This morning I received a text message from Mac. I'm curious why the debt collection agency is charging $4942.30. I have never been in debt and I had just moved to Canada from Hong Kong to recuperate. I suffer from depression and heart disease. This is about MAC FINANCIAL who has sent me two letters, the last of which was dated oct 19/2023, threatening to take legal action and put a lien on my property for a debt that would be well over the statute of limitations in Nova Scotia. The statute is 2 years, and this debt would have to be over 20 years old.
Mac is saying that I owe $11,151.14 on a delinquent ******** **** account, but I have spoken to my bank about this and according to them, there is no record of this debt when they look into my history.
Mac has also been calling me repeatedly on a cell phone provided by my employer for work purposes only, as well as on my personal cell phone, neither of which I gave permission for them to use.
Hopefully you can have this harassment stopped.

During covid I lost my job, got diagnosed with cancer and got into a car accident . I had a ******** **** credit card owing $300 it went to collections , I was able to obtain another credit card 2 years later with ******** **** . I made an enquiry on my credit bureau and since then over a year I’ve been constantly ******** by Mac Financial , via email, letters in the mail and phone calls . I’m currently on disability going through my 3rd fight with cancer , i was only working part time at *********** because on disability you can work a few hours and I had to to make ends meet . Now Mac company is ********* my former place of work by calling them, sending them letter telling them I owe money that’s in collections but have to legal withstanding way to collect from my employer . **** *********** ***** **** ********** *** ********** *** * ****** ** ***** ******. The gentleman now and a security d person called Kristin C. is ********* me , my former employer , and causing me sever emotional and physical anxiety and stress . today my daughter went to the police station to file a complaint, the police officer asked us to try the BBB to see if we can ask this company to stop the **********, if no resolution can be met we can file a no contact order , and charges . **** **** **** ******* *** ******* ** **** **** ***** ****** **** ** ** ****. I would like the owner to contact me to see the emails, letter and listen to phone calls their employers are making. I had an account that went into collection due to some bad choices I made while I was 19, I was contacted by Mac Financial in 2020 and I paid off the debt that was owed. Fast forward to 2023, Mac Financial, employee name Mark who I dealt with in 2020, reopen up the collection account that was 100% paid off and it appeared on once again in my credit report as unpaid, which took a huge hit affecting my credit on ******* and ***** ***** that I have been working very hard towards fixing, as I work towards my career as an industrial Electrician. They corrected what they claim was an "error" but never removed the item that was in collection (I now have two separate report on the same collection items in my credit history.) The first delinquency date for the original debt was in 2018 and now they have updated the report first delinquency to "2023" resetting my timeline for the report history removal. Not only does this seem like a scam to get more money out of a debt that was 100% paid but also seem ******* to reopen a debt that was paid. This report (original) was supposed to be removed by 2025 and now that they have updated the account with false information, I won't be able to remove this till 2029. ******* is currently investigating the matter as they are confused as well, my last resort would be to hire a Lawyer to fight this company ******* if *******, ********** and The BBB fail to assist me in this matter. Let me make it clear one last time, this debt is 100% paid off and I have the release letter from them but they have updated the credit report with false and incorrect information which contradicts the release letter they sent me. I have ******** pictures of *******, which shows when the account when into collection and paid off, and when they re-updated ******* with the same account in collection, also a copy of the release letter.Business Response

We spoke to the consumer yesterday at length regarding this
issue. The consumer insisted that we
remove the collection item from his credit report. We informed him that we were not permitted to
remove accounts from credit reports. Now
we are receiving this complaint.
Nothing has been ‘re-opened’ since we purchased this account
in 2020. The debt has been reporting to
the credit bureaus since we purchased it. It seems that the consumer is stating that we ‘re-opened’ the account
after he paid it. This is false.
A trade item from ******** **** and a collection item from
MAC Financial is the proper way of reporting a delinquent debt which has been
sold.
We have not updated the delinquency date to 2023. If ******* is reporting this then it is an
issue on their end. The delinquency date
is in 2019. Not 2018.
We are in agreement that the delinquency date should be in
2019. As we told the consumer yesterday

Yesterday, Oct 11, 2023, in the mail, I received a letter from a company called Mac Financial Recovery saying that this is a notice of legal action for a credit card debt from 2009 with a ******** **** Credit Card.
I was shocked as I haven’t received any kind of communication statements, letters, or anything from this so called credit card in 14 years until Mac Financial Recovery sent me this letter.
Somehow, Mac Financial had my mailing address which is different from 14 years ago, and my mother’s phone number because they called her after I hung up the phone with them. They said that I was apparently paying the card for 8 years and I just stopped in 2009 which I wouldn’t do. I checked my credit score and reports on ****** *****, ****, and *******, and this card is not even listed on my reports, and all reports say my credit is in good standing. The balance they say is a lot larger than it was back in 2009 because it was acruing interest and now they are saying I owe then $9739.43.
If the card was building interest, wouldn’t I be getting statements sent to the address on file??
I’m also on Long Term Disability and am terrified they will garnish my disability and I won’t be able to live if that happens.
Panicked, I looked up the Statute of Limitations, and for NS, it says that after 6 years I’m protected.
I don’t really know what else to do… I don’t recognize said credit card, and why would I get slapped with a notice for legal action when I haven’t been contacted for 14 years, and why have I not received any statements to the address that I would have had back when I got said card in 2001?
I would like to have this company to stop contacting me as I don’t have any record of said credit card debt or the card on any of my credit reports.

This collection agency is continuing to call and send text messages even though this debt is not mine. I have asked them to stop contacting me or any other member of my family but it continues. I have informed them that I don't have contact information for the person they are looking for. I had a credit card that went delinquent November 2018, debt purchased by Mac Financial and reported to ******* in 2020. They call/text 4-6 times a week, they sent me a letter in May stating they were going to take me to court, and I just received another letter July24, 2023 stating they’ve contacted my employer/verified employment and are threatening to garnish my wages. This collection agency has contacted my parents, and myself numereous times and advised that i am not the person they are looking for.
I called again today and spoke Rafael L. and explained to him to stop ********* me as i am not the ******* * ***** and I do not have debt with mentioned letter. He called me a liar and made many acquisitions that were not in any sort of professional manner.
