non-partisan and has way too much say in the political landscape.Review fromTerrell H

1 starI’ve asked AARP to delete my account of my personal information twice and they are refusing! Their customer service is terrible and the rewards are useless to us.
I work overnight and they want me to call between hours that I sleep for work. I sent email cancellation request to CEO J J****** and was responded to by someone telling me absolutely nothing.
AARP IS A SCAM FOR SENIORS!!!
I’m baffled that I didn’t talk to someone to sign up for AARP but you’re requiring that I speak to someone to delete it.

1 starI've volunteered to tutor K-3 students. I've communicated with AARP twice. I've heard nothing. Last year, I emailed them numerous times re my elderly mother's account. I heard nothing. I had to call them instead, so I finally got through. What's ironic is that they want us to sign a petition re Social Security offices; it takes almost 37 minutes to get through to a caseworker. This is true, but AARP rarely responds to emails. They need to petition themselves for incompetency!AARP

1 starI called AARP today because I had a charge on my bank account of $16.00..which left my account in the negative, so, I called and spoke with a representative by the name of Bobbie and was given information that I was unhappy, so, Iasked to speak with a supervisor, meanwhile Julia place me on hold 2 times being very annoyed in her voice, then Julia answered the phone, and again, didn't meet my expectations of of excellent customer service, I then requested my membership to be cancel after 20 + years with a refund of the $16.00..finally I called the AARP fraud hotline..and then surprisingly Dennis and Allision handled my concerns and complaints accordingly..AARP Case Managers need to monitor the daily operations of representatives on a daily basis, and re- train the on the phone representatives to be professional, kind, respectful and patient..because all that occurred today has caused me to cancel my membership and refund my $16.00..and to anyone who is contemplating signing up to ask questions in the fullest, and never take for granted that you're getting good customers service, and ask for further explanations, and give a clear meaning of your concerns.
