Call customer 2 months ago concerning money being drafted from my account more than agreed upon. Called customer service and requested a print out be mailed related to all payments. They stated no they could not and to check the portal. Explained to them portal was not correct and that it was still showing money owed for a monthly payment that was already processed. When stated that my lease states that I can request a physical copy they stated no they could not do that and told me to go back to the portal. Expressed again that them not providing a statement was a breach in my contract which clearly stated that I was entailed to have a print out. They then told me to send my bank statement so they could compare. I told them I wanted to make sure it was correct and they still denied to send me the print out.Business Response

They are committing fraud by saying I’m verbally authorizing them to take money out my account and I never gave them authorization. If I took money out of a store and said they gave me authorization and they didn’t what would happen? It’s a crime clearly they are committing by saying I gave them verbal authorization and I didn’t. That’s a crimeBusiness Response

I purchased furniture and financed it through Acima for 12 months for a total of $729. However when I called after 6 months of payments to see what my payoff is, I’m being told it wasn’t financed, so there is no interest and I owe $800 to get out of this deal, when I’ve already paid close to $1k, which is more than the payoff amount after 90 days. I’ve done a little digging and I see that the company has been sued a couple of times including by the Atty General in NY for deceptive practices. I signed up to finance something not to lease it and definitely not to lease it for $1,100 more than it’s worth. Even the 90 day buyout option is fraudulent because it was said that it’s 90 days interest free but the pay off amount I was given at 90 days was $200 more than the purchase price. I believe I’ve been scammed.Business Response

Acima Leasing (hereinafter “we,” “us,” “our”) received the complaint filed by Ms. ***** ********* through the Better Business Bureau (“BBB”) on May 26, 2025, regarding her lease amounts. We investigated her complaint and provide the following response.
Ms. ********* alleges she "purchased" furniture and signed up for "financing" with Acima. This is not true. Ms. ********* did not "purchase" the referenced furniture, rather, on November 15, 2024, Acima Leasing purchased furniture selected by Ms. ********* for the purpose of entering into a lease-to-own transaction with her. Ms. ********* then electronically entered into a rental-purchase agreement (the “Agreement”) with Acima Leasing on her own digital device. We confirm we conducted our due diligence in disclosing the nature of our services prior to allowing Ms. ********* to enter the Agreement as well as during the course of the lease.
Ms. ********* alleges the agreement was to be 90 days interest free. For clarification, Acima Leasing does not charge interest and thus does not contemplate "interest" or "interest free" in the Agreement. The facepage of the Agreement, in bold type font, states the 90 day Early Purchase Option is not same as cash. Furthermore, paragraph 3 of the Agreement discloses the 90-Day Early Purchase amount.
In conclusion, we can confirm we conducted our due diligence in disclosing the nature of our services prior to allowing Ms. ********* to enter the Agreement as well as during the course of the lease. We can further confirm we conducted our due diligence in disclosing the associated costs in the Agreement.
As of today’s writing, Ms ********* has not executed an early purchase option. Alternatively, if Ms. ********* does not wish to execute a purchase option outlined in the Agreement, she may terminate the Agreement at any time and without penalty by returning the Property to Acima Leasing in accordance with our directions, pursuant to paragraph 9 of the Agreement titled, “Termination.”
We hope this explanation clarifies the purchase terms of Ms. *********’s Agreement and her responsibilities thereunder. If Ms. ********* has any questions or wishes to explore purchase, or termination options that are available to her, we encourage her to contact our customer service department at (**** ********.Initial Complaint

My son is an independent contractor. He bought a door for $360 and signed with Acima. I let him pay me and Acima took the money out of my account. Now they sat he's already paid $610.67 and he owes $721.20. This is obviously a scam. I want all money over $360 returned. They sent him the following email

This place has predatory practices and does not inform you of the complete pricing structure at the time of signature. This place took advantage of a family with special needs children who desperately needed help with car repairs. When we signed this lease, there was no mention of this bill being $912! We would have brought our car home, pulled our kids out of school, and canceled all their medical appointments until we could figure something else out. We saw $556 as our bottom line, and that was it. Then, I got something about verbal changes of terms I agreed to. No one here has ever spoken with an Acima representative during this entire process, so how could anyone agree to anything verbally? PREDATORY, and I will spread the word as much as I can! No, we would not have agreed to $912 on a $408 bill! It's a car repair, not the car. I'd expect insane interest payments with the car. As a matter of fact, we were down to our last $400, and we would have used that to pay the car repair bill instead of taking a loan with that much inflated interest if needed. Unfortunately, we have to use loan apps occasionally and have never had a problem with them. Klarna, Zip, and these other places have far more transparent loan and billing practices.Business Response

Acima 2021
Is a Rent to lease company, but i was never told this was the case. I did not know that was thr case. I thought it was a line of credit. The company is now filing charges against me for attempt to defraud a financial institute. I have not received any settlement offers or even collection notices until today. I still have not received documentation, only a phone call. On this phone call I was told there was no opportunity to settle the debt, I could only fight the allegations s to defraud them in court. When I asked what the alleged breach of contract and amount was, I was told a figure 300% more than the original line of credit. Or what I thought was a line of credit....now a RTO. I know they are being sued by the CFPB, and now I am just one of the customers that was deceived by this company. Without the opportunity to arrange a settlement.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:The company you've sold my account to does not disclose who they are, now do they give an option for communication. Only threats. Even when I asked how the matter could be resolved, I was told it was beyond that point, yet continue to receive calls telling me they are proceeding with "allegations" against me. In addition, they represented themselves as Acima. Otherwise, I would have pursued this complaint against them. You may not own my account, but you are the originator and did not disclose that this is a Rent to own agreement, then increased the interest to 300%. I doubt the collection company you sold my collection to was the creator of these terms. You should also know the company you use to pursue these debts assumes these harassing practices. They attempt to scare clients and when I asked for a solution and was denied, it also denies your opportunity to recoup any losses, which is the purpose for the collections practice.
I've lived at the same address since this purchase was made and have not received any correspondence about my account, or options before it was sold or escalated to threats of filing allegations against me on public record. My phone number hasn't changed either, yet they are calling my family members and discussing private account info with them as well. Both were told it was "ACIMA" calling to "locate" me. I still haven't received one price of correspondence from acima or collections attorneys USA.
I FULLY intend to file a complaint against them as their practices are extremely invasive and harassing.
Sincerely,
********* *****Initial Complaint

As of 5/21/2025 this morning, I was contacted by a tire shop business that an account was opened under my name. It looked suspicious to them and wanted to verify if it indeed was me. As the person had made the application on line for acima leasing. The person in question is using my identity to make a purchase over 1000 dollars with the business. I've contacted acima to report it and was given an email address to report the fraude. The address cannot be reached, only this is the site I'm sent to. They told me this how I can have my account completely closed so no further activity can be made to my account.Business Response
