I attempted to use their service to look up a phone number that had called me. The process involved going to their website, pasting the number into a search bar. This then came up appearing to say that they had found the number and information available for it....hidden behind a pay wall. Once I agreed to pay and provided my cc#, it came up that no such information was available. This is a highly misleading website. I contacted customer support requesting a refund and they replied by email saying that no refund would be given.Business Response

On approximately April 5, 2025, I signed up for a PeopleFinders trial at $3.95 for 3 days. I was not aware that this would automatically enroll me in a recurring membership at $29.95 per month, and I did not receive any notice of a subscription or renewal reminders. I did not use the service after the trial. Starting in April 2025, PeopleFinders charged my card $29.95 each month ******* **** June, July, August, September, and there is a pending charge for October) without my knowledge or authorization. I discovered the charges in October 2025 and immediately contacted PeopleFinders to cancel and request a refund. Customer support canceled the membership but refused to refund any of the unauthorized charges, citing their terms. I consider these recurring charges to be unauthorized and predatory. I am seeking a full refund of the six posted $29.95 monthly charges ($179.70) and to have the pending October charge reversed. I have not used the service and believe the company violated fair billing practices. Documentation of the charges and my correspondence is available.Business Response

On 7/27/22025 I paid for 2 one time services from peoplefinders.com one charge for $3.95 and one for $0.50. I made sure not to choice any recurring services and prior to logging off the website. I had no active membership. I recently checked my credit card statements and have been charged by **************** for $29.95 on 7/30/25, 8/30/25, and 9/30/25.I logged on and contacted **************** to cancel any memberships. I never signed up for a membership. Other customers have had the same issues. Secondly I attempted to remover my credit card info from the website. The website did not allow me to remove my credit card information. I had to contact my credit card company to change my credit card number so this merchant would no longer be able to bill me for a service I never signed up for or approved. I never received an email or a contact about starting a membership with ****************. I only received an email from them about my onetime purchase.The only acceptable resolution to this issue is a full refund.Thank you.Business Response

Thank you for following up on my complaint regarding PeopleFinders. While they responded with a method for removing my personal information, I find their approach to be unreasonable and coercive.
PeopleFinders is requiring me to visit their website and agree to their privacy policy in order to opt out or request deletion of my personal data. I do not consent to their privacy policy, and I believe it is unfair and deceptive to force consumers to accept such terms just to exercise basic privacy rights granted under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and other state laws.
My request is simple:
I am asking PeopleFinders to remove all of my personal information from their website and database within 24 hours, without requiring me to submit to their privacy policy or use their online forms.
This tactic of requiring users to accept terms in order to opt out of data sales and public exposure is not in line with the spirit of consumer privacy protections. I am also considering filing a complaint with the *** and my state attorney general if this issue is not resolved promptly.
I would appreciate the BBBs continued assistance in ensuring PeopleFinders honors my request without unnecessary or manipulative conditions.

On September 18, 2025, I subscribed to Peoplefinders for a trial offer. I subscribed via ******. As advertised, I would be charged $3.95 for this offer. According to the site, I had up to 3 days to cancel the trial option. I utilized the site for 1 search and attempted to cancel immediately after completing my search. My mouse rolled over the incorrect button on the site and I was immediately subscribed to their lifetime membership at a cost of $69.95. The site did not confirm that I chose to opt into a subscription. I was simply immediately enrolled. Also, the site does not contain any option to cancel the lifetime membership online. I sent an email to Peoplefinders on September 19, 2025 (within the 3 day trial period), requesting that they cancel this membership and refund the $69.95 deducted from my account. Upon receiving my email, I received a response, almost immediately, that states there was no record of my email. I have attached the response from Peoplefinders, as well as proof of my email to this email.Since these events occurred, I have filed a complaint with ******; however, I have not received any sort of conditional payment. I have not utilized the site for other searches. I am still within my 3-day trial period. I would like to be refunded $69.95 and I would also like to discontinue the lifetime subscription. I was doing an online search of a ****** and peoplefinders.com came up and offered to provide a specific piece of information (marriage verification) and this is exactly what I was looking for. I clicked on okay to check the information and it was not available. I immediately cancelled the service because I could not find what they offered me to have. I called and requested a refund and the man started arguing with me and told me he is not going to refund me. He said I was not searching correctly. He hung up on me when I asked for a customer service manager.
