In May 2025, I was charged $20/month for a ChatGPT Plus subscription. This included access to GPT-4o, advanced tools, and voice mode. Despite confirmation of an active subscription and a renewal date of July 24, 2025, I was denied access to all paid features.I opened multiple support tickets, submitted screenshots, and followed every troubleshooting request. Support eventually claimed the issue was resolved. It wasnt. The lockout persisted for two full billing cycles$40 in charges for unusable service.What did the business commit to? Full, unrestricted access to their premium features. What did they deliver? I am submitting this complaint regarding OpenAIs refusal to issue a full refund for nine months of duplicate billing for their ChatGPT Plus service.I inadvertently maintained two active OpenAI subscriptions under separate accounts:Originally, I opened Account #1 on error intending to use the email of account #2. As my days become very busy, while running a business, I did not notice the double accounts, until I was auditing my bank accounts for a separate issue. When I noticed that between October 2024 and June 2025, I was double-billed $20/month on both accounts, totaling $180 in overcharges. I only actively used one account during that time and did not realize the first subscription was still being ************** response, OpenAI acknowledged the error but refused to refund more than the most recent charge, citing their internal refund policy. I requested escalation to corporate and expressed my concern over the unfairness of only reimbursing one month out of nine. I provided proof of the double billing, and the above explanation.Despite good faith communication and prompt corrective action on my end, OpenAI has offered only a $20 refund, keeping the remainder of the charges. Their position is unreasonable, especially considering that this was a non-malicious, easily verifiable billing mistake involving two accounts under the same name and address. I am a paying ChatGPT Plus subscriber. My account is registered under ******************************* which was auto-generated by *****. I do not have access to that Gmail address.I have been contacting OpenAI Support through my current and working email *************************** for over a month. I have sent more than 100 messages and only received automated bot replies. No human support agent has contacted **** am not asking for a refund. I simply want access to the features I am paying for especially Voice Mode which has never worked.I have followed all troubleshooting steps and updated the app. This is not a technical issue anymore it is a customer service failure. Dear Aspen,
I would like to add more important information to my complaint regarding OpenAI and my ChatGPT Plus subscription.
I originally subscribed to ChatGPT Plus through the Apple App Store using my Apple ID and a UK bank card via Apple Pay. However, the email address connected to my ChatGPT Plus account is a random Gmail ******************************** that was automatically created by Apples Hide My Email feature. I do not have access to that Gmail address and never have.
I have been trying to get support from OpenAI for more than two months. I contacted them through the app and via ********************************** using my correct email **************************** I clearly explained that I never had access to the Gmail address and asked OpenAI to help me either:
- Transfer my subscription to my real email address, or
- Give me access to the features I am paying for.
Unfortunately, OpenAI has not helped. They only send automated replies and say they cannot change the email. ***** also confirmed that only OpenAI can change the subscription email and give me access.
As a paying user, I still have no access to key features such as Voice Mode, web browsing, or notifications. I am stuck in this subscription with no real support. OpenAIs system says I have GPT-4, but these features never work. I followed all suggested steps including updating the app, reinstalling, and checking settings nothing changed. I even tried a different device.
OpenAI Support also told me that if I reinstall the app or use a new Apple ID, I will lose all saved history and settings. This is unacceptable for me, as I have been using ChatGPT daily for three months and cannot afford to lose my content and conversations.
This situation is extremely frustrating and unfair. I am not asking for a refund I only ask to access what I paid for or have the subscription moved to my real email.
Please help me get a real response from OpenAI and resolve this issue properly. I am attaching this message to my original complaint (ID *********.

I believe OpenAI has engaged in unfair and potentially fraudulent business practices in relation to my paid subscription. The details of the situation are as follows:1. Lack of Clear Refund or Expiration Policy Disclosure at Time of Payment I subscribed to OpenAI's service in November 2023. At the time, there was no clear indication in the user agreement or payment interface that the service was non-refundable or only valid for one year. No prominent warnings or consent notices were presented.2. I set up an account with ********************** for ChatGPT. My email address changed and I no longer have access to the email address associated with my account. The email address associated with the subscription is **************************** I was charged for ChatGPT on May 5th. On May 12th I notified OpenAI support that I was unable to log in and needed help cancelling the recurring charges and refunded for the account I can no longer access. The bot instructed me to login to my account, which I was unable to do because the verification code was sent to an email address that was closed. I notified OpenAI again on May 14th, that I can not login to cancel the subscription. They stopped responding and charged my card again on June 5th. I have attached screenshots of the communication and charges. I need to be refunded for the amount I was charged $43.56 and for the recurring subscription to be cancelled and my card information removed from their system.Initial Complaint

I subscribed to OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus (GPT-4) to develop a musical album, including lyrics, song structure, artwork prompts, and a professionally formatted booklet in PDF. Over several months, I documented my entire creative process using the platform. However, when the final export was generated, the files (including a 26-page booklet PDF) appeared empty or 0 KB, resulting in a complete loss of my artistic material.The support team responded saying that ******* is not capable of generating or delivering downloadable files, which contradicts the user experience I had. The platform displayed generated files and download buttons multiple times, misleading me into thinking files were actually being saved.This failure caused not only financial loss (due to months of subscription and external production work) but significant emotional and professional damage, as the final product was meant for release and promotion.Despite my detailed formal complaint, I was only offered a technical explanation, with no real resolution or compensation.Transaction began in early 2024 and the issue persisted until June 2025.I reside in ********* but am reporting a U.S.-based digital service.
