I signed up in order to ger a criminal background. What was provided was one old charge from years ago. Signed up for the 3 day trial. Got the info I needed and cancelled right away. The screen said updating account for more than 5 min. I waited over 10-20?min and then had things to do. After seeing a charge on my debit cards account I wanted a refund for being charged when I had canceled the same day. Then customer service person was rude and condescending, his manager was even more rude and hung up before call was done. They put me on an automatic $29.95 a month program, even if you sign up for a one time only usage. Information tends to be incorrect. I spoke with ***** ****** via email about getting a refund issued and he says its non-refundable. I own a company myself and have friends in the **** space. This was an online one time purchase of $3.95 for a people search. An additional charge of $29.95 was charged. I called them and after a lot of question(sounded like an Al interview), I cancelled the account with a promise of a refund. 8/22/25 I used PeopleFinders site and assumed it would give me the price at the end. It gave a monthly option for $28.99, I saw no prices given ahead of time. I wasn't about to pay ***** for a one time search, and didn't need it after that one search, so closed out of the window. 3 minutes I get a ****** email notification of a $3.95 charge!! I never put in any payment method! how did they get my papal account and charge with no authorization? They refuse to refund, and say it was in the small writing that I authorized this. I am rejecting this response because: I want an admission that you first denied my request for a refund. I want an apology. I filed this BBB report after you refused a refund, then called ****** who refunded. I want anyone looking at this to know it wasn't you who refunded it, and re-iterate that you took the payment without my permission, and could have cared less that I wanted a refund. I cancelled immediately and received an email confirmation stating cancellation was accepted and I would not be charged. That was in June. A simple web search of robocaller will net you PEOPLEFINDERS.COM link in your search results. The web page is presented as if and "official whitepages" reverse lookup. You enter details of the offending number and they withhold report until a purchase option is selected. They present TWO options, one is a one time fee of $0.95, and the other a monthly subscription (at a low cost of entry, to be raised to $24.95 a month after an introductory period). If you take the one time fee option, this company will open a secret "3 day free-trial" for you, without authorization. They then proceed to bill your payment method for the lesser charge, but WITHOUT a clear path to cancel any recurring charge. They turnaround with the secret $24.95 charge quickly (less than 72 hours) so that the TARGET doesn't have any meaningful time to react before it clears. They are playing the odds that the customer will not notice the charge until much, much later, after which the real DAMAGE has been done. This company intentionally withholds the subscription details from regular consumer communication channels (email purchase receipts, SMS texts) and there is no record of purchase (EXCEPT the charge on your bank statement). There also is no account setup process, you have no way of stopping these charges unless you, through another web search and an ADDITIONAL scammy PHISHING attempt to get you to sign up AGAIN, using funnel sites to force you to CHOOSE a subscription before you have access to the main site for customer support....Then you have an impersonal customer email dialog where they have the "CANCEL RECURRING CHARGES" as the number ONE complaint item in the dropdown. WOW. If you call the customer support number, there is no clear path to resolution unless you choose an unrelated dial option and try to get a IRL person. I believe they are deceptive. I didn't sign up for a recurring service but that is what occurred. Then, when I went to cancel the service, they have one of these pop-*** that looks like it is the button to cancel but actually signs you up for additional services. I accidentally clicked it. I called in to try to get the charges reversed but their AI menu took me in circles and wouldn't send me to an actual person (even though it said it would multiple times). I am rejecting this response because: They are misrepresenting the timeline. I called in twice. I called in at 9:57am (on August 12th) which lasted 3 minutes and 22 seconds and again at 11:21am which lasted 9 minutes and 36 seconds (screenshots from ****** voice and my phone attached). Despite putting in my information to talk to a representative, I was never connected to anyone. I then emailed them (the FULL transcript is attached as "Gmail - People Finder Cancellation.pdf"). I clearly asked that the subscription charge and the perpetual subscription (which technically isn't a subscription because it is a one-time fee) be removed. Despite having just charged me for both, their only response was, "You do not currently have an active subscription." Due to the lackluster response and this being the 3rd failed attempt at a resolution, I opened a complaint with ******, whom I had made the purchase through. Not only do they employ deceptive tactics (e.g. never emailing you to confirm you signed up for a subscription, cleverly concealing that you are signing up for a subscription in the first place, and putting the "sign up for a perpetual subscription instead of cancelling" link in the same place you would normally expect to confirm your cancellation) but they have also failed to include all the details of the case which would make them look bad. Despite ****** rejecting the claim, because of their responses, they claimed that they were unable to process a refund because I had asked ****** for a refund which is not accurate.

I am rejecting this response because:
This response has some accuracy but some of it is not correct. My account has been permanently closed, that is true. They have also stated that they cannot give a refund because there is often a conditional refund given by the bank. This is not accurate. They have stated in the email attached that it is against their policy to provide refunds. So, they are saying that they are not able to give a refund because of my dispute but that seems to be merely a delay tactic to get me to give up trying because they are so difficult to work with. When in the process of cancelling a recurring charge that I don't remember signing up for, I was clicking through the screens that essentially said, "Yes, I really do want to cancel." One of these screens had a button to sign up for a perpetual license instead of cancelling and I accidentally clicked it. Ask the company, I have never received/utilized any services/product from this purchase. I contacted them immediately to get help. I made two calls to their support number which is run by some AI which never actually connected me with a representative like it said it would. I then emailed in and they responded with delay tactics and didn't actually answer my questions. So I filed a complaint. I have attached the full email conversation with them so you can see what I am saying is true and accurate. They profess to have their hands tied by the very complaints that are in progress while knowing that they will never give a refund due to their policy. This is a simple example of a misclick during checkout and a company essentially saying, "Too bad."
