      They make you sign up for a service plan to activate unit. Nothing in the box says you have to pay for activation.

      Terrible customer service experience. ********************** preys on individuals who may not be as technologically savvy. Recently, a family member purchased a Wi-Fi extender and mistakenly tried to connect it using the wrong link. Instead of simply pointing out the error, Netgear's customer service representative attempted to charge them a whopping $200 for a supposed security package. Luckily, they reached out to me for help, and I was able to guide them through the correct setup process. It's highly likely that many others have fallen victim to these inflated charges, as the pricing seems arbitrary at best. It's truly ironic that a company once known for well-designed products is now engaging in such deceptive practices. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend purchasing from Netgear or entrusting them with my family's and business's needs.

      I first want to start off and say Im not sure how Netgear processes their refund, but Im sure theres something underlying that Im not able to see. On June 8 I received an email stating the following Dear ********,Your return has been processed. The amount shown below has been applied back to your original form of payment. Your bank may require 2-5 days to reflect this transaction. these 2 to 5 days seem to look like calendar days since it doesnt say business days it is now June 28 and after various phone calls, I still have not received my refund and always get an excuse when I call I find it odd that if I call in the mornings, its always the same person as if a company this big has one employee that handles the return processing. I was given the case number which doesnt do anything because one of the excuses is Ill email my supervisor the last call I made and will be my last one because the refund process that they said in order to need to take place is that a form will be emailed to me in which I would have to put in my case number and my bank information. Are your employees floating money and your company is not aware. I tried calling corporate of course couldnt get anybody on the phone had to leave a voicemail and I thought Ill get a return answer my question is where is my money and how is it a system error that my refund couldnt be processed when I got an email stating it was successful. Were talking about almost $300 and all I get is a bunch of BS. Order #*******)

      App did not work to do initial setup and spent 2 hours on phone with support who admitted app *****. 3 months in router stopped working and after 2.5 hours on phone with support they deemed it defective. Instead of shipping me a replacement immediately I was told to send it back, they would inspect it and offer me a replacement or the opportunity to add $$ and upgrade. In the meantime I was expected go without internet. Needless to say I told them to f-off and purchased ****** nest which took 10 minutes to set up and has been great.

      Netgear has the worst customer support team ever! After over seven hours on the phone and trying to make things work, they could not come up with a working solution. This was with their ORBI 860 wireless router.

      Wish I could leave negative stars. I purchased the wrong subscription and asked to cancel it within the first 30 days (company states full refund within first 30). Emailed them 5 times regarding cancellation and never heard back ever. Complete scam!!! This company should be banned

      NetGear is a COMPLETE scam. Never have I needed to pay for a subscription service for a wifi router to work. **************** is a joke and they are taking people for there money. What a joke. Hopefully they get shut down and prosecuted for ripping people off.

      I wish I read these reviews before purchasing. What every single person on here is saying is the exact truth! Netgear is criminal. I would have never purchased my product (modem). They are out to scam and rip off consumers. They should be investigated and fined heavily and put out of business!!!

      Netgear is the WORST ever. DO NOT BUY, if I could return I would. TERRRIBLE customer service, ***** based-couldnt understand him at all and he was extremely rude. They tried to charge me between $100 and $300 for help over the phone!!!! Said it was my only option, total scam!!!! For the record a master reset simply using a paper clip, on the back of the device did the trick. What highway robbery. So disgusted. STAY AWAY FRON NETGEAR! 10/10 DO NIT RECOMMEND Overpriced Junk. I paid $450 for something that couldve come out of a gum ball machine. Best Buy said it was the best. BEST LIE.

      Agree with *** - worst customer service and support ever! Was "disconnected" twice and wanted to speak to someone to help me resolve the overall issue. Warning to any potential buyer of a wifi device - far too many great companies out there to give Netgear your business, unless you enjoy aggravation. Purchased a Nighthawk router on 2/23/23 and it dropped wifi intermittently until it was so frequent that it needed to be replaced on 5/11/23. My wife and I are both remote, and needed something immediately. Bought a TP product and have been thrilled since, Went to return the Netgear product to Best Buy where it was purchased, however their return policy is only 15 days. They recommended that I contact Netgear directly, but even they warned of their service. I called Netgear, and the gentleman told me that I was outside of their return policy, even though the warranty ON THE *** says 90 days. He told me that I could have a new one shipped to me, but that the new one would have to be diagnosed by them on the phone, I told them that it could not be, as the new router is hooked up and all products in the house are connected, and puttling that one on to "check" was too difficult, and that I did not want their lousy product. Hung up on...Called back and got someone else, and he said Support could send me a label to exchange, but when I finally spoke to someone there, he asked to run diagnostics again, and I told him it was not happening. Hung up on again. Called back and left a message, returning their call when I put the complaint on ******** and have YET to hear back from anyone. Have never filed anything with the BBB before, but this company certainly deserves it! NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM NETGEAR!!!!
